tetrisgm··on Show HN: I worked on a new browser for 2 years, today it passed Acid 3
Congrats. I’d love a very agent friendly browser by the way
tetrisgm··on User Interfaces of the Demo Scene
Back when you had to create a design language and an interface, to express what ideas you were experimenting with
tetrisgm··on French musician Kavinsky found dead
Amazing artist. Thanks for all the work. Rip
tetrisgm··on Digital Intelligence: Why Humanity Created What It Does Not Understand
The history of civilization is tied to the history of technology. The more technology progresses, the more our knowledge and information does.

So of course we need tools that work more and more natively with information and that can help with decision making and execution.

tetrisgm··on Moonshine: Lets you stream games from your PC to any device running Moonlight
Thank you
tetrisgm··on Moonshine: Lets you stream games from your PC to any device running Moonlight
I’m not completely clear on how this differs from running Sunshine on a Linux box
tetrisgm··on A bug which affected only left handed users
The one that cracked me up when I realized: door knobs. The positioning, orientation, and how you relate to the door. Completely inverted
tetrisgm··on A bug which affected only left handed users
The industrial design and the UI design of all things tends to default to the 85% of people who are right handed and aren’t aware of potential limitations.

This is translated into issues into the items others have listed.

tetrisgm··on A bug which affected only left handed users
Yep
tetrisgm··on Om Malik has died
Oh no. Rest in peace Om. We interacted a few times back in the Web 2.0 back when I’d write for ReadWriteWeb.

You were one of the sharpest writers in the scene. You understood product, builders. You had empathy, and so much less ego than everyone.

I always looked up to your insights. I knew that you took the time and care to think. Thanks for sharing all that.

tetrisgm··on OpenAI DayBreak – GPT-5.5-Cyber
It's a pretty interesting opportunity. I wonder if they will reach to companies and tell them how many things they could fix and how many are critical, before selling them the solution.
tetrisgm··on I Stored a Website in a Favicon
Lmk if you end up pushing this further!
tetrisgm··on Hacker News but for independent blogs
Yeah, I'm sure you use multiple different debit cards and credit cards and bank accounts and various identities to make sure nothing's correlated either, right?
tetrisgm··on The brain was not designed for this much bad news
since they are privately organized, you need to know the organizers or somebody who knows them. Be expert in the topic in question.
tetrisgm··on The brain was not designed for this much bad news
I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. Back in 2010 I gave a TEDx talk about how the internet can be an extension of your mind.

Nowadays I feel like it is contributing noise. The internet has become X, Reddit, AI, doomscrolling and group messaging.

Very little room for positive messaging. I don’t mean to harp about the theft of attention: the message itself is just not even contributing anything.

tetrisgm··on I Stored a Website in a Favicon
I saw one before that was doing this and saved the whole thing as a base64 stream. So the url would dynamically update and have all its data. Pretty cool. I suppose the main obstacle is now where do I load the site from, and how much can be stored in itself or an image :)
tetrisgm··on I Stored a Website in a Favicon
Love it. Did you see the old effort to store the page in the url? https://github.com/jstrieb/urlpages
tetrisgm··on Policy on the AI Exponential
Interesting. Thanks for enlightening.

My non-poetic brain thinks we should call then Mini, nothing, Pro, Max, and then version numbers. Exactly like Apple. It'd be so much easier to parse. Maybe the AI companies like having the affectionate names haha

tetrisgm··on Policy on the AI Exponential
Honest question: is there a reason for the naming conventions for these models? Anything that makes it better than giving them names with model numbers, like “Claude 3” or such?
tetrisgm··on Show HN: Learn from 30 historical figures, open source, nonprofit, self-hosted
Very interesting idea. Is this an experiment or something you’re looking to grow as a business? I’m curious about how this thing will evolve.

I would totally use a version of this for Swift programming

tetrisgm··on Entanglement Builds Space-Time. Now "Magic" Gives It Gravity
I gotta say every aspect of this headline reads like bullshit. Unfortunately
tetrisgm··on French-Iranian author Marjane Satrapi, author of 'Persepolis', dies at 56
Poor woman. Somehow despite growing through hardships, it’s the loss of her husband that broke her.

May she be at peace now, and her work cherished.

tetrisgm··on Razor 1911 and the Amiga Demoscene
I mean there were some demos at compos for sure but I’d say that’s very much an insider crowd
tetrisgm··on Razor 1911 and the Amiga Demoscene
From the article: “ Calling Razor 1911 simply an “Amiga demoscene group” is a bit like calling a pirate ship “a wooden transport solution.” Technically true, but you are missing the interesting part. Razor was part demo group, part cracking crew, part underground distribution machine, and part myth factory.”
tetrisgm··on Earthion: A New Mega Drive-Style Shoot-Em-Up
A lot of people commenting seem unaware it’s an actual Sega Genesis game. It will get a cart release. The modern platform support is via emulators.

It’s extremely well crafted. I’d argue it has the level of polish you’d expect from a very well made modern release. That is not the case with a lot of Genesis era shmups.

tetrisgm··on Plex's price hikes prove I was right to switch to Jellyfin
It's called Kodi now
tetrisgm··on SDL Now Supports DOS
Right. I guess I mean like an app specific OS haha
tetrisgm··on SDL Now Supports DOS
Stupid question but... would bundling the binary with an ASM port of something that could run this technically make it possible to run without the OS?

I realize this is basically doing docker for DOS games and incredibly stupid, I'm just curious about the thought experiment

tetrisgm··on Ohio prison inmates 'built computers and hid them in ceiling' (2017)
Excellent lateral thinking, and result driven mindset. I’m not being sarcastic either
tetrisgm··on Saying goodbye to Agile
1. estimate this sprint. let's say it's 100 points. 2. oh no, you shipped 80 points. 3. "we need to better estimates":

a) engineer spends more time trying to guess which direction the wind will blog b) engineer starts sandbagging estimates c) engineer changes nothing. looks bad next time the imaginary goal isn't met. "bob needs help estimating".
