throwawaygulf··on We're Building a Calendar for Work
Anything beyond basic calendaring, and the awesome powerful rules engine it has.

For example, accept all meetings tentatively if they're scheduled between 9-4, and they don't overlap with another meeting.

You can't even auto-accept meetings in Google Calendar OOTB.

throwawaygulf··on We Spoke to a Guy Who Got His Dick Locked in a Cage by a Hacker
Not sure why my original response was flagged:

Bay Area cucks. It's a niche market, but those are the ones who would think such a device was a good idea.

throwawaygulf··on Why GNU/Linux Viruses are fairly uncommon (2005)
You can't statically link a vulnerable process running with elevated privileges.
throwawaygulf··on We're Building a Calendar for Work
The amount of left coast tech types who've never used Outlook is astounding.

Entire boutique solutions arise around features and ideas that were implemented over a decade ago by Microsoft.

So many Golang developers I know have never been exposed to Active Directory, Exchange, etc. It's scary.

throwawaygulf··on Why GNU/Linux Viruses are fairly uncommon (2005)
This is some great Stallman copypasta! A variation of https://stallman-copypasta.github.io/
throwawaygulf··on Why GNU/Linux Viruses are fairly uncommon (2005)
As the saying goes, viruses on Linux are hard to get right because you need to make assumptions about API/ABIs, libraries, required dependencies, etc. which is never assured across-the-board.

Oh wait... Good desktop software needs all that too...

throwawaygulf··on How Homogeneous Is Japan?
"Facts about races make people racist."

Above is a perfect example of "soft bigotry of low expectations" from racist leftists.

Leftist are obsessed with race because they're projecting racists. Change my mind.

throwawaygulf··on Facebook Disabled My Account After I Criticized Them
The narrative on this changed so fast my neck almost snapped in half from the whiplash.

"They're a private company, they can decide what they do, or do not, want to host."

It's all fun until you're on the receiving end of that.

throwawaygulf··on Google threatens to withdraw search engine from Australia
I always wondered what happens if Google gives places like Australia the big middle finger, completely withdraws all their infrastructure, lays off all the Australian workforce, completely and entirely closes shop... But still serves Google Australia from say, Singapore.

What recourse does the Australian government have?

throwawaygulf··on Google is investigating the actions of another top AI ethicist
>A large part of them believe that a researcher has to be an activist, i.e. research=activism.

A large part of them believe in other delusions such as "silence is violence", coming to work on time is "Whiteness", and "objective, rational" thinking is normalized racism.

In their deranged minds, the ends justify their means, so they can be the antithesis of their being because their crusade is holy, and just.

That's the complete opposite of being a researcher.

throwawaygulf··on Google is investigating the actions of another top AI ethicist
In reality, all activist ethicists are unethical by nature.
throwawaygulf··on Google is investigating the actions of another top AI ethicist
You excise cancer.
throwawaygulf··on Google is investigating the actions of another top AI ethicist
Excision.
throwawaygulf··on Capitol Attack Was Months in the Making on Facebook
Stoo spreading fake news.

>The first shooting in the protests was by someone driving into a crowd who claimed to have a brother who worked in the east precinct.

Wrong. The first shooting came after an argument between leftists escalated. No vehicle involved.

>The second shooting does not have a clear connection to the protest occupants. The Police chose not to help the shooting victim (and the reason for the shooting is unknown).

Wrong again, it is directly linked because it happened when the protest occupants were marching back from a protest around city hall. Protestors blocked the police and firefighters from entering the area, and once the police made headway, the victim was already moved.

>The third shooting (which occurred outside of the zone) appears to be racially motivated, and according to the victim was allegedly at the hands of a white supremacist. It's unclear if this is related to the second shooting.

Wrong, it was a Black leftist/anarchist that shot himself.

>The sixth and seventh shootings were of two teens who had reportedly driven an SUV through the crowds overnight, including through the park.

Driving a vehicle that was a different make and model, but similar color, and they were killed for it. Two Black teens died because CHOP security extra-judicially shot and killed them because they were misidentified.

Two teens, killed in a no-cop-zone, by "community security", during a protest that was started due to the extra-judicial killings of Blacks... May have been the most ironic moment of 2020.

So, on my counting there were seven shootings:

None of them were racially motivated.

All have direct links to the protest.

throwawaygulf··on Creating Comfy FreeBSD Jails Using Standard Tools
Sad that there's no equivalent to this in Linux.
throwawaygulf··on NRA files for bankruptcy, says it will reincorporate in Texas
>A transparent effort

Transparency is a good thing.

