It's even worse for women, so you could argue that it's discriminatory to make it mandatory.
There is a dozen reasons to dislike it: looks, background, posture, focus, bandwidth, processing power...
You don't have to know the length though, just the length of potential collisions(so between 1 and whatever max length is the hash)
I usually block it in /etc/hosts.
Unblock it when I need to ask a question in r/cscareerquestions, in my country's subreddit or to look at a discussion I found while searching on google.
Then I get sucked into it, browse the horrors of the front page for a while, get angry, and block it again.
It's poison.
The UI is not even the worse part(besides when you're trying to write a post), it's the content that's awful.
On LSD I would often spend hours writing a ton of stuff and have in-depth thoughts about my life and everything that went wrong with it, also I would laugh a ton, and everything was 10x as pleasurable, it's really like a mini nice vacation/spiritual retreat for me, and of course that didn't happen if I slept on it, so basically no benefits if I was not actually tripping and conscious that I was tripping.
I think it's proven empirically.
"In fact, since non-psychedelic medications exist for treating depression,"
Yes except usually antidepressants may only work after at least 4 weeks, and if you stop them you're usually back to depression(if they even work...), and they're also just trying to make serotonin have stabler levels while psychedelics can make you change your whole point of view on life or help fix past trauma.
"don't seem to be as effective for some people." some people? I'd say most people, even after trying multiple antidepressants you're still not that likely to stop being depressed, there is a huge study reproducibility problem, probably caused by the billions of dollars that SSRIs generates.
So really not comparable to drugs that can potentially create paradigm shifts in your brain after one use.
I don't think we'll fix depression with regular drugs.
It'll either be psychedelics assisted psychotherapy, transcranial magnetic stimulation(80% effectiveness in a recent Stanford study), or brain implants.
And especially not with psychedelic analogs, we're just likely to destroy the lives of hundreds of people during clinical trials, messing with psychedelics analogs sounds like a terribly stupid/insane plan.
it shouldn't be about what's easy, or about the image of a drug.
You don't try using a more dangerous drug because it have a better public image, that's insanity, or cupidity, but not science
also the trip is a big part of what makes them interesting for mental health it's not just about hormone releases or brain chemistry changes, it's also about life changing experiences and realizations that wouldn't happen if you weren't tripping balls for a few hours
so all this really seems like pointless extremely dangerous and opportunistic research just to get funding, not real science
just like with weed it's going to take a good while
also we didn't try to push spice/K2(thc analogs) for PTSD, anxiety or insomnia AFAIK, because we're well aware that using analogs is usually really dangerous
and MAPS.org seems to do pretty well, with enough groundbreaking studies I'm sure legalization will come, in time
We already know about lsd, psylocibin, mdma, ketamine, most of their (side)effects and how to use them without dying or going mad. And they're already pretty damn effective for a lot of issues if used well.
Why take the risks of trying to make analogs that we know nothing about?
to invent another nbome? or a psychedelic equivalent of fentanyl?
I really don't get it. It's playing with fire.
(and no I don't think it can be compared to other meds research, meds don't usually have the potential ability to completely change the fabric of your after one use)
but its quality is getting worse because they have no real economic incentive to get better as long as lots of people don't start using other engines
average people don't care or even notice whether their search results about kim kardashian and football are seo-optimized garbage, convincing semi-automatic gpt-3 based content or actually quality content
people like us whose entire jobs couldn't be done decently (or at all)without really efficient search engines tend to notice declines in quality a lot faster
so no, not an echo chamber, at least not at all in regard to this kind of topics
If I had a kid and enough disposable income I'd do it without even thinking about it to be honest
Also posting good (stolen) content automatically to farm karma to then be able to spam everywhere for a few hours is a very common tactic
If I had to run a free social media like reddit I would do the same, you have no idea how hard it is to handle that imo
It's a stance.
And tbh I don't see much difference with Firefox when using Chrome (besides all the data that I can see leaving my computer to go to google servers even when I'm not on any website)
yeah the fun stopped when my account was stolen, but I don't regret it, it's like saying if you removed tricks from skateboarding no one would ever get hurt...
if you manage to find a better way to fund this kind of billion dollar games you're going to be a rich man soon
can you do it soon?with no budget? please
maybe try adding fake players so people don't leave right away ;) otherwise people will just play wordle
the first few months with my puppy were HARD, really HARD but since he got a bit older he's the best part of my life
this isn't playstation level success but it's a joke to say it's a dead end
That's what remote work is for
smart employers would kill to get someone like you
I personally know a guy who got convicted at an early age for similar stuff, he never had any trouble finding work, even worked for some governments
any decent security startup would do anything to get you
bro I'm actually jealous
also: freelancing of course, rarely seen background checks for freelancers
I think that's wrong, and just a way for the company to save as much money as possible. A fair salary should be a % of the $ value you create minus local taxes and expenses needed for your position(equipment, software, training...).
Otherwise this isn't fair, this is just the bare minimum to retain employees in my opinion.
For example personally I don't plan in staying long in my current city/country. But if I accepted local salaries I would never be able to save enough to move comfortably.
Whereas someone with a salary calculated using your formula, but in a more expensive city, could move wherever he want easily, his savings would take him much further.
So I only accept to work remotely for companies in richer locations who are able to pay more.
Also local purchasing power usually doesn't apply to objects(electronics, cars...)
VR was tried again a few years ago, it got quite successful
then I ask myself, is there anything interesting I can build involving this concept? or any useful activity I can do?
and I try to build it or do it, while using multiple sources of knowledge, but I never try to just remember stuff, the brain naturally remember the pieces of the knowledge that were actually needed the most while practicing. you don't know what's important to remember until you practiced, so in the end if you try to just retain knowledge you remember very badly a lot of things, but if you practice really early you remember very well what was actually important
I was suspended from reddit too, but my other accounts were never suspended, and to be fair I say a lot of stupid things on all my accounts
Like train a classifier(with good jokes and bad jokes) on r/jokes according to the scores, to filter/sort automatically what GPT generates?
No it's not about react or ror.
It's about solving actual real life problems. 99% people don't do CS to do academical research, but to work on life change products(and that's more likely to come from user research and fast prototyping, than from theoretically perfect fundamental research).
Some people build millions dollars software products, solving real life problems, without having a clue what big-O, quadratic functions, or even a lot of actual theoretical programming concepts are. And I personally know a bunch of those people. Some people know almost everything there is know about CS theory and never build anything useful to anyone.
Physics have literally nothing to do with CS or SWE. I think this is just pointless elitism.
