synu··on Promotion of alternative social platforms policy
I wasn’t able to find anyone I know, and the incoming discovery feeds were people I didn’t know anything about talking about stuff I wasn’t interested in. Overall it was just really quiet and felt empty. Maybe this means I joined the wrong server, not sure. Eventually it seems someone deleted the server I was on, I am not sure if I can do anything about that or not.

When I first joined Twitter it seemed like more people I knew where there, so that initial bootstrapping was a lot easier.

I have a Mastodon, for what it’s worth, but never really figured out how to find a community that resonates with me. It’s quite possible I’m using it wrong in some way.
synu··on Promotion of alternative social platforms policy
I more mean “on various occasions over the last several years”
synu··on Promotion of alternative social platforms policy
I’ve definitely linked to my profiles on other sites before and never been banned or even warned.

I don’t know if he lied or not but I get the impression he doesn’t have any particular plan, and is just doing / saying whatever comes to mind at any given moment. Who knows, but from the outside it comes across that way.
synu··on Promotion of alternative social platforms policy
I’m excited to check it out, signed up for the waiting list today.

Maybe they should try letting Kanye run it next.
synu··on Promotion of alternative social platforms policy
Not the kind of policy I imagine you’d need to put in place if you thought you had a product that was competing well.
synu··on Deepmind’s AlphaCode conquers coding, performing as well as humans
It must be relatively easier though to be a discerning consumer than having the ability to produce something yourself (without using AI?)
synu··on How does GPT obtain its ability? Tracing emergent abilities of language models
Thanks for that!
synu··on How does GPT obtain its ability? Tracing emergent abilities of language models
Would you mind expanding on it a bit? I do sincerely appreciate its pithiness, but curious to read it explained a bit further.
synu··on Cognitive ability is a powerful predictor of political tolerance
That’s fair.
synu··on Cognitive ability is a powerful predictor of political tolerance
You could spend your whole life entertaining flat earthers if you like, but why?
synu··on Show HN: Whole Git repo was made with ChatGPT
I also wonder what the effect of more and more model outputs being fed back in as inputs will be.
synu··on Cognitive ability is a powerful predictor of political tolerance
I seem to find the opposite, that people appear to be admired and build audiences based on how much they can troll or generally how nasty they can be to whichever rival group. People aren’t avoiding each other to stay in safe, happy and positive bubbles, it’s more like rival football club ultras out to kill each other.
synu··on Ruby adds a core class called Data to represent simple immutable value objects
That can be true, though it can also be a sort of cheap way to sound smart in a group of smart people.

synu··on Lab-Grown Meat Is Safe to Eat, FDA Says
This visualisation was an eye opener. https://justone.earth/food/

Perhaps an individual animal suffering is less compared to a wild death, but the sheer volume has to count for something.

synu··on Narcissistic Collapse
IMHO it’s worth bothering to disagree with people who espouse all those things.
synu··on Narcissistic Collapse
Whatever works for you, I’m just some guy on the internet. All I was trying to say is that I think it’s unlikely real leadership correlates with narcissistic collapse. I’m not trying to debate you about your personal life, capitalism, misdiagnosis of celebrities, or any other topic if it came across that way.
synu··on Narcissistic Collapse
It’s true, similarly people self-diagnosing their parents or other family members and friends as narcissists seems to be a quite common and probably unhealthy recent trend as well.

In this case though I wasn’t saying the people calling this leadership are narcissists, but I do think it’s a sign they are confused that the behaviours they are calling leadership are also symptoms of a narcissistic meltdown.

synu··on Narcissistic Collapse
Funny enough, all traits I’ve seen described as “real leadership” recently on Twitter.
synu··on Narcissistic Collapse
Only two? It seems most celebrities are going through something like this near constantly. Or at least they are simulating it since the drama attracts more views, reinforcing the celebrity.
synu··on FTX owned an $11.5M stake in a tiny rural bank in Washington state
I read it as it was so insignificant they didn’t schedule a car to map the whole town in the first place.
synu··on Why is the state of mathematics education so abstract and uninspiring?
I always thought that mathematics would be a much more interesting subject if it was taught along with the history at the early stages, like other sciences are.
synu··on ‘Some things never leave you’: Poverty’s indelible marks
I wish there were more founders and investors who came from a background of intense poverty. I know why there aren’t many, and I know why the ones who are don’t speak about it, but because nobody talks about it everyone has to figure out how to “pass” and how not to fall into certain traps on our own, and there isn’t any systemic support out there. Or if there is/there are people talking about it, I’m just not aware.
synu··on High-documentation, low-meeting work culture
You really have to be religious about enforcing a single source of truth for any information and this gets a lot better.
synu··on High-documentation, low-meeting work culture
At my company we make all meetings optional, this really helps create the right incentives both for hosts and attendees. As a result we have very few meetings, but the ones we have work well. https://www.synura.com/handbook/general/meetings/#all-non-11...

Usually also highly upvoted because it sounds right.
