Why not funding other good projects? There's plenty of better framework/libraries that are massively used by the community.
I'm, myself, leading a little node.js framework open source project with similar concepts and I'd never accept to be funded. This isn't a project, there's no revenue opportunities there, it's a tool!
Tools help to develop projects which then make a revenue...
Some investors have very poor judgement.
They took the other road, the road which is in my opinion the best and the wisest. You must work hard to get to your point, being funded is not working hard (opinions may vary that while you're funded you can focus on your project instead of money but I think this is a very good part of the startup concept).
Once again, Metalab inspires me, my projects are starting to get real and I'm doing it the Metalab's way. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one and that this method is successful as well. (I couldn't care less about having 4.2m or 500k, at least you have enough fund to back up your dreams and projects).
That was my 2cents. Keep up the good work guys!
Craigslist's a good idea, didn't thought of it! Thanks
Maybe re-inventing the wheel isn't bad after all, just need to re-invent it for those who weren't using it as a "wheel".
Thanks for sharing! Very good article!
I'm looking for small projects and where I currently live, they're pretty rare so that's why I'm looking online. But don't worry, I'm still looking offline as well! :-P
Thanks for sharing!
[sometimes, try to solve problems people don't even know exist yet.]
This is an amazing and interesting advice, thanks for pointing it out!
[No, not really. I've been working at night on projects for about 9 months and I'm just ...ready.]
This is where I'm heading, it's been 6 crazy months working at night, with the software engineer job I currently have on the day. But the time is coming soon, I feel more and more ready everyday, I have faith in me and my peers are pushing me to it as well, timing seems excellent I really can't wait! Focusing on my day job is becoming really, really hard hehe.
Thanks a lot, this is very helpful and I'll sure email you soon! Thanks again!
I like Jobs as well, kind of hard on people but he had an idea and followed it to the end and that's remarkable.
They [started to] (some may say they always did) imitate other successful services, some with success and some with huge failures (many of their social network attempts have been failures).
But since about a year, it seems like they're turning from the "good guys" to the "bad guys". They try to kick every successful company out of their specializations. (Kick Facebook with Google+, Kick Spotify with Google Music, Kick Dropbox with Google Drive, etc).
I really hate the way they're taking to always get more and more of our data. Sorry Google but after almost ten years of service, I'm currently moving all my data somewhere else.
More branches = more employees = almost automatic administration = more money.
Those are only my opinions, therefore not facts.
