throawayonthe··on Microsoft admits Windows 11 has a GDID tracker with no off switch
the GDID seems like a tertiary issue barely worth mention, like ok a hw identifier exists in web browsing logs that microsoft somehow has the entirety of??
throawayonthe··on An iroh powered smart fan
a c compiler turns c code into assembly which is then consumed by an assembler(?)

throawayonthe··on Is the iPhone birth control? Causal evidence from AT&T's 2007-2011 monopoly [pdf]
i'm confused what this is in reference to, but yes, levonorgestrel emergency contraceptives can't be called pregnancy termination by even the most extreme definition because it works by delaying ovulation, does not impact implantation and does nothing during/post ovulation/ and 'conception'
throawayonthe··on Building Gin: Simple over Easy
that's confusing, why would you [ write -> LLMify -> edit to deslopify ] rather than keep working with your own words
throawayonthe··on How information theory saved my word game
which really sucks, because it's a good structure for emphasis in some limited situations, but now human writers that use it correctly get accused of being LLMs
throawayonthe··on Have you restarted your computer this week?
yep, and this is the case for both major mobile operating systems

> The machine was made of edges and you cut yourself on them, and that is how you found out where they were

mayhaps this is because our computing paradigms are stuck in the 70's

throawayonthe··on Old Computer Challenge
they're pretty durable relative to most laptops on the market, and replacing components most likely to break like the screen is... neither great nor terrible? https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+13-Inch+Two+Thunder...

throawayonthe··on Professor denounces mass AI fraud on an exam at Brown
i mean, even if you are truly there for learning, doesn't it make sense in a low risk setting to try and boost your grade? it's different if you're cheating on your homework or other learning, but there isn't much learning left to do on the exam, that's for the grade

throawayonthe··on Doctors suspected man had brain cancer. He had worms
> NCC can be serious, causing seizures, significant neurological deficits, cognitive decline, stroke, and other problems. But it can also be asymptomatic. The severity depends on where in the brain the worms settle. Luckily for the man, the effects were relatively mild. Doctors prescribed him two anti-parasitic drugs, and he recovered.

and here is the actual case report: https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/32/7/26-0587_article

> We treated the patient successfully with albendazole (400 mg 2×/d) and praziquantel (1,200 mg 3×/d), alongside dexamethasone taper, without complications.
