testHNac··on Belgium to Require Crypto Ads to Include Stark Warning on Risk
It will be as effective as graphic warning on Cigarette packaging.

The people 'betting' on Crypto are delusional, they will just see this as a conspiracy by the Government / Banks.

testHNac··on Unlimited deposit insurance: A radical idea that’s gaining steam in Congress
They won't bother fixing the system. As they can bail it out repeatedly.

Till the time the World uses your currency as the Global Reserve, you can print all the money you want.

When the actions of politicians in one country, make the rest of the world suffer, wonder how long will that privilege last.

testHNac··on The New York Times made a weird editorial decision with its tech coverage
What did this person say that was wrong ?

These type of comments are sadly immediately downvoted by the HN hivemind. No credible response is given.

Sad.

Note - Not an American. Not White. If you are Downvoting please respond. I would like to know if it's due to your political leanings or because of something I can improve upon and learn.

This would be good reporting by NYT if this was not conflict of interest.

Strong Social Media companies give voice to the people, that runs counter to the power of the media.

We have seen many stories run in the last 5 years of Global importance, that NYT, WaPo, CNN etc decided were not TRUE.

And Social Media reacted to the words of these Guardians of Truth. Banning many accounts and even hurting many careers.

Now we see those stories by Mainstream media were either misguided or plain lies with an agenda.

Do we want even News Media to have this kind of power ?

Who is watching them ?

testHNac··on The New York Times made a weird editorial decision with its tech coverage
Note - I am not an American.

From what I have read in American News Media I see so many things that have been blatant lies published by respected News Media like NYT and WaPo. But I don't think I have come across corrections regarding such national and international stories.

Regarding your statement - " ... degrades the value of our public spaces." I believe even your mainstream news media is guilty of the same.

testHNac··on Who Should Stop Unethical A.I.?
Who should stop Unethical ( anything ) ? People, Communities and Nations have flexible morals. One person's ethical might be another's permissible.
testHNac··on “Silicon Valley’s Safe Space” has misinformed readers
NYT have been losing journalists too. The journos turned on their own - so much for freedom of speech. https://www.bariweiss.com/resignation-letter

To be fair, NYT's motto was ( probably still is ) "All the News that's fit to Print" https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-16918787

Reading that resignation letter I wonder who gets to decide if the TRUTH is 'Fit to Print'.

testHNac··on “Silicon Valley’s Safe Space” has misinformed readers
> dicrediting by association. Any view that is also positively regarded by an extremist group (right or left) becomes evidence of the author's support for that group

Isn't this quite common in 'Cancel Culture' as well as in 'Hit Piece Journalism' ?

You can discredit anyone by portraying them as a single dimensional thought - generally stating their words or actions out of context.

Silly Example: A Person X has been seen frequenting a food joint that is participating in alleged inhumane industrial massacre of animals. So we read - The person is an evil animal hater. And so is everyone who has ever eaten at pretty much any fast food chain.

testHNac··on Firefox 83 introduces HTTPS-Only Mode
Firefox is my primary browser on desktop and Mobile.

On Windows 10, I use Cold Turkey to block distracting websites. I often have issues with Firefox bypassing the blocks on Windows, ignoring the Hosts settings.

On Android, Block Site addons are not compatible with the new Firefox for Android.

I love Firefox, but some recent changes make me feel that I have less control over my browsing experience.

I hope they don't make things 'default' for our 'protection', rather leave some things to the user to decide as per their preferences.

testHNac··on Trump-Backed Drug to Be Tested on Thousands in Mumbai Slums
1) It gets clicks when you mention Trump. 2) Alludes to rich taking advantage of slum dwellers.

Covid-19 has no cure. Anyone testing anything today is taking chances with people's lives.

It's nice to see that this pandemic hasn't let us people lose our 'petty politics' nature.

Especially the Journalists who will always try to push an agenda for clicks.

testHNac··on Trump-Backed Drug to Be Tested on Thousands in Mumbai Slums
Check the demographic details. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dharavi#Demographics

Try not to bring your bias into this.

testHNac··on Trump-Backed Drug to Be Tested on Thousands in Mumbai Slums
Same drug is being tested in Labs all over the world.

But you are equating slum dwellers to rats.

testHNac··on The worlds worst IoT idea is almost fully funded
I see a demand from people making wedding videos - a couple in a romantic backdrop and suddenly candles light up.

Other than that I am not sure. Wonder if the ignition device is height adjustable. If I have a half used candle, where the wick doesn't reach the ignition device - I guess I will need to replace the candle.

testHNac··on Hindu supremacists are tearing India apart
I don't see why this should be on HN. Let's start piling up news of US primaries, Trump and Hillary bashing. And make this another place we wouldn't want to visit.
