thejynxed··on Apple announces it will switch to its own processors for future Macs
Especially not corporations :)
thejynxed··on Apple announces it will switch to its own processors for future Macs
All of the above, and it will cost less to boot, and certainly will cost at minimum half of Apple's ridiculous markup.

Right now absolutely everyone else is ahead of Intel in the NM race, with some currently shipping chips two process nodes ahead and several announced chips going so far as being twice as small as Intel's current process node. This is partially why AMD has been able to offer laptop CPUs that rival Intel's desktop offerings for less cost.

JS/ads and the wifi chipset seems to be the big culprit across laptops in general in this scenario. Even Netflix doesn't drain my battery as fast as hitting an ad heavy site with lots of JS and analytics and I can watch the power usage for my wifi chipset crank up accordingly. This happens across every laptop, iPad, Chromebook etc that I own.

Well yes, it's quite noticeably sluggish and bloated on the whole, with even UIs seemingly getting worse over time. Probably doesn't help that everything these days wants to push and pull from multiple networked sources instead of being more self-contained.

As for this, I have, and I certainly would not buy for the first two-three (if not more) hardware revisions after such a major architecture change until I could evaluate how that hardware has been working out for the early adopter guinea pigs. I'd also need to see where everything stood concerning software, especially the educational software that has been getting written almost entirely for x86 systems or specifically targeting Chromebooks for the last 5+ years. Even then I am not sure the Technology Director is going to be anything but skeptical about running everything in VMs or Docker containers. Chromebooks are cheap, reasonably functional, easy to replace, and already run all district educational software.
thejynxed··on The End of OS X
From my understanding it's because Valve really wants to directly interact with Apple as infrequently as possible.
thejynxed··on The End of OS X
To be fair, they nearly did bite the bullet until Microsoft stepped in with that loan (for entirely non altruistic reasons on their part of course).
thejynxed··on Venmo and Paypal Are Stalling Urgent Efforts to Bail People Out of Jail
Well yes, besides it running afoul of laws governing anti-mafia/cartel dealings, the risk of fraud is very high.
thejynxed··on GitHub is working on renaming default branch from “master”
Bougie malcontents LARPing as revolutionaries and moving from industry to industry like a swarm of locusts has been going on since at least the '90s, it's just now their ability to be noticed is greater due to advances in communications platforms.

Chattel slavery and slave markets have existed in Mauritania since before the first Europeans even set foot in Africa, and to this day they refuse to end the practice and have told the UN directly that they refuse to end the practice every time another UN member raises a fuss about it.

So yes, this is a token action meant to appease those that are never truly appeased due to their rapid movement of goalposts.

thejynxed··on The Silence of the Never Facebookers
My wife also teaches these sorts of children and the vast majority of them seldom improve beyond a 5th or 6th grade level, and many of the "smarter" ones with milder disabilities end up in jail at some point after being graduated (most typically for sexual, theft, violence, and drug offenses) out of the system since they can no longer be failed, yet they basically can't truly be taught how to properly function in society since they can't even properly comprehend laws or how they work, as they only have basic reading capability and comprehension of even simple children's books.

Closing institutions insteading of reforming and modernizing them for these sorts of people was indeed a mistake.

thejynxed··on Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone
We mocked them because they didn't dig up the turf first before dumping the potting soil on top and planting things that are going to wash away into the nearest storm drain in the first heavy downpour.
thejynxed··on Removing “Annoying” Windows 10 Features Is a DMCA Violation, Microsoft Says
Yes, that is how it works, and you can buy a key right inside the Windows Store app so you don't even have to go digging in Microsoft's website nor a reseller site.

