Maker of collAnon.app, your next multi web app for you everyday digital life, or not .-.

thepra··on Ask HN: Anyone tired of everything being a subscription now?
I agree with the sentiment in this thread that there's not enough purchase choice when it comes to online services.

So this thread inspired me to offer more purchase choice of my online free SaaS once I've set up collAnon.app as a self-hosting software too.

In a couple of weeks you'll see :)

thepra··on Ask HN: Anyone else suffering from tinnitus?
Long time mild/livable tinnitus holder. I just got used to it, even when I'm programming. And well aware that that sound will probably be the last sound I'll hear in this life.

What worked for me when programming or thinking intensively is getting used to headphones and background music always running, thus once trained to think clearly with noise then the job becomes more bearable.

thepra··on Ask HN: Does anybody manage their own music collection anymore?
Yep, on a self hosted Nextcloud instanceis quite easy
thepra··on Ask HN: What is the most impactful thing you've built?
A new ETL with desktop management app and web interface for graphs/statistics for an office in a banking group. All with C# and, unfortunately, Visual Basic and the web stack.

Quite a challenge that took ~1 year all alone.

thepra··on Ask HN: How relevant is cross-browser testing anymore?
Can't tell you my distress when government websites use Google captchas and on Firefox you're stuck and can't go through your business...
thepra··on Ask HN: How relevant is cross-browser testing anymore?
That's why I use only features that are cross compatible between browsers, even though I feel left behind on some new features only available on Chrome -_-
thepra··on Ask HN: How relevant is cross-browser testing anymore?
Just tell them Chrome is going to become the next IE if everything only works on Chrome
thepra··on Ask HN: How do you monitor your sideprojects?
I did setup a mongodb database for the logs of all my apps, and built an admin dashboard to look up into it.
thepra··on The Restaurant Industry’s Worst Idea: QR Code Menus
could you point out this UIs?
thepra··on Ask HN: Getting tired of complexity in web development
I've been through projects that gave schema migrations and when there was any mistake or error during schema migrations it was a real big pain to rollback, fix and release. With mongodb this is gone, schemas are no more of an issue as long as you make sure to keep the models sane and the business logic of the fields up to date.
thepra··on Aging programmer
I started my career as a full stack and I've been doing it so far well.

I like to design and think thoroughly about business logic and data layout and also how you host and architect the final running services/websites.

It seems that I just can't leave the software secret sauce being secret.

thepra··on Ask HN: Help me pick a front-end framework
Blazor WebAssembly might be your pick, there's a starting template, write the front-end in c# and everything else in HTML and CSS as usual.

It's such a breeze developing even complex webapps with it like my project collanon.app

thepra··on What's the cheapest domain you can register for 10 years?
damn, commented on the wrong thread. I'm sorry

thepra··on Project Fugu status – Web apps should be able to do anything native apps can
I would rather like a coordinated effort with Firefox. I would never ship nor build web apps that work only on one browser.
thepra··on Running Stable Diffusion on Your GPU with Less Than 10Gb of VRAM
The issues with f*ng console commands is that they fail, too often.

After installing CUDA 11.7 and reinstalling torch I'm still facing:

> AssertionError: Torch not compiled with CUDA enabled

thepra··on Show HN: Create Native Desktop Apps from WebAssembly
I guess Blazor WebAssembly based webapps can't be used with this system.
thepra··on .NET 6 is now in Ubuntu 22.04
Self-hosted Ubuntu server ;) For APIs, WebApps and websites.
thepra··on Ask HN: What is something you built but never marketed?
There were shy attempts at "marketing" https://collanon.com but I didn't follow through them seriously even though it's a ready to go platform.
thepra··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (August 2022)
I'm still working on collAnon[1], a private discussions platform(behind a PWA) with bias avoiding intent through temporary anonymity of the answers(which also means that discussions have an end date).

In the latest development I decided to change route and make it freemium, with all the previous premium features now available to everyone.

This is to make it more appealing to try this kind of discussions that are not your usual way and give ample breath to use all the features until this platform finds its audience I hope ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

thepra··on Scratch is a big deal
I tried to teach with scratch to a class of kids, the software worked across tablets like iOS and Android and PCs in incoherent ways, the same code blocks worked slightly or totally differently.

And I'm not gonna give such classes anymore around this software, a waste of time.

thepra··on Proton is trying to become Google without your data
when you can't add more accounts on the android app without a subscription is where it is still annoying on mobile
thepra··on AutoAnimate – Add motion to web apps with a single line of code
How much is this compatible with Blazor? (No npm or similar)
thepra··on Dutch digital identity system crisis
In Italy we're already in quite similarly bad situation, following is a list of third-party "services" used inside PosteID https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=posteitaliane...., one of the most used apps for gov. authentication:

Libraries: Adobe Experience Cloud, Google AdMob, Google CrashLytics and Google Firebase Analytics

Domains catched so far: ajax.googleapis.com android.googleapis.com auditrecording-pa.googleapis.com clientservice.googleapis.com connectivitycheck.gstatic.com crashlyticsreports-pa.googleapis.com deviceintegritytokens-pa.googleapis.com doc-0k-ac-docs.googleusercontent.com firebaseinstallations.googleapis.com lh3.googleusercontent.com www.googleapis.com assets.adobedtm.com oms.dowjoneson.com 2.bp.blogpost.com firebase-settings.crashlytics.com s.webtrends.com statse.webtrendslive.com

To sum it up: googleapis, gstatic, googleusercontent, adobedtm!, dowjoneson?, blogpost!, crashlytics, webtrends, webtrendslive

Plus, the system is based on providers, so you have to go through many burocratic steps to get recognized and then you pay-per-user/year that can go up to 7 Euro/user

thepra··on SnappyMail – Modern, lightweight and fast web-based email client
the GUI is quite ugly not correctly positioned or proportional in many places, IMO
thepra··on Actual is going open-source
Yep, making clients apps is kind of hell, that's why I chose PWAs for my web app collAnon, "installable" on iPhones, Androids and Desktops
thepra··on Sounding the alarm: How noise hurts the heart (2021)
I wish ear canceling worked well but even with good brands I end up with hearing loss after prolonged daily use simply because the noise cancelling was making my hearing working all the time, without pauses.
thepra··on Ask HN: What Happened to Evernote?
Nextcloud Notes might work for you
thepra··on Ask HN: When will ACL on Linux be part of the DE?
I was talking in general, and I guess my knowledge of kde was lacking, but for Nautilus that extension should become part of it, natively :D

I know Eiciel as the standalone app, didn't knew it was also an extension, it was a chore to use as standalone

ps: thanks for the first reference, I added a like and shared an agreable comment for such feature ;)

thepra··on Smuxi – An Open Source Client IRC, Twitter, XMPP, Campfire, JabbR
I've yet to find an IRC client that's not an eyesore...
