I am not sure in which part you disagree with me. Yes most of the present youth in India - who are in a position to make an impact, are not doing it. A very simple case - they would rather pay the bribe to get LPG connection rather than fight. But the poor, they cannot do that and they are not in a position to make an impact and are trapped. This is a vicious circle. The effect of reservation based on caste is debatable but that would be a topic of its own.
The problem pointed out in the article is a commonly accepted truth in India. Some hard truth - even though there have been many efforts to bring the economically and socially under developed class into the mainstream, it has not happened yet. Most of the students who even come to UG especially college's like St. Stephens are from middle class or upper middle class families. They have very little incentive to fight the system. The brand comes with privilege which is the only thing they are after. In short, people do not fight the system but have learned to make it work for them. The poor and downtrodden are the unfortunate majority who are not able to do it.
I think you are overestimating the demand for talent here. Recently Infosys announced that they are going to change the workforce ratio to 70% freshers and 30% seniors. There are very few companies which value true talent in India. You have to fight and pay bribe to get anything that has interaction with a government organisation. Broken or no roads, fly over and metro that are taking years together to complete. As far as I am aware only very few percentage of people became rich in the IT boom of 90s but most of the people who went abroad during that period are well to do today (this from random sample among my relatives and friends).
One more article which goes on about how bad it is for women in India without suggesting any method of setting the wrong right. Women are also considered sacred but as goes for any religion, people take and interpret what they find suitable for themselves. The laws are there for namesake and enforced only when the perpetrator is from the lower rung of the society while powerful criminals go free. Also women from the economically and socially backward are not even aware of the protection the law guarantees them. We do not need one more article which goes on and on about how bad it is in India. We get that from the media everyday. We need practical solutions and discussions around it.
I once tried doing this. My colleague was very good at vim and I though I will watch him use it. It just left me very demotivated. The speed with which he was doing things - I could not keep up. At least for me it is better to learn at my own pace and forcing my self to use it again and again until I am comfortable.
That is scary... the website for the medicine I use seems to stress that it uses herbs over metal or minerals. Hope they are safe. But the fact that there is no central body which can check and authorise these medicines is a cause for concern.
A quick Google search throws up instance of people buying medicine on-line which contains arsenics. Is this not similar to how we get fake English medicines. I do not see any source which says that ayurveda advocates adding this. Can you link me to some relevant source?
I have been using medicines from arya vaidya sala one of the trusted ayurveda centres in India and never heard or had any issues.
Exactly what I was going to say. Wood burning stoves are very common especially in villages and also among poor people as wood is more widely available and is cheaper than LPG. We ourself have wood burning stove as an alternate to the LPG stove because cooking in slow fire on a stone or iron vessel is considered to produce tastier and healthier food.
I understood that wood smoke was harmful but that it contains carcinogens is new for me.
That is actually bus used for commuting within Bangalore city and belongs to BMTC. It is not a long distance bus and hence in no way relevant to redbus website!
Yes and India needs to balance the expectations of the poor and at the same time the middle class youth. These kind of stuff hopefully might inspire and prevent brain drain.
I think there is a major distinction between novels, VHS and the smartphone. Smartphone is an active distraction and is portable. This combination is what makes it more likely to be conversation killer than anything else. For me whenever I am talking to somebody and suddenly they open up their phone to see the message or attend a call, it just kills my flow of thoughts and flow of conversation.
http://imgur.com/XvK3kFY - the layout of the box is messed up in Firefox. Using Firefox version - 18.0.2. Works great in chrome though. Thanks for the nice tutorial!
With the Web version going to have an update every 3 months, I think setting up the foundation would have been higher priority. The improvements will keep coming in I hope.
A bit off topic, but are you sure Excel was the right tool for communicating with instruments, power point for simulating instrument front panel etc?
I think LabVIEW or any other appropriate tool with Excel used for data presentation would have been better.
The font you used for heading seems to be not working in my chrome browser. I have never had a problem with fonts before. Here is a screenshot http://i.imgur.com/N4xO9.jpg .
