thisisnico··on Spy agency ducks questions about 'back doors' in tech products
I agree. I'm sure the level of this organization operates at utilizes teams of their own vulnerability researchers to provide themselves with the ability to create new and novel zero-day exploits that are not-disclosed to the big players. This is Internet warfare.
thisisnico··on The No-Code Generation is arriving
And some of the most advanced Excel spreadsheets make use of Visual Basic to automate processes. Even with no code solutions, The most advanced users will want to automate and integrate, using code.
thisisnico··on The No-Code Generation is arriving
After seeing the no-code movement over and over again, I do not believe that this time it is any different. From MS Access days, Adobe's Dreamweaver, and many other forms of no-code solutions, the environment that supports no-code requires a tremendous amount of code. Knowing how to code can help you optimize, automate, configure no-code solutions. The end result is always back to code.
thisisnico··on 25 Years In Speech Technology and I still don’t talk to my computer
Aside from the usability POV, GUI provided significantly more features to the user, such as visualization of information and data. Images, Audio, Video, Multi-Media, 3D/2D Video games. You could have more information on the screen and at your fingertips at the same time. You can load many of these things from the CLI, but it's not as convenient as within a GUI.
thisisnico··on I reverse engineered McDonalds’ internal API
It's also easy to implement since it will be integrated into the OS of the ice cream machine already.
thisisnico··on I reverse engineered McDonalds’ internal API
Cloud based clock.

Don't you mean NTP? We've had this technology for years! If it's connected to the internet, it's a pretty fundamental piece of pretty much any networked OS. You can ensure correct time this way.

thisisnico··on U.S. Accuses Google of Illegally Protecting Monopoly
I do agree that there is a clear monopoly on search.
thisisnico··on U.S. Accuses Google of Illegally Protecting Monopoly
As a small business, this is why I'm focused on Facebook Advertising. It's very easy to focus local.
thisisnico··on Cruise (GM) receives permit for fully driverless cars

thisisnico··on The Big Vitamin D Mistake (2017)
I believe this is due to vitamin absorption, our body requires fat to absorb certain vitamins. Some are fat soluble, some are water soluble. Just depends.
thisisnico··on The Big Vitamin D Mistake (2017)
I think 1000IU is fine for regular people with reasonable levels of D3, that might be a little low, but it's not enough for people that are VERY low.
thisisnico··on Chrome is deploying HTTP/3 and IETF QUIC
Even with BYOD, you still need a firewall... Source: Am Enterprise IT.
thisisnico··on US Insulin prices 8 times higher than in other nations
This shouldn't be allowed to happen. These people need this to live and your extorting as much as inhumanely possible from them. As a Canadian this disgusts me, I hope that there is change to allow people to get medication they need.
thisisnico··on Police are requesting data from smart speakers
My Amazon Alexa Listens to conversations to suggest items to purchase the next time I go on amazon. I hate this.

Also I pretty much only use it to listen to the radio.

thisisnico··on Windows XP leak confirmed after user compiles the leaked code into a working OS
I've seen companies list x number of requirements and hire someone that doesn't meet any of the "requirements".
thisisnico··on Man dies from eating more than a bag of liquorice a day
I stay far far away from competition as a powerlifter/bodybuilder. You pretty much need PED's just to compete, and not even to compete well, PED's + Insane training and Diet for that.
thisisnico··on Millions of Americans could lose their electricity as shutoff moratoriums expire
In Ontario Canada, you can be disconnected from electricity and Water, and they will disconnect it without mercy, on time, but only not during the winter months for obvious reasons that you could kill people.
thisisnico··on Mexican states are moving to ban the sale of junk food to children
It's worked. Almost no-one I know smokes, and it's uncool to smoke.
thisisnico··on Mexican states are moving to ban the sale of junk food to children
We tax alcohol and cigarettes because they are bad for you, but are totally fine with binge eating as much junk food as you like. Obesity is a massive epidemic. Heart attack and stroke are the number one killers, with obesity the highest cause. I'm all for putting warning labels on food showing the potential problems of overconsumption.
thisisnico··on G Suite Doesn't Let You Contact Support Until Logged In. Locked Out = Stuck
And there is zero support to help you fix the problem.
thisisnico··on G Suite Doesn't Let You Contact Support Until Logged In. Locked Out = Stuck
This is why I refuse to use google for most services. Support is absolute garbage.
thisisnico··on G Suite Doesn't Let You Contact Support Until Logged In. Locked Out = Stuck
I've had the exact same issue with Amazon. I had prime. Suspected suspicious activity. It's been 6 months without resolution. I just created another account but I've been calling in every day since. There is no escalation, I keep getting told the same thing: We have no power, we just submit the form to the Account Specialists. You should be called back in 24 hours. I've not once received a call back. My old account is still being used for fake reviews, while amazon had completely locked out the account from being able to login on any device. I can't log in. Whomever is in my account seems to have complete control through some other method, which would explain how they were able to access my old account, even though I have 2FA and mobile authentication. There is a vulnerability they are not talking about.
thisisnico··on Toshiba formally and finally exits laptop business

thisisnico··on Busted retailers use bankruptcy to break leases by the thousands
It's interesting, where I live in Ontario, the mall pre-recession was doing extremely well. They changed focus primarily to services, clothing, and food. Massive food court, 80% of the mall are clothing/fashion, and then there are services, like dr's office, optometrist, gym etc. They were killing it.
thisisnico··on Prevent person-to-person transmission of SARS-CoV-2
They use hand sanitizer. It contains moisturizer as well.

Gloves are scientifically proven not to work unless you replace them after every transaction, additionally most people do not know how to properly remove surgical gloves without contamination.

thisisnico··on IBM Is Already Gutting Red Hat and Firing Employees Without Warning
Couldn't you get employment lawyers involved here?
thisisnico··on Prevent person-to-person transmission of SARS-CoV-2
Because the gloves are mostly pointless, if not making the problem worse. It's better to not touch your face and sanitize your hands. All the cashiers here don't use gloves. They sanitize their hands after every transaction, they wear face masks, plexiglass shield around their station, and there is a limited number of people allowed in the store, with a 1m physical distance between customers enforced. This is the requirement in South-Western Ontario. So far it's working fantastic over here. All decisions have been informed by scientists and experts in their fields.
thisisnico··on Some Fundamental Theorems in Mathematics (2019) [pdf]
I feel like in Today's day and age it's about understanding the fundamentals of a system and using software tools that automate the heavy math to allow for creative problem solving quickly and dynamically, that wouldn't be possible on paper only or through manual computation only. I'd rather give the kid advanced tools to analyze and improve on the structure than force them to learn the already abstracted ulta-fundamental and impractical math that runs those tools...
thisisnico··on The World of Competitive Lockpicking
They could have just wrote horribly inefficient software like the rest of us.
thisisnico··on Niklaus Wirth was right and that is a problem
