threemux··on Ask HN: Why it is hard for US to move to metric system?
The better question to ask is what is the benefit? For everyday usage by regular people, it's not clear to me that metric is superior if you didn't grow up with one or the other, hence the lack of push for a change.

In fact, I've seen the argument made that feet, inches, miles, cups, teaspoon, Fahrenheit, etc are superior to meters, centimeters, km, mL, Celsius, etc for everyday use. As I've seen it presented, this argument contends that centimeters are too small, while meters are too large for many common things you want to measure, such as the height of a person. Likewise cups and teaspoons are actual objects that you could visualize and get a general sense of the amount without even knowing the actual measurement. Same kind of thing for Celsius: the most common usage of temperature measurement for the average person is air temperature. For the set of air temperatures commonly experienced on Earth, Fahrenheit provides more precision.

threemux··on Why didn't you buy a Tesla?
Mainly comes down to not wanting to pay luxury prices for a car that is anything but. Lots of build quality issues, spartan interior, and actual ergonomic design replaced with a giant tablet. Many people are so used to the giant tablet now they don't even know it can be better. Mazda is one of the few automakers that gets this right.
threemux··on Illegal host, electric shocks, slugs, leaks and no support – How Airbnb failed
As bad as this person's experience was, Airbnb fills a niche for me that I haven't seen anyone else compete in: larger (ideally detached) accommodations in non-vacation destinations. I have young children and having separate bedrooms is great when we're visiting family for example.

IIRC, TVFool was not kept up to date with the FCC repack station moves. I wouldn't recommend using it as its predictions are likely to be inaccurate. This is a better tool that is continuously updated:

threemux··on Rolling-PWN vulnerability affects all Honda vehicles
Yeah I suppose that's one way to do it. I go for the combo of having a garage and driving a manual, which is itself a theft prevention device in the US these days
threemux··on Rolling-PWN vulnerability affects all Honda vehicles
I have a 2013 Honda Civic Si (USA) and it does not have a keyless start system (you have to put the key into the ignition to start it). Also, like any manual car I've driven, you have to press the clutch in or it won't start. To unlock, a button on the keyfob must be pressed. As far as I can tell, this means my car is not affected but I'm not sure. If it's not, then the statement that it affects all Hondas after 2012 is incorrect.
