You neglected to say that this does automatically determine the type instead of type checking as in the article.

You could also use python type hints for this stuff.

Here are some links about units in python:

Given that months have varying amounts of days, does it even make sense to have both dollars/month and dollars/day in the same setting? I would figure you would use either one or the other.

> Although it makes physical sense to add heights of daily climbs, there is no sense in adding altitudes.

What if I want to compute the average altitude? This requires adding altitudes.

Renting is fragile. The landlord decides how long you may stay. Ownership means being in control. I store things I like on my hard drives so I don't lose them when someone else decides it should no longer be available on the Internet .
tesdinger··on Code Is Not Technical Debt
If the features of a product are properly decoupled from each other, you can get comparable results to the situation where they haven't been added at all.
tesdinger··on Code Is Not Technical Debt
Often using a solution with many lines of code can be better, if it solves all the problems just by installing a finished product, even if it contains unnecessary parts, rather than a "keep it simple stupid" solution where you write only the needed parts yourself but have a lot more work to turn it into a tested and complete product. I don't use most of the protocols of my enterprise router but I won't write the routing protocols I need myself nor build a router myself, I just buy a router and ignore most of its features.

Reusing the outputs isn't universally possible because commands typed into bash generally aren't pure functions. You might have to run them again to get the current correct output. It's an interesting feature though.

Also, KDE Dolphin can run commands in the current folder.

You can get the history to last forever by appending history to a file.

This is the problem with SQL queries and Django Forms I am talking about

tesdinger··on How many lines of C it takes to execute a + b in Python
> I was briefly tempted to write an API-compatible reimplementation of Django with the core in C++ when I left Google, but by then Django (and server-side web programming) was already falling out of favor, and if you're just shipping JSON to a SPA you can use cjson with any number of fast wsgi or asgi gateways.

I like Django. I need to process data on the server side and like to write that in python because it is more convenient than C. I also built my GUI in Django without knowing JavaScript. "just shipping JSON" seems like a different use case.

I have a piece of hardware (a laboratory hardware switch) that exposes a REST API for CRUD. I wanted to build a GUI that formats and summarizes information and offers convenient control. The data is small enough so that python can process it without becoming the bottleneck. I used Django ORM to model the data and django forms with htmx for the GUI. Authentication was easily added to Django.

The ORM part was a bit painful as Django forms expect a queryset and a queryset is not be the result of a raw sql query. There is a way to feed list of tuples into a choices argument but I decided against that , and instead dumbed down my query so I was able to write it as an django ORM language query.

The classic theory of longer term investing is that you are providing capital to businesses and rewarded for that. That is a little bit different from being a middle man. My personal opinion though is that lending money/investing capital and capitalism in general is power. Money quantifies the potential of making other humans do things for you, it allows you to excercise power over fellow humans. Inheritance means you can inherit that power from your parents. It's not all that different from feudalism.

tesdinger··on Case study: Algorithmic trading with Go
> efficient markets are pointless

You are profiting off workers as a middle man in the economy by doing HFT, and trying the justify it by some vague concept of the "correct price". You are producing nothing of value, merely taking away value before someone else notices it is there.
