The chinese labs dont need such marketing stunts. Further more, in contrast to the trump admin, the CCP seems to be already involved in regulations.

throwawayqqq11··on Whistleblower warns Postal Service mail ballot system has catastrophic problems
So you would like to see a real source of the stated/recorded democracy subversion goal of the GOP? If they didnt state it, its fake news?

Until then, all the past events, from court packing, gerry-mandering to now mail-in ballots (etc pp) is just coincidence?

When trump says "we only need to win once" and then conducts blantant corruption and demolishes institutions/relationships, you think this is just one more isolated coincindence? You think he will leave the white house easily and face the charges, even though his ball room isnt done?

Another commenter noted, how many people seem to live in absolute disinformation bubbles, in your case, i would add "state of insane denial".

throwawayqqq11··on How accurate have Ed Zitron's AI skeptic predictions been?
He didnt mention EZs claims about lack of data center construction compared to projected growth and valuation. I wonder if that was substanciated, since it overlaps with the bubble portrait of the "coming" wall of due service contracts hitting in 2027.
throwawayqqq11··on California lawmakers unanimously pass Linux exemption from age-verification law
This is not wanted, its duct taping a bad idea even further and i half-wish MS/apple/co sue against it. This may cause lawmakers to bounce back in the wrong direction though.
throwawayqqq11··on U.S. sanctions against the A/I Collective
> did they help authorities to track Terrorists or did they cover up?

Nice framing. Binary "either you are with authorities or you are against them", no consideration that "terrorist" is up for courts to decide, not govs or ISPs and that complying-or-not with a legal-or-not order can have many reasons and outcomes. Would you call apple, refusing to decrypt a terror org too? Framing those subjects as terrorists is true darkage backwards reasoning. A/I calls it radical activism, the US gov calls it marxist terrorism. To me, its clear who is more credible.

throwawayqqq11··on U.S. sanctions against the A/I Collective
This is prob a russian operation to manipulate right wingers by presenting yet another fabricated left wing enemy. Attacks on transportation and electricity grids (and cars and graffiti) are not the same ball park as planed kidnappings and killings. You are just repeating propaganda.
throwawayqqq11··on Functional State Machines in Rust: Typestate and Newtype Patterns
Why should this be such a bad anti pattern? Sure, a function might not need to work on the entire data model, but with pass by reference, does it matter that much? I dont see big negatives by using struct args, possibly wrapped in some typestate.

On the other hand, doesnt seprating args and typestate defeat the purpose? Since they can now be constructed separately.

throwawayqqq11··on Starbase, LA
> In 2019, the loss was $862 million, but for 2020 there is a huge profit of $721 million.

> However: A closer look at the figures published last week shows that Tesla is still making losses with actual sales of electric cars - around $500,000 in 2020.

> In 2020, carbon certificates brought in $1.6 billion, without this revenue the numbers would still be below red.

https://www.electrichunter.com/ev-news/tesla-makes-money-co2...

With a "profit" margin that jumpy and a history of unrentability, i think it's fair to say that Tesla only exists today because of subsidies. It's not just tax benefits, as you frame it, but in this case EU-CO2 certificates, a direct "revenue" stream.

throwawayqqq11··on The treasury bond mess: is this the demise of the US as a safe haven?
Yep. Biden handled this gracefully. And i can confirm internarional envy.

The part gggGP doesnt seem to grasp is, the fiscal hawks seeking to cut taxes and regulations etc. are strong and old lobbies around both parties and thats why you can see a trend. Some elected officials are just less susceptible than others and trump is a giant jackpot for the parasites, but so was reagan back in the days.

throwawayqqq11··on The treasury bond mess: is this the demise of the US as a safe haven?
* delusional.

One of the few english words, i have no native equivalent in practical use. Nobody sees themself as the vilain. We all have internal narratives, painting us as the heros of the story.

I feel like there is an unsolved problem in human organizations, that corrupts them over time from within, no matter if public or private institution. Trump is just a unique flashy clown that you may get with failing checks and balanced but im afraid, no matter the damage done, the delusional cogs with bloated selfesteem behind him are infinite as a selected breed, as a product/outcome of the institutions they emerged from.

throwawayqqq11··on The treasury bond mess: is this the demise of the US as a safe haven?
Where does all the wealth come from? I remeber, as a small boy, i learned Bill Gates was the richest man on earth with 8bn$. Today, Alon is ~120x that much. Where did all this came from?

"Money printer" is usually used negatively by right wingers to argue against debt driven social spending. The point missing in economics and politics is, that this money printer never stopped and it doesnt work for the many but for privileged elites. The superficial right wing response is just a reminder, whos in charge of their world view and fiscal policy.

The distortion of the public debate is reflected in your lopsided stance too, that you think you need DOGE to tackle the problem by cutting spending. There is another way.

Think about it this way, you have a money source, thus you should have a money sink, otherwise it migho get out of hand [1]. What could such a sink be? (i know you know it too.)

EDIT: I want to hint at modern monetary theory, very "controversial".

throwawayqqq11··on The Work Number: credit score but for your employment history – by Equifax
There are pros for employers, they can hire based on whether a candidate has been punished by other employers before and keep punishing them based on an objective social credit system. And there are cons.

Then extend the list. We need isolated build envs AND deterministic builds, like nix does.

Id like to add project provided runtime capabilities/permissions (eg. apparmor profiles) to the list to.

Maybe the day will come, where projects not providing these things will be considered broken, like nix does.

The "for fun" part is really important here. Addictive behavior comes from a hijacked dopamine system, into which you slowly get lured in. This makes it applicable to social media, drugs and if you squint, even to broad obsessions.

This doesnt help the gambling distinction though. What activities can take over your neurological reward mechanism? Pretty much everything, like neurotically washing your hands. So you have to factor in societal scale and amount of (potential) harm and this is where the vague debate begins. A key point is a dealer/platform, profiting from your behavior, to exclude neurotics.

A striking observation i made was, that gambling machines have deliberate delays between action (eg pull the lever) and reaction/reward for the brain to create tension and to break it with a dopamine spike. This deliberate design is how the machine exploits your brain and makes you an addict. A similar system is the endless social media feed (or even worse brainrot short videos). You scroll, you see new stuff, you identify content maybe emotionally. Its the same fast stimulus-reward cycle. Meassured in 1-2 seconds, same as gambling machines.
