terpua··on Balsamiq, a bootstrapped startup featured here some time ago, makes $10k in 6 weeks
Balsamiq has come full circle (concept, dev, launch, business).
terpua··on The Coming Death Shortage
Didn't it happen with Mosaic :)

terpua··on Lost scenes of "Metropolis" rediscovered
+1 on M. I remember a scene where IDs where asked from everyone, perhaps Lang's commentary on nationalization/government control.

terpua··on Ask HN: Please review my webapp (Streetread)
Quick comments:

1) Ability to add our own news/blog sources (good for you to expand news sources) 2) Remove username from registration (I realize it's only one field but it's one field less to fill in and don't see the point to it) 3) Make news sources font smaller and in different color. If hyperlinked, it will go to the actual collection of articles from that news source.

Simple stock news engine for hobby investors. Useful app.

terpua··on Ask YC: What do you use for time and todo tracking?
http://unfuddle.com

Supports to-dos, milestones, time tracking and a notebook (simpler ver of wiki). It also supports Git and SVN.

terpua··on Bootstrappers Beware
Successful stories (bootstrapped or not) aren't the norm. Period.

Most (if not all) bootstrappers are optimistic (and thus willing to risk steady paying job) about their product(s). As are result, they think SS stories are the norm. This will sound strange but if you don't think that way, you will already have lost half the battle.

terpua··on Bootstrappers Beware
Here's a company that's a little over a year old with paying customers.

Solve a real problem and customers will pay.

terpua··on Ask YC: What services do start ups want taken care for them?
The necessary paperwork: accounting, legal, payroll.

terpua··on DocSyncer Shuts Down, Google Docs syncing - CEO: "no business model"
PG subscribes to the "build something people want" and "figure out business model" later.

The YCN community largely agrees with this mantra because it is much harder to build something people want than to find a business model.

Perhaps DocSyncer is an anomaly? Hmmm...Facebook, Friendster,...

terpua··on RIP, Tim Russert
We all have our opinions. We just happen to disagree. At least you gave yours.
terpua··on RIP, Tim Russert
He was the best interviewer I have seen. Fair to both sides of the aisle.

Will miss MTP without him.

terpua··on It Doesn't Have To Be All Or Nothing With A Startup
You should offer this tool as a visualization utility and allow for importing to Wordpress and Powerpoint.

Timelines are usually manually intensive to make "pretty" and automating that would be nice.

terpua··on Managing "Unproductive" Meetings
* But there is a lot of serendipity in this world and you never know when an unproductive meeting turns into a productive one.*

terpua··on Y Combinator's Versionate is Dead
I think it's the title here that PG is alluding to.
terpua··on Y Combinator's Versionate is Dead
The founder(s) have moved on to Zecter.
terpua··on Looking for non-technical cofounder
I recommend contacting Chris Messina [http://twitter.com/factoryjoe] and Tara Hunt [http://twitter.com/missrogue]. Tara wrote the book on "social capital" (i.e. community building).

terpua··on Why Tiered Broadband Is the Enemy of Innovation
More discussion here...

This is a major issue.

terpua··on Hometown or Startup Hub?
You have email, IM, etc. for that :)

IMHO, where you right now, I don't think that's a significant enough advantage. The costs of moving and living/working in SV is just not worth it at this stage.

terpua··on Hometown or Startup Hub?
The former - focus your initial time on building, getting users and feedback. If all is great, you will have a number of options, including going to SV.

Is there a specific reason why you want to go to SV first?

terpua··on 40GB for $55 per month: Time Warner bandwidth caps arrive
This kind of thinking is the major reason why America is behind in the mobile access market and true broadband access.

Ridiculous.
