symisc_devel··on Machine learning can run on tiny, low-power chips
Correct. Powerful enough embedded devices are now defacto everywhere. We just released an open source computer vision and machine learning library developed initially for a French conglomerate specialized in IOT devices.

The library is cross platform, support real-time, multi-class object detection and model training on embedded systems with limited computational resource and IoT devices.

It depends on your dataset. For example, a single class (face, pedestrian or car) object detection model with ten of thousands of positive samples should take at least 18 hours to complete on a modern Intel CPU with a target FPR (false positive rate) set to 0.00001. The lower the fpr is, the more training time is required.

Well, you can train your own models on the CPU for real-time object detection tasks using the SOD ML library we just released recently

The library is cross platform and should compile fine on most modern architectures.

symisc_devel··on Wapp – a single-file web framework by the creator of SQLite
Note that Hipp before working on SQLite was a member of the TCL core board and wrote something similar in the early 2001: A database-driven web server in a self-contained executable named TWS where dynamic content is served from TCL.

Curious to know if this C application server is an open project or home crafted closed code?
symisc_devel··on Fred's ImageMagick Scripts
For those interested we implemented from scratch a subset of these commands as a REST API service available to call at request from any programming language.

symisc_devel··on Hidden work when launching a SaaS
> You need to handle payments, and invoices and everything inbetween

Back to July 2017, when we launched PixLab[1], we opted for Paddle[2] since implementing billing, invoices, purchase orders, refunds, etc. was the last thing we want to code from scratch. We were a small team of C/C++ engineers and ML scientists with no clue on billings.

Not only Paddle did handle all the payment stack smoothly, they do also offer Paypal in the same payment modal which was a great boost for our sales since most Europeans customers prefer to use that method. One drawback is that they took 5% for each sale/subscription instead of the 2.9% that Stripe takes.

symisc_devel··on Ask HN: Have you regretted making something open-source?
Not regretting it, but open sourcing our embedded PHP engine PH7[1] did hurt our sales (I think) when some Chinese company started abusing the software by embedding it in their hardware without paying any license fee (The software is dual licensed and require a commercial license for closed source code). I have a indirect proof of that abuse but starting a lawsuit against a Chinese co won't lead to any result?

symisc_devel··on Ask HN: What API do you wish you had while building your product?
https://pixlab.io/#/cmdls is shipped with a lot of media processing API endpoints such as blur, scale, grayscale, and so on plus being an S3 proxy.
symisc_devel··on Swift architecture at Uber
The technique is known as Amalgamation and was first introduced in the SQLite2 source tree. In my company were we do embedded software[1], this shown to be a powerful technique. Not only, the compilation is extremely fast (A 1.3 megabytes of C code, took 9 seconds to compile on a core I3), but a modern compiler will be able to do additional optimizations on code when it is contained with in a single translation unit.

symisc_devel··on Ask HN: What are some examples of good code?
SQLite/Fossil source tree is a piece of art, practically every single function is well commented, written in clean C, easy to read. DRH has done an astonishing work. I'm impressed by his work. In my company where we do embedded C, the programming style is based on him. https://github.com/symisc/

Really you're blaming the wrong app here, ads were all disabled and in the previous version, only one ad were shown each 5 minutes or so

symisc_devel··on Show HN: Who Is Hiring Android App That Pulls Listing from HN, Angel, Lever, SE
Author Here: Basically, we pull listing from HN, StackExchange, Angel, Lever, etc. We index them by types (Remote, Fulltime, Freelance, etc.), Langaugaes (Ruby, Node, etc.), Frameworks, database, location, etc. so that you can filter & search for what you want. We also translate the location to GPS position (lat, lng) so that you got the listing nearby.
symisc_devel··on Show HN: Libcox – A C Library for Cross-Platform System Calls
no need to release a new version by a adding a new public API function each time a command is added. You would simply create a new foreign command in your application, register it via libcox_register_command()[1] without modifying the library core.

String escaping follows the same rules of C/C++ or you could use the str_escape command to do job for you.
symisc_devel··on Show HN: Libcox – A C Library for Cross-Platform System Calls
Hi, this is due to the fact that zDir may contain spaces especially under windows which confuse the command processor to interpret it as multiple arguments and not a single one as with single or double quotes (http://libcox.net/arch.html)
symisc_devel··on PH7 – An Embedded Implementation of PHP (C Library)
Yes, most of the built-in functions (over 470) are foreign C/C++ functions installed exactly using the same interface: ph7_create_function();
symisc_devel··on PH7 – An Embedded Implementation of PHP (C Library)
SQLite style: The amalgamation is a single C code file, that contains all C code for the core. With one big unit, the compiler can perform several smart optimizations that cannot be done if the source code was split between different C files.