>move to a state that doesn't care what goes on there

Moving to a state that cares about civil liberties and freedoms. FTFY.

>How is a group allowed to file for bankruptcy when they're not bankrupt? They have assets and expenses that are adequate.

How can someone attempt to make points on an issue but not understand the basic definition of "bankruptcy"?

Your bias is showing. Big time.

throwawaygulf··on Fast Commits for Ext4
It's defaulting to btrfs, which is a poor decision. If Fedora is making such poor decisions on basic things like default filesystems, that gives me more than enough influence to chose one way or another.

They were all aboard with Stratis, but here we are, btrfs moving back in.

throwawaygulf··on Bcachefs Under Review with All Known Blockers Resolved
Hoping for the best. btrfs is just a non-player for me, and it would be nice to have something that can actually compete with ZFS in the kernel.
throwawaygulf··on Gab is now the 647th most popular website in the US, explosive 90 day growth
Gab, Ruqqus, etc. have shot up. Parler also rose astronomically, but they have to find a new host now. Off to a great start, honestly.
throwawaygulf··on Fast Commits for Ext4
>Fedora has moved to Btrfs

(Sigh)... Another reason to move away from Fedora.

throwawaygulf··on Gitlab partners with IBM Cloud to improve collaboration for DevOps
Who would honestly use IBM Cloud in 2021, especially after they curb stomped RedHat?
throwawaygulf··on Lost Passwords Lock Millionaires Out of Their Bitcoin Fortunes
Imagine if forgetting your password locked you out of your 401k forever.

I definitely would not feel comfortable with that.

throwawaygulf··on Gab is now the 647th most popular website in the US, explosive 90 day growth
Pretty much. America First Streaming is using RedWhiteBlue Hosting, FreedomDNS, etc. and BLM Streaming is using Antifa Hosting, DefundPoliceDNS, etc.

And for the rest of us who are caught in the middle, those above options are all that we have.

Imagine if restaurants only had Kosher and Halal food, but no longer make "regular" food because "regular" people will reluctantly eat Kosher or Halal, but Kosher and Halal customers will not entertain "regular" food.

So the entire stack all the way down becomes bifurcated due to political beliefs.

https://nassimtaleb.org/2016/08/intolerant-wins-dictatorship...

throwawaygulf··on Gab is now the 647th most popular website in the US, explosive 90 day growth
I wonder how far the bifurcation of the Internet will go. Gab, Parler, Voat, etc. are all just the beginning in my mind.
throwawaygulf··on Salesforce says it has 'taken action' to prevent further U.S. political violence
Aligning yourself with Communists is definitely not in the realm of "moral or compassionate".

People wearing Che Guevara t-shirts are declaring themselves to be Communists.

People wearing hammer and sickle t-shirts are declaring themselves to be Communists.

People supporting Communists are Communists.

Communism killed many more people than Nazism did.

throwawaygulf··on Salesforce says it has 'taken action' to prevent further U.S. political violence
>safety of the marginalized before the comfort of the privileged.

Democrats have an even worse track record with that if you check the statistics for Democrat ran cities.

throwawaygulf··on Software That Sucks Less
This is hilarious copypasta; it's truly a perfect example of Poe's Law!
throwawaygulf··on How Silicon Valley destroyed Parler
>You are comparing literal Nazis

Literal Nazis?! Wow! Didn't know there were that many National Socialist German Workers' Party members in the US in 2021!

Those freedom fighters mostly peacefully protested at the Capitol to fight against tyranny and literal communism! /s

throwawaygulf··on How Silicon Valley destroyed Parler
>Buses are run by governments.

Not the one Rosa Parks was on.

>And Rosa Parks wasn't advocating throwing molotov cocktails

Rosa Parks no, but other Black groups most definitely. Same with Parler, not everyone was advocating violence.

>It'd be great if GMC would refuse selling vehicles to insurrectionist militias, IMHO.

Yup, stop selling them to the Black insurrectionist militias (codeword for any Black political group), would have been great.

>Your analogies aren't doing any good here.

They're pretty great honestly, describes the general idea well.

throwawaygulf··on How Silicon Valley destroyed Parler
If Rosa Parks didn't like sitting in the back of the bus, she could have just started her own bus line!

If GMC wouldn't sell her a bus, she could just make her own!

Sure it takes expertise, time, expense, negotiation... but that's the price of true freedom!

Before anyone comes crying: I in no way support the assault on the Capitol, calls to violence (which should be illegal), alt-right ethno-state madness, Qanon delusions etc. Nazism is a cancer on society.
