You can, you have to use firefox's built in screenshot tool- not the system-wide one.

> Why would I want to?

To share with friends, to make memes, to record notable scenes/moments in media you like. There are many reasons to want to screenshot streaming media

You can if you use firefox ;)
syncbehind··on Best App for Budgeting?
Oh wow, no idea. But that's definitely a big red flag.
syncbehind··on Best App for Budgeting?
Can...you elaborate on this?
syncbehind··on Current thoughts on social media
What concerns/thoughts do you have that prevent you from doing so?
syncbehind··on Ask HN: How and how much do you sleep?
Don't be. Those undersleeping are needlessly taxing their bodies which has short term and long term consequences.

When you're young, you probably can brute-force through those, but it'll catch up with you.

syncbehind··on Ask HN: What companies have blown you away with their customer support?
How are they for auto? I've been in the market for a new insurance (I usually do both auto/home because it tends to have discounts)
syncbehind··on Ask HN: How do you discover new things on the internet in 2023?
What a nice find that you can access the pinboard popular page despite not being logged in!

I've long supported pinboard, but after the site went black a few times and the dev just completely nonresponsive, I moved to raindrop.io. But moving to raindrop, this was one of the things that I really missed from pinboard.

Thanks!

syncbehind··on On Keeping a Logbook (2010)
I enjoyed using that. I eventually moved to just carrying a travel notebook though. A bit more bulk, but a lot less likely to just up and lose it.
syncbehind··on Netflix adds 9M new subscribers as it cracks down on password-sharing
It really is. It handles father-son struggles really well. There's a few episodes I have to skip because I can't deal with that dynamic (too similar to my own).

Great mix of humor and serious issues- very wholesome.

>It's so easy to sign up my 67 year old mother can do it.

Casual ageism is awesome.

syncbehind··on Grayjay – Follow Creators Not Platforms
It can be against the ToS, but ToS aren't legally enforceable in a court of law.
syncbehind··on Omnivore – free, open source, read-it-later App
Oh great, this sounds like something I'd be interested in. I use logseq + raindrop. Omnivore seems to support that as well.

Thank you!

syncbehind··on Invidious – An open source alternative front-end to YouTube
I mean, it's open source. Don't like it? You can fork it and create something better.

How does this compare to Raindrop.io?

Oh yea, my kidney definitely died because of a lack of willpower. Indubitably.

syncbehind··on New Feature: Self-Extracting Zip Files Added to SingleFile
I can't speak more highly of this extension. It is phenomenal for academic work and research in general. The developer also worked closely with zotero (citation manager) and it uses the technology to archive articles you cite.
syncbehind··on Ask HN: What book has been most influential in your life?
Obligatory disclaimer that influential does not, with it, come a positive connotation.
syncbehind··on Ask HN: Effective Biohacks for Long Covid?
Increases the odds yes, but needs to be controlled for that to actually determine causation.

You shouldn't conclude that based on the study and you -certainly- should not be giving health advice as if that were the truth.

syncbehind··on Ask HN: How to get that fire in the belly back?
The other comments here have mainly added what I had wanted to stay. Particularly what ironlake said about climbing to another level fo Maslow's hierarchy of needs. So I will approach this question from a different point of view. On the aspect of motivation: It seems like the reasons you had for pushing were externally focused (going to get into the big leagues). But what motivates you internally? Why chase those habits? Those habits existed to serve you at a different point in your life. Ask yourself why you feel the need to chase the same you as back then. You can sustain a roaring fire for only a short term, perhaps you need to look for habits that can sustain embers that burn for much longer.

The other thing I want to state is that complacency and ungratefulness are not feelings. They are thoughts. Perhaps you are feeling insecure (I am no longer improving my skills) or feeling bored (I have nothing more to learn here). Note that the phrases in the parentheses are thoughts and not feelings. It's all too common for us to substitute feeling when we really mean thinking. Similarly,we fool ourselves into thinking that our rational thought precedes our feelings; it does not. Your cerebral cortex activates after your Limbic. You feel things first, and then your cerebral cortex uses your past experiences to attempt to provide context (loosely speaking).

So I'd really ask you, why those feelings are and how you've processed them? Often if we're externally focused, we dull our interospective awareness.

The buzzwordy solution to this is do mindfulness meditation! Honestly though, you don't need to meditate. Just do things that you're able to practice being mindful.

syncbehind··on Ask HN: What software did you purchase that positively impacted your family life
Recently learned that my insurance pays for Noom subscriptions. I've been using that, and have found it to be similarly beneficial for myself. Have you used that one before?

I'd never heard of macrofactor until now.

syncbehind··on Ask HN: What software did you purchase that positively impacted your family life
I really REALLY wish TickTick had a two-way calendar sync with anything. That's the one thing keeping me with Todoist. I think they were talking about implementing it eventually. Did this ever come to fruition?
syncbehind··on Pixel 8 Pro
I wonder if the audio magic eraser feature will make it to older pixel phones. That and the best-shot one seemed very interesting.

It also seems very arbitrarily limited to the newer ones, 7/7pro seem like they should be more than capable of driving these features.

Is software limiting going to be the norm going forward for phones?

Because, I don't think this is worth upgrading from last years phones from a hardware basis.

Perhaps, we've reached a point in smartphones where the development cycles will be more iterative, instead of truly groundbreaking.

syncbehind··on Ask HN: How do you manage photos, philosophically?
Unless, of course, you take pictures very mindfully vs. just taking snapshots. I think the ease of which we can take photos now makes it very easy to cheapen photography. But we can still bring ourselves to be very present and mindful when doing so.

But if you're out there and your intent isn't to take a picture (but you're doing so anyway), I agree that'd also take me out out of the moment and reduce enjoyment of things.

syncbehind··on Ask HN: How do you manage photos, philosophically?
I used to have a limit of 3-4 photos a day (or one photo per event that day). If I took more than that, I would go through and delete the others. That's changed a bit since I started WFH.

The concept for me was that the point of the photo was to remind me of the event/ memory, and one photo did that for me. If I had 10-20-30 photos from a day or an event, I found that I was not mindful of each individual photo and just glanced at them (ignoring details and remembering memories). With a limited photo option, I was forced into mindfulness more. The added benefit, of course, was that it resulted in a conservative use of my phone's storage.

As for backup, I have syncthing running on my phone. It copies my photos into my laptop which funnel it into a time-machine storage and I have it up on google - photos. I would like to add one more syncthing instance (preferably out of my home) for redundancy, but that's about it for now. Maybe I'll start burning them on optical media or SD-Cards, once I have kids.

syncbehind··on Tell HN: macOS Bartender disables features, forcing users to buy license again
In this case bartender isn't disabling features, Apple is. The "disturbing item" is a feature of the new OS.

I get feeling. But you should point fingers where deserved.
