But, there's a possible other culprit too, that I never noticed before the recent divisions in the populace due to politics, and that is the politization of policing. Now, I could be conflating cause and effect here, but wouldn't it be interesting if the reason we are culturally nervous of the police is that we have been told to be that way by mainstream influences. Just a thought, and I'm happy to have it all backwards.
That means what you think you know from things you read in the media might actually not be as truthy as what is said when someone has to sit down before a body that has the power to criminalize dishonesty.
And its an important tool for government. There are very public scandals that the people want answers for. You may say it fits nicely with the expectations of office that elected officials might get to the bottom of things that may effect large groups of their constituents.
I'm like you, I say yes often, and I'm honest about how excited I am to do it... but it comes at a social cost.
Sometimes its better to fake it and be nice, even when you're bad at faking it.
Pros: I learned how to listen to customers, create proposals that tend to close, and upsell... all while being able to build the end product. This has helped me to close a good number of side projects after I moved back to working for larger companies.
Cons: The challenge working as an engineer in these small firms is that your resources are limited to the budget of the customer, which can be too small to do top-notch engineering work. You can generally find the balance without sacrificing too much quality, but you will never be completely satisfied with your work-product.
Ended up getting paid more at a new company, so it worked out.
Also, no surprise things die down after an election, since it’s not the hot topic anymore.
But, seriously, why not use Blogger. Operates at Google scale, absolutely free.
I was thinking of building a mobile app to track movement and show this same data. Can't decide if its a passing fancy or not, so, maybe just a free idea for you. :)

I believe I know more people who make good, consistent money from on-the-side real-estate transactions than people who make 5-figure yearly bonuses.
This is a fun thought-experiment.
I love this question, because its humble, searching, sincere. Why does God want our praise? He, or any deity, is far far above it. Why go through all this trouble creating this elaborate mess just to talk to a bunch of specks of protein. None of it, none of Christianity made sense to me. The purpose behind it all. Its just stupid.
But there it was in Ephesians 2:7, God's reason. I was relieved because it is a selfish reason. I couldn't stand the idea that God is just love love love... it was just giving and getting nothing in return. And it didn't reflect the Jehova of the Old Testament. But Ephesians says he did it for the glory. Who's going to be the witness of that? What peer-group or other beings would God point to and say "There I did it, I'm amazing."? I have no clue. However, this is so refreshing to me, because it shows that God is possessive and jealous, and very much like us, who were "made in his image".
But, I have to agree with agnostics... humans are far from the center of the universe. God is. Its his game. His strange, fearsome, terrible, wonderful work.
I would certainly join if the network effects were similar to that of Facebook and hitching a ride was a simple affair.
True, but we are often driven by biological influences that cannot altogether be considered "reason".
>> it's not "dishonorable" to fight for segregation or for limiting opportunity based on race
Fighting for advantages, being the disadvantaged, is simply the other side of the coin, behaviorally, from the advantaged holding on to their advantages.
