thewarpaint··on New Stripe Website
Hi, no plans to share at the moment, but please sign up for updates here: https://stripe.com/global#AR
thewarpaint··on George Floyd died of asphyxia, private autopsy finds
From the article:

> The findings differ from an official preliminary autopsy carried out by the county medical examiner.

thewarpaint··on A 125-year-old delivery network that feeds Mumbai
This was also strange to me. I'm used to people bringing home made food with them to the office, then heating it up at lunch time and eating it. But I cannot imagine being sent a freshly cooked meal in the afternoon. Mind-blowing.
thewarpaint··on Ask HN: Dark mode for HN please?
> this is just a adding “text” and “background” colors - swapping white and black.

I would kindly invite you to skim the CSS suggestions that others made in the thread. It's not as simple as that.

thewarpaint··on Ask HN: What projects are you working on now?
Really interesting use of force touch, not sure if the repo is meant to be public already, would suggest you add a README with a short description of the project, installation instructions and so on. Best of luck!
thewarpaint··on HashiCorp Raises $175M at $5.1B Valuation
Care to elaborate why? Do you assume the company forces this on the engineering team?
thewarpaint··on Monobloc chair
"I expect that chair to outlive the company and possibly humans on the planet" is a sentence that I would react to with the opposite emotion :-(
thewarpaint··on Ask HN: What do you use tools like IFTTT or Zapier for?
IFTTT is already a SaaS, not sure exactly what you mean.
thewarpaint··on Ask HN: What do you use tools like IFTTT or Zapier for?
Great tip, will definitely check it out!
thewarpaint··on The specification for native image lazy-loading is merged into HTML standard
Can you elaborate on what makes you think so?
thewarpaint··on 311 years ago, Alexander Selkirk was rescued on a desert island
The Wikipedia article tells a slightly different story:

> Selkirk had grave concerns about the seaworthiness of their vessel, and wanted to make the necessary repairs before going any farther. He declared that he would rather stay on Juan Fernández than continue in a dangerously leaky ship. Stradling took him up on the offer and landed Selkirk on the island with a musket, a hatchet, a knife, a cooking pot, a Bible, bedding and some clothes. Selkirk immediately regretted his rashness, but Stradling refused to let him back on board.

thewarpaint··on Ask HN: What interesting problems are you working on?
On second thought they have a point, I have never had an email address with a dot being rejected, but I've seen it for the plus alias several times.
thewarpaint··on Ask HN: What interesting problems are you working on?
Great idea. My suggestion: why not use the Gmail-style johndoe+spotify@ suffix? Just because people would be more used to it. That way johndoe@ also would work.
thewarpaint··on Bring your monorepo down to size with sparse-checkout
> the core requirement of Continuous Integration that all team members commit to trunk at least once every 24 hours

It sounds good except for this part.

thewarpaint··on Hacker News Classics (2018)
Nice read: http://tom.preston-werner.com/2008/10/18/how-i-turned-down-3...
thewarpaint··on Hacking GitHub's Auth with Unicode's Turkish Dotless 'I'
Because it's part of the German language: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital_%E1%BA%9E
thewarpaint··on Ontario police warn of SIM swapping fraud
No one should be able to receive a text message meant for my number, regardless of the specific purpose of the message. That should be a basic security feature of the service, not something that comes for an extra fee.
thewarpaint··on Show HN: Sourcery – get a free, self-updating website
I got this error message while trying to generate a website:

{"message":"Cannot return null for non-nullable field Entity.phone."}

thewarpaint··on Why is modern web development so complicated?
Just a side note. Javascript does not strictly imply frameworks. Javascript does not strictly imply garbage.
thewarpaint··on Payroll startup Gusto raises $200M
I've never understood this behaviour. Is it because they don't want to send any official communication stating that they don't want to/cannot match your compensation request? Is it just bad blood? No idea.
thewarpaint··on How to read the international phonetic alphabet
By any chance, was your friend Italian? I distinctly remember some Italian speakers I've met pronouncing it exactly like that, "goiŋ-guh". Probably because they're used to most words ending in a vowel.
thewarpaint··on Why is collapsing a Hacker News comment so slow?
OP here. Dissing was not the intention of my post, if I can help in any way to improve HN let me know, would be more than glad to do so. Peace!
thewarpaint··on Why is collapsing a Hacker News comment so slow?
[-] is not a downvote button, but the collapsing one.
thewarpaint··on Why is collapsing a Hacker News comment so slow?
Tangentially related: I once built a page that logged you out of several services which implemented logout as GET requests (HN included). WARNING: might be better to visit it in incognito mode.

thewarpaint··on Why is collapsing a Hacker News comment so slow?
The slow behaviour is mostly noticeable on mobile Chrome, but will have a look, thanks for sharing.
thewarpaint··on Why is collapsing a Hacker News comment so slow?
Fun, interesting, you learn stuff, what's not to like?
thewarpaint··on Why is collapsing a Hacker News comment so slow?
1. Too much free time I guess. I'm a frontend guy, I find frontend stuff interesting.

2. No. Probably none.

3. Are you saying that you are willing to sacrifice the user experience of the bottom 25% of the users of a website?

thewarpaint··on Why is collapsing a Hacker News comment so slow?
I didn't want to make the post even bigger and deal with other browsers but that's a good idea for a follow-up.
thewarpaint··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (July 2019)
Hey there, are you hiring remote candidates worldwide or only US-based ones?
thewarpaint··on Thousands of New Millionaires Are About to Eat San Francisco Alive
What an optimistic outlook.
