tarancato··on Pixel smartphone camera review: At the top
How do you know that? I find it weird that three different mobiles from three different manufacturers use exactly the same camera.
tarancato··on The cost of forsaking C
Undefined behaviour is not as prevalent in real world code as reading articles from HN might make you think.
tarancato··on Behind the Pixel: Google’s First Real Threat to Apple’s iPhone
>The other day I lost my phone so I typed "where is my phone" into google. It showed me immediately. How many passwords do you have to type and licences to accept to do that on your Apple cloud?

You'll miss the passwords the day your wife turns the home computer on, googles that and finds out you're in some other woman's house. All without passwords or licences. ;P

No, they won't.
tarancato··on NoScript is harmful and promotes malware
I am sure more sites would work with IE6 than with the default configuration of NoScript.
tarancato··on NoScript is harmful and promotes malware
A honest thought: the typical user of NoScript won't fall for those ads, I think.
tarancato··on NoScript is harmful and promotes malware
Before providing a "tldr" please read the article.
tarancato··on When world leaders thought you shouldn't need passports or visas
Nobody just "deserves" anything [just for being born. Someone has to work hard for everything]
tarancato··on When world leaders thought you shouldn't need passports or visas
No they do not deserve anything they and their ancestors haven't worked for. Nobody just "deserves" anything.
tarancato··on When world leaders thought you shouldn't need passports or visas
The ancestors of that pussy in Paris built an advanced society with equal rights, education, respect, etc. That's why people born from a French pussy deserve that, while people from other societies do not.

Is it our fault that other people that have had the same hundreds of years to build advanced societies haven't done it? Do we have to literally live worse because of it?

tarancato··on Online music distribution companies may not want Creative Commons music
>capitalism pushed to its extream is harmful to humanity. Just look at junk food to convince yourself if you aren't yet.

I've always seen McDonald's regarded as one of the heralds of capitalism, and I still can't find out why.

tarancato··on How Twitter deploys its widgets JavaScript
Problem with these is that many caching proxies consider all resources with a query string to be dynamically generated and won't cache them at all, which in the case of js/css/etc is bad
tarancato··on EU wants Google to stop anti-competitive Android practices, fine expected
Essential code such as what? Can't you boot AOSP without installing the Google apps?
tarancato··on EU wants Google to stop anti-competitive Android practices, fine expected
>AOSP has been a dead dream for a while now due to carriers locking down phones

That's only in the US.

Let's be honest here, AOSP is a dead dream because porting and maintaining AOSP for a device is kinda complicated. Many people do it for free, but you can't rely on that.

tarancato··on EU wants Google to stop anti-competitive Android practices, fine expected
There are three approaches:

1. Create a browser with ad blocking builtin or possible with addons (like Firefox).

2. Create a local proxy that blocks ads, and make the user configure it as the system proxy.

3. Require root privileges and do whatever you want (2, or maybe change /etc/hosts, like AdAway does). Yes, there are tons of apps in the Play Store that only work with root. Google never cared much about them.

Your dishwasher potentially flooding your house doesn't sound bad enough to you?

What if you have wood floors? What if water shorted electrical devices? All of this could cost you thousands in repairs.

tarancato··on Bringing Pokémon GO to life on Google Cloud
I remember the server application being written in Java. At least, it was served using Jetty.

tarancato··on Facebook Ordered to Stop Collecting Data on WhatsApp Users in Germany
Just a small heads up, WhatsApp supports installing the apk file directly without going through the Play Store. https://www.whatsapp.com/android/
tarancato··on Mozilla has stopped all commercial development on Firefox OS
So you tell me it's reasonable that a frozen tab makes the whole browser unresponsive. Nice.
tarancato··on Mozilla has stopped all commercial development on Firefox OS
I have an easy metric for that: when you're navigating, look at the "loading" spinner on the tab bar, and see how it almost always freezes every time a page is being drawn.

DOM painting/manipulation times in Gecko are a joke, probably the worst pain point of Firefox. And it's not the only one...

tarancato··on Mozilla has stopped all commercial development on Firefox OS
If you think FF is responsive, there are two options: 1) you haven't compared it to Chrome/WebKit/Edge, or 2) you don't run heavy applications such as TweetDeck on it.

And FF-OS was a complete OS that ran on Gecko, so yes, if Gecko (FF) is slow, the entire FF-OS is slow.

tarancato··on Mozilla has stopped all commercial development on Firefox OS
Seriously... I avoid Firefox on my (rather beefy) desktop because of how much it freezes. I don't want to imagine how it worked on a 50€ phone, which looked like it was their target.

Maybe they thought Gecko would be ready by the time the OS was going to ship?

tarancato··on WoSign and StartCom: Mozilla’s proposed conclusion
I don't think net neutrality is a good idea. I also have far-right ideas, while they have repeatedly expressed themselves to be liberal.

I'm not the kind of person who believes in boycotting (especially in this case, where I'd be all alone it seems :-) but if I could avoid them, I would. If not, no biggie.

tarancato··on WoSign and StartCom: Mozilla’s proposed conclusion
They are a political organisation and their ideas conflict with mine. I don't keep a strong boycott on them, but I don't want to support their products, that's all.
tarancato··on WoSign and StartCom: Mozilla’s proposed conclusion
I don't like the EFF, but I guess I will have to use Let's Encrypt if there's no other option.
tarancato··on WoSign and StartCom: Mozilla’s proposed conclusion
So I don't like Let's Encrypt, if Mozilla "kills" WoSign/StartCom, what are my options if I want a cert for free?
