This can be extended to infinity, with many styles, shapes and forms. What about Disney looking like avatars https://i.ibb.co/zbk8DnN/3c31a768-d244-47d9-b5ba-0f902e097f8...

I love emojis too. Check out my other project, https://emojifavicon.dev/, to use emojis as favicons

thispersondoesnotexist.com is great, but doesn't provide metadata, and one of the primary goals was to be able to have consistent names with images, so boys don't get girls names. Also multiple sizes and fixed ids where needed.

Sure, here is gist for generating the data and the images: https://gist.github.com/tzador/ec9c14dd20f0ba1be243727b4f9ae... Some manual filtering was required of the generated images, since some where looking like mutants.
timz··on Install ChatGPT as PWA “Native” App
PWA wrapper around https://chat.openai.com/ to run it as "native" app. (if the install button doesn't work, use the browser toolbar to install it)
timz··on Show HN: Englishell – Plain english shell command executor, powered by ChatGPT
possibly, which other tools you have in mind?

This one is pretty simple and works in linux/mac and similar terminals. Instead of writing the shell command, you provide english instructions of what you want to achieve, ChatGPT translates it to shell syntax, and executes it after you confirm by hitting enter.

timz··on Show HN: Create books on any topic with ChatGPT
Currenlty I run out of OpenAI API credits, will try to restore the functionality, or let you run it with your own api key.

Postgres storage must be added to vercel, it will define POSTGRES_PRISMA_URL env variable, which must be added to local .env file, to run locally.

You also need to define OPENAI_API_KEY env variable.

Will add instructions in the github README.

Currently we are restricted by knowledge cutoff of chatgpt.

If I understood correctly, you want a more advanced system, which would go search the internets for a given topic, collect a set of webpages around it, and come up with an organised presentation of information, in form of an article or a book.

It could also possibly suggest a set of topics given the users interests.

Sounds like an interesting and much more advanced project.

That definitely should go to "Humour & Fun" category ) Seems like chatgpt is not factchecking the input, assumes it is true.
timz··on Show HN: Serve your GitHub Gists as static websites
GitHub Gists are great, but if you have some HTML + CSS + JS in them, it would be nice to be able to preview those as working micro-websites.

gistxy.com allows you to do just that (GIst STatic proXY).

If you have a Gist URL like:

https://gist.github.com/tzador/80c83ed5f5a0bdf8c878c5478d7d8...

just replace the .github. part with .gistxy. to get GistXY URL:

https://gist.gistxy.com/tzador/80c83ed5f5a0bdf8c878c5478d7d8...

and you will get the contents of the Gist served with correct mime-types and a working micro-website.

It also renders the markdown files to HTML, so you can focus on reading or sharing just one markdown file.

For security reasons, each Gist is served on dedicated subdomain.

Not sure how useful this is, but it was quite fun project.

Written in https://kit.svelte.dev and deployed on https://vercel.com .

Due to rate-limits, it scrapes the gist data from the Gist website, instead of using the GitHub API.

timz··on Ask HN: How would you feel if HN had “subreddits”/categories?
Since it is weekend, I was looking for a side-project, and came up with almost this. HackerNews clone but with dedicated 'domains', aka subreddits, to discuss specific areas of interest. For example, react community could have their own domain, ai their own, and so for python and rust. A place where you can ask questions, show off your projects, share interesting links you found and possibly post job announcements. And of course discuss in the style of hacker news with tree based comments. What do you think, is it worth the time? Basically a hybrid of reddit and hackernews.
timz··on Show HN: Yo.link – Subdomain based URL shortener
Thanks for the notice, added login with email option.
timz··on Show HN: Thousands of shadertoy.com creations on one scrollable grid
Enjoy the creations from shadertoy.com on one auto-scrollable page. Various sorting orders including random. Lean back and see what creators did over they years with WebGL shaders.
timz··on Show HN: Use Emojis for Favicons
Thank you for your comments, really appreciate it.

Yes, the search button is not needed, since we live show the results which are searched in memory. Removed.

Wanted to keep the speedy results as you type, so instead of debouncing for the preview now the native emojis rendered as chars are shown, not images.

If there is much traffic, there must be ways to optimise image serving, unless you have other concerns.

Let me know please if you see other ways to improve this small project.
