thenthenthen··on Xiaomi MiMo v2.6
Fiber optic cable for one
thenthenthen··on Qwen Image 2.1
It is a total wild west here (i live in China). No escape from AI, literally everything is AI, from AI toilet paper to AI companions. No one has money or jobs and when this bubble bursts we are so cooked.
thenthenthen··on Qwen Image 2.1
Within a few days this seems a total pivot from Xiaomi’s op RL dashboard and the praise of Chinese open model? What is the sentiment now?
thenthenthen··on Porsche puts wireless EV charging into production
We already have several, see the Xiaomi SU7 lineup
thenthenthen··on How did Apple Silicon get 50% faster in three years? – Daniel Lemire's blog
Yes, i am sceptical of the claim in the article
thenthenthen··on How did Apple Silicon get 50% faster in three years? – Daniel Lemire's blog
Answer might be in the comments on the page: Apple has access to the best TSMC nodes.
thenthenthen··on I think you should almost never use AI to write
LLM’s can be soooo derailing. Better ask a few friends to give feedback on your writing. Yes, it will take two weeks before you get any, but it is waaay more valuable than any LLM and absolutely worth the time (also gives you some fresh eyes ;) ). Dont forget to give them a gift, copy, credit.
thenthenthen··on Measure internet censorship. Contribute to the largest open dataset
I would love to contribute, but i do not think it is a good idea to install and run this in China…enough said. Also i already know the outcome: network is fast, everything is blocked
thenthenthen··on AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible
You dont have borderless printers there? Scale to cover full page and go!
thenthenthen··on AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible
I wonder how these videos have ‘asian’ cultural values encoded in them. What models do they use? Trained on what? Etc.
thenthenthen··on US troop deaths during Iran war exceed Pentagon count by at least four
Disputed by who?

“Operation Cyclone was one of the longest and most expensive covert CIA operations ever undertaken”[1]

I also recommend the book “The Great War for Civilisation” by Robert Fisk

thenthenthen··on Claude Code now reads AGENTS.md if there is no Claude.md
Mmm and autorun.inf, any dir with that file will automatically be scrutinised by any running agent on your system
thenthenthen··on More than 100k people in Japan are now aged 100 or older
Thanks for a new puzzle piece!
thenthenthen··on More than 100k people in Japan are now aged 100 or older
And why is Japan so obsessed with french things?
thenthenthen··on More than 100k people in Japan are now aged 100 or older
This. As well as aging population, plus bad economy, no one is making Children. They build an over capacity of kindergardens as well. These are all closing now and people losing their jobs, furthering the (real) sentiment of depression and keeping your wallets and your legs closed…so to say.
thenthenthen··on Diplodocus, Long Thought Exclusively American, Turns Up in Spain
“Diplodocus, Long Thought Extinct, turn up in Spain” yep same here
thenthenthen··on The Painful Truth: The RAM Crisis Is Only Just the Beginning
You are not missing much (it is basically an advertisement), besides the somewhat intimidating mugshot of a German dude as the header image.
thenthenthen··on I can't stop thinking about Papua New Guinea
Thank you so much, what a great write up (did you submit it here?). Surprised you took any pictures to be honest. Some great observations! Those barred windows def look familiar. Correction:on a second look, these do not look like the typical chinese square tubing bars!
thenthenthen··on US confirms for first time it has deployed space weapons
Ah so thats the reason behind the ‘datacenters in space’ headlines some time ago
thenthenthen··on Giving up on smart rings
Was thinking about how many people willingly stuff lithium batteries in their ears, but have never read about an accident
thenthenthen··on I can't stop thinking about Papua New Guinea
The streets are littered with beetlenut in Shenzhen, especially Huaqiangbei. Also Chunking Mansion, HK (take the stairs). Would not recommend if you have elevated blood pressure.
thenthenthen··on I can't stop thinking about Papua New Guinea
Interesting, did you take pics? Most living quarters (小区)in China have electrical fences and most windows have been barred. Left over from the 80’s when crime was high. Nowadays the bars prevent pets and children from falling out of the window (plus the cage like construction allows for some extra storage space)
thenthenthen··on Pion, an agent designed to run any company autonomously
Not sure why the downvotes… my company solely survives on the connections and trust made over time. Real human connections, face to face. This in turn established a reputation.
thenthenthen··on For AI leaders Doom is a form of hype
The doom is already here, it’s just not evenly distributed
thenthenthen··on For AI leaders Doom is a form of hype
Does a 3 month lockdown count? https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-61023811
thenthenthen··on For AI leaders Doom is a form of hype
I feel they will…. The economy is so shit, the robots mentioned a few posts up, are largely performative, just like AI. Its just about money. Everything is AI enabled now, from scales at the supermarkets to vending machines, but its 90% people behind a camera in a cheap remote location. In the past three years my salary halved every year. There are no jobs. Just speculation. This thing is gonna crash harder than the housing market.

Tangent: what happened to these staffless supermarkets of 10 years ago? I have never seen them again after .. covid.. weird!

thenthenthen··on Adversarial Fashion Makes a Statement on AI Panopticon
Projects like this pop up multiple times per year. Mostly one off student project, sometimes famous designers. Its such low hanging fruit that wont change anything. Better start teaching politics in art school?
thenthenthen··on Reverse engineering my e-scooter and rewriting the firmware in Rust
Thanks, are these popular besides Huaqiangbei (Shenzhen) delivery guys?
