thastings··on Android phones are sending significant amount of user data with no opt-out [pdf]
This is the exact thing I was wondering about. As far as I understood, they flashed GApps, even though GApps is not part of the default installation. I wonder what the findings would've been like on LineageOS without the GApps.
thastings··on Ask HN: Mobile Browser with Page Flipping
A little further background: I found that I end up getting too focused on putting the beginning of each paragraph on the top of my screen when reading longer articles on my phone, and after a while this takes away from the experience of reading. Therefore, if the pages behaved like any other text in an ebook reading app application, such as FBReader, reading a long piece would be much more enjoyable. I hope I'm not alone with this, and someone even has a solution for it.

Edit: typos

thastings··on Ask HN: Redundancy-free FOSS Android launcher?
Niagara, no matter how nice, collects way to much data for my liking. It's a good thing that you mentioned Ratio too, because it also lets me accomplish the same thing while also being privacy oriented. Thanks!
thastings··on Ask HN: Redundancy-free FOSS Android launcher?
Thanks for the tip, it really does what I was hoping to accomplish. Although there is a price to pay: https://help.niagaralauncher.app/article/27-privacy-policy
thastings··on System76 Developing “Cosmic” Desktop Environment
No matter how unpopular this approach is, I must agree... I've been on Pop OS for years, and it really is the best GNOME I've seen. However, GNOME itself is pretty weird and even slow these days – yet it's nearly the de facto Linux DE. And System76 is adding more bells and whistles, probably not making it more snappy. This is sad to see, because there are stable, nice, and fast DE's, like Budgie. Or KDE, of course, but I'm more of a GTK person.
thastings··on Budgie Is Worth a Try
Actually, I'm using Ubuntu Budgie with a 120 Hz 1080p monitor, it's very responsive. Very much what you would expect these days from any desktop.
thastings··on Budgie Is Worth a Try
I am sorry about the inaccurate statements made, they have been fixed according to your points. Many thanks to the Budgie and Solus team for the great desktop experience!
thastings··on Budgie Is Worth a Try
I've seen the old Budgie too, it really wasn't good back then. Now it's more or less bug-free, alhough, I personally don't use multiple workspaces, so can't comment on that.
thastings··on Budgie Is Worth a Try
Indeed, wink-wink :D
thastings··on Budgie Is Worth a Try
Case in point. Pop really is the pinnacle of GNOME Ubuntu derivatives IMO, I've run it for years. And if it wasn't for the 18.04 base of Elementary, Budgie would've slipped under my radar completely.
