It’s also a rather traditional format outside of YouTube. I didn’t fault him for it, it’s nice to see that kind of presentation sometimes instead of some presenter talking non stop for ten minutes.
Everyone has their own interests in mind and so everyone has to be balanced against each other. Come on people we figured this out hundreds of years ago.
I always had the impression that the lack of meaning in The Culture was fairly overtly portrayed with many side stories and the fact that the main story line always had to follow some special operation outside The Culture in order to be interesting.
We somehow have more programming jobs now than ever. Those kids learning programming with LLMs may not end up writing code by hand but they will still be building stuff with computers.
Feature. Once the multimodal rollout is complete Plus will have image gen, image recognition, voice recognition and voice gen all integrated with the chat capabilities so you can combine those features in novel ways like the link Brockman retweeted showing ChatGPT acting as a language tutor and conversation partner.
> the core of journalism’s public service, namely its capacity and obligation to artfully, eloquently, and intentionally use language to create and debate the ground truths that anchor shared social realities
Excuse me but wtf is this because it sure as hell isn’t what journalism means to everyone who isn’t a journalist.
We don’t have to go there to discover life. We can infer it from atmospheric composition. As we continue to build larger space telescopes we’ll be able to gather more information about exoplanets.
The alternative is to oppose the political class that has been manipulating popular opinion for a hundred years now in order to maintain their positions of power. Our current form of representation, although it’s a joke to call it that now, has been obsolete for decades. Examine the principals upon which it’s based, they make no sense with modern communication technology.
Woah woah woah buddy you’ve got that completely backwards. Journalists started that whole learn to code bullshit and then got justly lampooned about it when there were a bunch of media lay offs afterwards. It was a huge meme a while back so I’m not sure how you missed it.
If you can sell your knowledge to an existing audience and then add a special category with a higher price for companies training LLMs why would you take the financial hit of selling to a single customer where they can now make demands of you as your only source of revenue?
The crazy thing that a lot of people don’t realize is that all of that data generalizes to anything new you can throw at it. As long as there’s enough space in the prompt to provide documentation it can do it on the fly but you could also fine tune the model on the new info.
It’s not a simple function of time and population. Fertility rate varies by country and more specifically by economic achievement. Population isn’t evenly distributed in either of those categories. We saw rapid gains due to China and then India modernizing. Now they are declining and peaked and its Africa’s turn but Africa is a continent made up of many countries in various states of development or regression which makes it very difficult to predict. If we take the happy path and all goes well with each country continuing to improve then they will peak quickly having the advantages of modern technology and three advanced economies investing in them.
I hope the solar system is someday home to a trillion people. We need more minds working on the problems the universe presents to us. If humans won’t step up to that challenge then maybe our silicon offspring will.
> being predictably moralizing and being smart are somewhat opposed (Anthropic has directly researched this if I recall). The smarter the model, the less you’re going to be able to keep it to the HR talk track, because it will eventually start noticing the inconsistencies.
Language models sure can tell us a lot about human psychology. Once we figure out the interpretability angle we’ll be able to prove it too
No. VR is to the WWW what the WWW was to the internet. It will bring the rest of the world onto the net where previously only print, video, and audio were. AI will be the next UI medium. NLUI natural language user interface or SUI spoken user interface, somebody will come up with a better name.
Or teachers focus more on helping kids with the fundamental social and organizational skills necessary for learning and cooperating while AI handles the individualized lesson plans for each of the topics. The kids become much better adjusted and much more knowledgeable and go on to use AI in their working lives to create unimaginable amounts of wealth and productivity.
In other words: you know what beats one elite with an AI? Ten thousand well educated people each with their own AI.
Highly doubt X will be a CBDC or social credit system. PayPal isn’t, venmo isn’t. In a free market you have many competing products that are used by different people. No one is going to switch 100% of their banking to X. (Ok someone will but it’ll be rare and weird). People will have bank accounts, PayPal, credit cards, X, gift cards, venmo, bitcoin, eth, etc. etc.