See, this bit about the Live account is where you and I differ. It's now so much easier just to have my Live account that mirrors my Local User account, except I use a PIN to login instead of a password and my Win10 license is bound to my Live account so if I need to reinstall and reactivate I don't have to screw around with manually typing keys or having to call MS to activate, it simply works.
thejynxed··on GE Fridge DRM Workaround
Eyeroll.
thejynxed··on New Facebook tool allows employers to suppress “unionize” in workplace chat
Such rules come in at the state level and are usually pushed for by the large national unions to bully and push out local and regional small unions. Every major union from UAW to SEIU has been guilty of this.
thejynxed··on After 100K Covid-19 cases, it’s clearer where Californians are getting infected
Newsome will get absolutely dragged about that high-speed rail system from nowhere to nowhere and what really happened to all of that money.
thejynxed··on Huawei builds up 2-year reserve of 'most important' US chips
It's supposed to cause consternation because even the UN has declared Iran a state sponsor of terrorism for the last fifty years and nobody in the EU should even be considering doing business with them.
thejynxed··on Huawei builds up 2-year reserve of 'most important' US chips
Well it doesn't help when the ostensible NATO allies barring the U.S. have never once met their full monetary or self-defense obligations. Obama of all people had to take a stick to Germany just to get them to raise their rate to 15% from 8% per annum when they are supposed to be paying 33% per annum.
thejynxed··on Zoom plans to roll out strong encryption for paying customers
Zoom is for people who don't mind kids organizing raids to plaster their meetings with hardcore gay porn and images of tubgirl.
thejynxed··on Twitter hides Donald Trump tweet for “glorifying violence”
In the part where it was declared a de facto public forum for interacting with the POTUS. It is implied that Twitter would face consequences for violating the rights of the population to redress grievances directly with their elected leader in the forum, in this case, it being a Twitter account. The US National Archives also weighed in and said they would sanction Twitter if the account is removed before the end of his Presidency.
thejynxed··on Two years in, GDPR defined by mixed signals, unbalanced enforcement
Of course they do, and just like my ancestors did in 1776 I am free to tell them to mind their own business on their own side of the pond.
thejynxed··on Two years in, GDPR defined by mixed signals, unbalanced enforcement
Except on any servers entirely out of EU control. China and Israel for instance, have flatly refused to comply with GDPR and furthermore refute any claimed authority the EU has over anyone or any servers residing in their respective nations. I know I refuse to comply with my small US customer-only physical data storage company even though I regularly get visitors from the EU on my company site (And my site says I specifically only serve US customers mainly because I refuse as an owner to deal with the bullshit surrounding the storage and shipping of encrypted tapes and drives full of data belonging to other people outside of the USA).
thejynxed··on HashiCorp forbids its software being used in China
What they are saying is that even in regards to OSS it wouldn't matter because China has such a disregard for non-Chinese law (and the citizens have blatant disregard for even some Chinese law) and property that they will just outright steal it or otherwise break any law that inconveniences them to just use the software anyway.
thejynxed··on CNN reporter arrested live on air while covering Minneapolis protests [video]
I'd like to know exactly when the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces doesn't control the military.
thejynxed··on CNN reporter arrested live on air while covering Minneapolis protests [video]
From my experience having been arrested and held like this before: No. They don't even have to attest to probable cause until the 24-hr limit hits, in which case they will then formally arrest you by taking you to be fingerprinted, a reading of Miranda, etc along with paperwork containing the attestation of probable cause, or let you go, again, with a pile of paperwork, and sometimes both, in which case they arrest you formally, give you paperwork, and an issued summons to appear in court before sending you on your way.

The outside officers were also acting on direct orders from the FBI and not SPD or the city mayor in the case of the WTO riots. Having been in said riots where idiots dressed in black started smashing things, thus drawing in the FBI (and there's been numerous accusations over the years that the Black Bloc groups were also under FBI direction). Getting whacked by a baton while I was filming was not fun but I got whacked because the officer missed his actual target who was standing slightly behind me and had been busy throwing bricks and then dodging in behind other people.
thejynxed··on Twitter hides Donald Trump tweet for “glorifying violence”
To be fair, in regard's to Trump's Twitter account, a Federal judge has already ruled that Twitter absolutely may not remove his account, and likewise, he may not block people who insult his spray tan, because it's a de facto public forum for interacting with the POTUS.
thejynxed··on Twitter hides Donald Trump tweet for “glorifying violence”
I don't report anything except kiddie diddlers, cuz, in general, reporting is totally lame.
