Opting out of facebook or cell phones does not mean you don't want to be part of society.
Ads basically convert 3% of those exposed at the expense of annoying the other 97%, at the very least it's wildly inefficient.
I doubt people will care much about your age and or just don't mention it.
Side note - "Design" is becoming more and more obsolete as the use of design frameworks becomes more ubiquitous. I started out doing design from scratch but now I just search for the best framework to use and cut my development time into a fraction.

All you can do is put something out there that you believe has potential and gauge how profitable it is and consider the growth potential in the future.
Learn how to understand what has value. Build things for yourself that you find valuable and sell those things.
I've never done market research and I sure as hell don't ask my customers for feedback. I just build things I want and it turns out I'm almost never alone, the question then becomes a matter of just how much other people want it. If you've had no levels of success yet then change your approach. Forget networking or pitching or X factor that shit is almost irrelevant. Find a way to make a profit albeit however small it may be and build from there.
Don't start with an idea that requires critical mass or a community just start with a simple product that you can sell.
Furthermore I would say most of big pharma is evil. Not on a personal level but as a whole.
There's a million reasons why I want to start a web company. And I don't think I'm lying to myself about any of them. If it was all about money I would be working on perfecting my pitch and just focus on getting an investment.
