thiagooffm··on Ask HN: Tired founders facing acquihire – please advise
Just sell it, recover yourself and get back in the game when you feel it's appropriate. Perhaps call me next time :-)

I've gave up the startup life a few years ago(without really counquering anything beyond experience) meanwhile I've got married, moved to a better country etc.

But I know all those things happened because my first tries with startups and so on gave me the work ethics to conquer the shit I wanted, and this will be kept my whole life, just as it does for you.

You can have your new shot when you are bored off your new job, and perhaps even with more funds as before... to perhaps make something even greater.

Just sell it. Almost none of business people generate today are actually make a profit or grow big, but there are many which makes competitiors or old companies be on "fear state", making they buy the business and you cash out well. That's a pretty good plan!

You don't need to end up with a billion dollar company to be happy. Even making 500k in 2 years is a good amount of money. You can invest this in funds and go salaried mode again.

You are doing well! But please don't neglect your health. It's the only thing that really matters. Make sure now that your health is perfect, you get enough exercise and you are satisfied with your life.

thiagooffm··on Ask HN: Starting a project today, which web framework would you use?
Both. It's easy to develop and also to deploy, which is something you want in a project.
thiagooffm··on Ask HN: How do you beat depression or total burnout state?
Also, why are you building it alone? Nobody find it interesting? You lack the leadership skills? What is drawing you back from getting people to help you?

If you want, feel free to contact me.

thiagooffm··on Ask HN: How do you beat depression or total burnout state?
Learn how to play an instrument you've always wanted with a teacher: it will be harder than building the MVP, more stressful, you will feel you are shit for a lot of time... but it will take you back to reality.
thiagooffm··on Ask HN: I don't want to be a founder anymore
You are overvaluating the wallmart job and thinking it "seems" stress free. The truth is that if you want to do anything at a very competitive level, even packaging goods at the counter, it WILL be stressful.

You could also stop stressing: don't answer the calls, let your business slide and go bankrupt.

Running a business is no easy feat. As you've got that far, you probably know that. You are likely tired because of it, which is normal, everybody gets tired and there's nothing wrong with you or your business.

I think what you need is to perhaps promote someone or get a friend to help you. I don't see how a domain can be so insanely complex and out of reality for everyone. You probably just need someone and that someone to spend enough time with you.

My point with stress is that I don't necessarily own a business anymore and never had as much success as you doing that, I'm not about to cash in some big money which would allow me to follow other passions I have. After some failed startups, I work for a big business and the only thing that changed was the job "security". Instead of having to look for a new job every year or so, now I don't anymore, but it's stressful: I want to do my best.

The same happens when I try to play the guitar, I get also tired, stressed out. Then I give it a pause. As with a business or work, you can't pause, but you can always ask for help.

thiagooffm··on Ask HN: Starting a project today, which web framework would you use?
Rails: stable ecosystem, just heroku it
thiagooffm··on Ask HN: Is Digital Ocean safe enough for production?
Of course it is. They provide you hosting, since the very beginning of the internet there has been companies providing this kind of service with success and if you wanted and had enough time and funds you could even do it yourself...

Now there's only virtualization on top of that.

thiagooffm··on Ask HN: Why so much negativity?
It might be because a lot of startups ended up becoming companies and we started seeing how people change as soon as they have a lot of money and is perceived to be successful.
thiagooffm··on Ask HN: Why doesn't Google own the weather?
monetizing it in a very competitive industry without a very compelling reason in the overall company mission?

looks like just a market to me which they could dip into and make some cash, without a deeper sense of vision nor a real change and impact. (which is where I usually see google/alphabet striving for)

maybe you see something deeper into that which i'm missing the point.

thiagooffm··on Ask HN: Underemployed and anxious. What would you do?
I suggest you change your strategy:

- Build a MVP of an application you would find useful, try to cover it with unit tests and modern day practices. I think having something on the table will greatly improve your chances. - Find a job somewhere else. I've never lived in the US but at least all my life I had to move to another city, and even to another continent to get the job I've wanted, that wanted me. The city I've lived most of my life I have no chances of getting a job: there are no jobs in my area there.

I know that NY is a great city for a developer, but the life cost and everything tells me that it's a "high level" city, the one you go after you had previous success. Places where life cost is low, there are many students and businesses at early stages are great.

I also suggest you to work for a startup. Perhaps one with many problems and issues at early stage which you would probably need to pull out more than 40h/week, because that will make you improve. I did that at the beginning of my career and it completely changed my life: I moved to a first world country, I've got married, I can make money etc. Those hard experiences make us way stronger. Of course, only do that if your current life allows you to do so: having kids or even trying to maintain a good relationship with others will be hard.
