tallgiraffe··on Ask HN: Dark mode for HN please?
Great point. Our environmental factors are so easy to forget. I do use a very high contrast monitor and definitely prefer pastel colors at night, so my eyes dont hurt, but now I can clearly see how someone with low contrast wont' see a damn thing.

There is a solution, but it's a bit more complicated and requires introducing additional user preferences. Supply two color options in the css, and allow user to choose high/low brightness.

HN already has some profile filters, so adding one more might not be a problem, but I can also see how it becomes a slipper-slope of new features.

Love this. One addition, consider reducing the brightness on text so it doesn't glare as much.
tallgiraffe··on Extremely disillusioned with technology. Please help
This whole thread, and your comment in particular, resonates. At the very least, knowing this might be the unspoken norm, rather than a personal challenge, that alone helps a ton.
tallgiraffe··on Twitter kills off SMS notifications and posting in most countries
Wow, it’s been more than 10 years since twitter was born. Can’t believe they’ve been running txt based version for this long. Does it mean the mobile web has finally penetrated enough countries where browsing is as cheap and accessible as text?
tallgiraffe··on Ask HN: I want to resign with nothing lined up
You are two years out of college with a good amount of savings. Now is as good of a time to quit as it ever will be. You are not going to have more time or less responsibilities going forward.
tallgiraffe··on All models are wrong, but some are completely wrong
Absolutely true. The amount of bogus science being shared is astonishing. Yet, almost no one seems to notice, care or demand better. All that’s said in the article should be, but personally I’ve lost all hope. We might be living through a generation that values TikTok And click bait more than truth, and it won’t end well, but that’s where we are heading.
tallgiraffe··on Wavve: making $76k a month turning podcasts into videos
Exactly what I was looking for lately. Thank you!
tallgiraffe··on Being a Noob
Disagree. It’s very important for people feeling like “noobs” to realize that it’s okay, even desired. PG is a legend and have him clearly state so is refreshing, and necessary.
tallgiraffe··on Off-Facebook activity
In case of Facebook, one has to wonder, is this a move towards consumer privacy, or a way for Facebook to clear cache so they could build a more up to date profile of you.
tallgiraffe··on Epic Tells Customers It Will Stop Google Cloud Integrations
I feel like Google is an everything company. Traditionally EHR has been done via enterprise and connections, but it doesn’t mean google can’t change it. In fact, they could open a network of Google hospitals, and run their own software on them, or buy a big chain. Much like Amazon got WholeFoods, Google can get into the game if they choose to, and at the end of the day, if they want to grow, they will have to find more avenues to expand to.
tallgiraffe··on Epic Tells Customers It Will Stop Google Cloud Integrations
Epic is ruthless and takes competition out by any means necessary. They are a dinosaur that avoided competition for decades, and Google is a massive thread. This is good news because they are scared, and Google has an infinite runaway to take them out. Epic should have worked tirelessly to innovate and improve US healthcare, but instead chose to stay still and to profit. They won’t be for long.
