tejinderss··on Atlantic Ocean Circulation Could Collapse by 2050, Scientists Warn
The title says 2050 but the article states 2025 in first paragraph.

tejinderss··on Ask HN: What EU country has the highest developer salary?
And op will be paying more than 40% of his high compensation in rent only (in dublin/ cork / limrick)
tejinderss··on Ask HN: What EU country has the highest developer salary?
> it’s definitely Ireland

Crazy expensive housing, and lot of people cannot even find a place after 6 months moving into the country. Please if someone wants to move to ireland, research about housing first.

tejinderss··on Ask HN: What EU country has the highest developer salary?
> Ireland: High taxes, extreme dysfunction, crazy housing costs.

Totally agree with you on this. The country is on a verge of collapse, I have been trying to switch rental apartment and its been 6 months that i am sending my references and no one has even responded to me. If i get evicted from my place, i will have to move out of the country. Its mental, nothing works. My wife is waiting for her driving test date, she has applied online 3 months ago and she hasn’t even gotten a date yet. Same goes for most government services.

tejinderss··on Ireland will pay you $90K to move to a beautiful island home
But ireland will not provide adequate housing for its own people. Oopsie.
tejinderss··on A compact overview of JDK 21’s “frozen” feature list
Yeah i think extension functions and operator overloading are biggest things in kotlin that are missing in typescript. Its very easy to add functions to existing types and chain the method calls in kotlin.

Edit: didnt know about the brand types in typescript, TIL, thanks for the example.

tejinderss··on A compact overview of JDK 21’s “frozen” feature list
How about typescript? It supports union types, lambda functions and type aliases. Would you consider it on par with Kotlin?
tejinderss··on The Rust I wanted had no future
Or like ocaml with its module system and no explicit lifetimes / & type.
tejinderss··on Writing Python like it's Rust
> I can do almost all the dynamics things that I can do in Python with C#, but in a type safe way.

If you like flexibility with a good type system, give Typescript a try, its miles ahead of mypy and its designed by same person who’s behind C#.

tejinderss··on Show HN: I built a database GUI with ChatGPT integration
Do you mind telling where and why are you using rust?

Intel?
tejinderss··on If you're so good, why aren't you making 600k at BigTech?
Come to Ireland, non existing public transport and road infrastructure.
tejinderss··on The Python Paradox (2004)
You missed TypeScript, which has advanced generics with union support and the JS ecosystem is getting better each day and it’s ubiquitous.
tejinderss··on Ask HN: What are the best open source TypeScript projects I can learn from?
Similarly the typescript courses at http://executeprogram.com are pretty good.
tejinderss··on New in Go 1.20: wrapping multiple errors

And yet the std library is missing some basic data structures like Set.

tejinderss··on Using Rust at a startup: A cautionary tale
> I realize Go has at least some of these benefits, but its type system is hard for me to stomach

Can you elaborate on the issues of Go's type system?

tejinderss··on How to get started with Rust for Web Dev
A genuine question, why would someone choose Rust for web development instead of Typescript/nodejs? Most of the times the database is the bottleneck for web applications and nodejs will provide good enough performance for that. Also, typescript provides a good type system like Rust without the tedious need to manage memory with borrow checker.
tejinderss··on Don’t call it a comeback: Java is still champ
Nope, Mads Torgersen is lead architect on c# nowadays, Anders is 100% on Typescript's typechecker.
tejinderss··on Typeguard
typescript can infer it too:

  function main() {
      let words = [];
      for (const word of [...words, 'Hello']) {
          console.log(word);
      }
  }
tejinderss··on Open-sourcing the Sorbet VS Code Extension
Is there any source for that? Their public github profile shows that Go is their most preferred language these days.
tejinderss··on Why C# goes well with TypeScript
TypeScript is quite a different beast than c# (structural typing, union/intersection types, control flow analysis, emphasis on types manipulation (Partial, Record etc). Even the TypeScript compiler is not following OOP patterns (it's all functions with union types as polymorphism).
tejinderss··on Book Review: A Philosophy of Software Design (2020)
I am not sure who is the target audience of that book, but I think it's not practical. I respect the authors but the book has gone overboard with flexibility at the expense of good abstractions and design

tejinderss··on ESbuild – A fast JavaScript bundler and minifier in Go
Would you say go language is more fun to code in than rust ? How does it compare with nodejs and Typescript in terms of developer productivity ?
tejinderss··on Experience report on a large Python-to-Go translation
Especially with node.js/TypeScript one can reach similar performance to Go with arguably much nicer programming language to work with.
