thismodernlife··on Ask HN: 1Password vs. LastPass vs. Bitwarden for teams ?
I would say for me it's the user interface and general user experience. I find 1Pass more intuitive to use, the dedicated Mac and iOS apps are lovely and I also love the blog and general vibe of the 1Password company. Personality goes a long way! :)

I know people who think the exact opposite though, so give it a go and see what you think!

To be honest, all of these are fine. The very fact that you're going to be rolling out a tool and educating your staff in secure password management is a huge win regardless of which option you choose.

That said, for a team size < 25 I would recommend 1Password. The product is fantastic - best in class - and they are regularly pushing improvements across all platforms.

For teams 50+ I would choose LastPass which has better 'enterprise' features, but despite having used it at work for 7 years I still really dislike it. This could be because I've been using 1Password in a personal/family capacity for about 12 years!

thismodernlife··on Moving my serverless project to Ruby on Rails
I have no strong opinion on serverless but I’ve used Rails for 13 years now (in massive $multi-million SaaS products as well as hobby projects) and it still makes me happy. I keep thinking about learning Node and React but I just can’t be bothered because Rails lets me get things done so quickly while also being a joy to write Ruby and Rspec.

Regarding hosting, I think this is actually a great time to host Rails apps either via Heroku, via the new Digital Ocean k8s app cluster or – and this is my new favourite tool – using Hatchbox.io to deploy apps to Digital Ocean or AWS. It’s a dream!

thismodernlife··on Ask HN: Hey Drew, why is Dropbox becoming so bad?
Agree with this, it's a wonderful editor. I can see the enterprise/business features creeping into this product though now. The end is nigh!
thismodernlife··on Ask HN: Hey Drew, why is Dropbox becoming so bad?
It's been immensely annoying since it became an 'app' rather than a folder extension on macOS, and since they targeted business/enterprise.

I've just moved to iCloud Drive now they offer shared folders, but then I only share stuff with family members so this is straightforward.

Shame as I used to love Dropbox.

thismodernlife··on Custom domains now available on Substack
+100 for Caddy as your web server or a reverse proxy in front of your stack. It’s incredible.
thismodernlife··on Ask HN: What RSS Reader do you use?
I use the marvellous ReadKit (https://readkitapp.com/) on the Mac – it has RSS and Instapaper support.

On iOS I use Reeder.

My feeds themselves are managed by Feedly but I rarely use that interface.

When UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson suffered badly from the virus back in April, support for him and his policies swelled.
