The game has been kinda dead for a while now, because it's so unaccessible to the general population. Games like Dota and League of Legends have taken the place of Starcraft 2 because it's pretty accessible to newbies yet offers a very high skill ceiling for those who want to play competitively. Starcraft 2 is simply too difficult of a game - you have to micromanage not only whole armies but also create new buildings and new units, looking for ways to boost your economy, and micromanaging research, all at the same time. It's simply too much to ask for a new player looking to break into the game.
Dota existed because players just wanted to play a single hero inside an RTS game, and not have to control an army. The army is automated, there is no research, and there is no building/economy to worry about. You simply control one unit. Then League came and made it even more accessible to new players. Starcraft just simply cannot compete with both of these games, it just takes too much effort to even be remotely good at the game.
I have programmed twitch spam bots before (repeats what people say, once on each account with eight accounts), it's surprisingly easy to do. Twitch does have some sort of system to detect if you are abusing the API I think, because I noticed that I get timed out pretty quickly.
I doubt the `ping 8.8.8.8` was botnet though as its standard to test out your internet to see if you enabled it or not. Chat was trying to pacman -S something. People were encouraging others to type "ping 8.8.8.8"
In Vim I can just open up a 21mb db dump, do some regex to delete unwanted rows, and be done after a few seconds. Its amazing how vim can handle large files. I cannot imagine doing the same in Atom.
My 21 year old friend has had his parents take a big part in his life. He has upper middle class parents who watch his every move, sign him up for SAT tutors, force him to take piano lessons. Has no clue how to cook, found freshman year comp sci too hard and switched to communications and now philosophy major, has not really gotten good at anything in life. If I majored in Philosophy my parents would probably yell at me and not help with tuition. Probably will depend on his dad's connections to get an office job.
On one hand having a nice, loving parent would be nice. I am not as socially capable as some of my other friends who had loving parents. I am not as loving or caring as them. On the other hand, my parents' harshness and indifference helped me get used to the grittiness of real life and I'm glad for it.
