timmattison··on Stripe Payment Links
I tried this out today and a few things went wrong for me.

First, the link that I was given to send to the other party was a tinyurl.com link. This concerns me because I don't think that Stripe or PayNowLink has control of tinyurl.com. If tinyurl.com is exploited then someone can reroute people to a totally different site.

Second, Privacy.com debit cards didn't work for me. I've reached out to support to see if that's something they can fix. Is that a known issue?

timmattison··on Mars Helicopter Lands Safely After Serious In-Flight Anomaly
I think it can be simpler than that. If a piece of code is going to do a velocity calculation from motion estimation between two frames it should expect to get new data every 1 / FPS seconds. A local clock could help validate that. If data comes too fast or too slow within some tolerance then the system could signal there is an issue. If the images have time stamps it could check those too.

Now you’d need to hope the inertial guidance is good enough at those altitudes. The article says it doesn’t use image based calculations for landing due to the possibility of kicking up dust.

timmattison··on Show HN: Segmentel – Let AI segment videos for you
I tried it with a video that has auto generated subtitles but it still didn’t work. Is that expected?
timmattison··on Grand jury subpoena for Signal user data, Central District of California
I’d guess that’s just how it’s stored and they’re not going to go through any additional effort to make it look nice for a request like this.
timmattison··on JSON parser written in 6502 assembly language
The opening line in the README.md is worth clicking through for.
timmattison··on Rust is a hard way to make a web API
Does the Either type from the vavr library for Java cover this? https://www.baeldung.com/vavr-either
timmattison··on Notion Timeline View
I think it is all relative. Notion feels so much faster than Quip. Quip takes forever to start, stop, search, etc. it is nearly unusable. Search in Notion is so much better too.

Maybe I should avoid anything faster than Notion so I don’t get spoiled.

timmattison··on AWS IAM is having issues again
Which service? I'd also like to hear more about your multi-region journey (I work at AWS on the IoT services). Any way we can connect directly? You can message me on Twitter (@timmattison) if that works.
timmattison··on PlantUML in a nutshell
Thanks, I looked at it a while go and had some trouble getting started. I'll try it again.
timmattison··on PlantUML in a nutshell
Yeah, I do all of these things by hand today as well. It is very time consuming especially when I want to make changes. I’d be willing to accept more constraints if that’s what I have to do but my current attempts with PlantUML can’t get close to the look I’d like even for simple diagrams unfortunately.
timmattison··on PlantUML in a nutshell
I want to make diagrams like the ones on this page - https://www.google.com/amp/s/creately.com/blog/diagrams/aws-... - but I want to have a way to define them in a text format and version control and modify them easily.

I’ve tried doing this with PlantUML but never got it right. Is there a tool like PlantUML that is specifically for architecture diagrams like the ones above (custom icons, etc)?
