Sempre Health | Software Engineer | San Francisco, CA | Full-time | Onsite eventually (remote for now)

Sempre Health uses dynamic pricing + SMS to reduce patients’ out-of-pocket spend on drugs. 1 in 3 patients skips taking their meds because they are too expensive. We’re on a mission to fix that. Patients receive texts like, “If you pick up your rx by Sunday you’ll pay $20. If you wait until next week, this goes up to $30.” Then, wherever they fill, Sempre’s integrations with the pharmacy switch, ensure they get the right price.

The product we’re building helps patients afford medications they need. As our fourth engineer, you will have both autonomy and responsibility. You will decide and own the most important projects. You will design new products and features from scratch, get team buy-in, implement, and deploy. You will work cross functionally with patient operations, data science, and business development teams to deliver and see the impact of your high impact products. We won’t add significant process, checks, and balances to your flow - we trust each other to produce high quality work.

Two roles

- Senior Software Engineer: https://boards.greenhouse.io/semprehealth/jobs/4013266004

we have fallen back to discord for work today. Obviously the terms/security controls are not a great permanent solution, but it's a great fallback for real-time chat across all devices
swaraj··on Netlify CDN Outage
Fortunately (or non-optimally), our DNS TTLs were 300s (Route 53 default) so our sites were not fully accessible off Zeit for ~5 mins. This wasn't too bad given that our sites were completely inaccessible from Netlify.

One day when we're bigger, we'll extend those TTLs

swaraj··on Netlify CDN Outage
We're definitely staying on Netlify after this outage is done. We pay for some of their enterprise features, e.g. audit logs. We just need our sites up right now and zeit was a fast, temporary alternative
swaraj··on Netlify CDN Outage
This affects us too. We were able to migrate to zeit now in ~30 mins.

Sempre Health | Senior Software Engineer | SF | Onsite | https://www.semprehealth.com/

To apply, email swaraj@semprehealth.com

What is Sempre: Sempre Health is bringing dynamic pricing to healthcare, beginning with medications. 1 in 3 patients skips taking their meds because they are too expensive. We're on a mission to fix that. Our product is live with patients, and we already have revenue from two Fortune 500 companies. Our team of 5 is closing our Series A to rapidly expand to cover more patients and medications.

Why work here?: Work on something that matters - the product we’re building helps patients afford medications they need. As our sixth teammate and third engineer you’ll have both autonomy and responsibility. You will decide and own the most important projects.

What you’ll work on: you’ll work all across the stack from backend python microservices to React web apps. Projects include:

• Alex: our homegrown CMS we use to decide what we communicate to patients, how to handle inbound communication, and trigger events

• Pricing and pharmacy integrations: iterate on our incentive-based pricing algorithm to calculate the optimal price for each patient and integrate with the US pharmacy switch to deliver that price to any pharmacy in the country

• Admin tool: our web app for patient management allows us to track program progress and prioritize interventions for the most at-risk patients

• Security: we are HIPAA compliant, and treat security as a first-class feature in all our products

At Sempre, we're building individualized healthcare pricing, helping patients save thousands of dollars every year on medications. We raised $2.5M from Social Capital last summer, have revenue from 2 fortune 100 customers, and and are focusing now on scaling. We currently work with hundreds of patients, but will soon be launching programs that impact tens of thousands of lives.

swaraj··on Google's “Director of Engineering” Hiring Test
Completely agree with you. Seems more like a personality mismatch, than a lack of technical skills.

Seems like both parties were at fault here:

- The interviewee for being a little brusque about his answers, and despite understanding the _intention_ of the question, giving potentially off-putting, difficult answers to check over a quick phone call.

- Google recruiter for seeming to ask questions she/he was a little out of her/his league to ask. If you don't understand the nuances in and around the questions you're asking, you are not qualified to evaluate someone's responses.

Wouldn't worry about any one particular interview, there are too many great opportunities in tech right now to let any one bad interview let you down!

Sempre Health | San Francisco (SOMA) | Lead Backend Engineers | Full Time | https://semprehealth.com/

Sempre Health is changing how Americans pay for healthcare. My co-founder & I are both Berkeley grads and just closed a $2.5M seed round. We are looking for senior backend engineers as our first technical hires. The digital health space is blowing up, and this is an opportunity to use technology for good as well as get in on the ground floor.

1 in 3 patients skips care because it's too expensive. These patients go on to be less healthy & more costly to the health system overall. Sempre Health is bringing behavior-based pricing to healthcare. Patients receive texts like, "If you fill your Lipitor rx today, you'll pay $5. If you wait till next week, you'll pay your normal $15"

We parse millions of prescription records to identify unique patient behaviors. We use this data to predict & seamlessly deliver the right price for the right patient to every pharmacy in the country.

semprehealth.com | San Francisco, CA | Full-time | Onsite

Position: Backend Software Engineer

Sempre Health is bringing behavior-based, dynamic pricing to healthcare, beginning with medications.

Similar to a "good driver discount", insured patients can drive their own copays down with healthy behaviors. Through integrations with pharmacy systems and claims adjudicators, price is seamlessly delivered to patients at the point of fill. This increases access to care for the 1 in 3 patients who underutilize due to cost barriers and drive a disproportionate amount of spend.

We believe that bright people should work on the most important problems. Get in touch if you are excited to use technology for good, while building a digital health startup from the ground up.

Holy shit, this is amazing. I'm really into electronic music, and when I am listening to new music online (youtube, music blogs, etc.) I don't always take the time to download songs right then. Instead, I simply record the artist and title in a txt file. I uploaded my electro.txt file to roll.io and out came a perfect playlist for all the music (~500 songs) I liked, but haven't downloaded.

This is awesome

swaraj··on Where can I find great/new programming tech talks?
Thanks, infoq looks really helpful
swaraj··on Where can I find great/new programming tech talks?
That's a good point, but as I was looking over some of the chapters of the highest-rated books, they seemed to be teaching mostly high-level, abstract concepts and ideas without discussing specific technologies or tools. I don't want to come off as naive for dismissing books like these, but a significant part of my CS education in college has used some of these textbooks and I wanted to learn more about specific technologies and services.

I feel most inadequate reading about how start-ups are using actual new technologies like AWS or Couchbase. It seems as if tech talks often provide a good overview of the applications and constraints of new technologies. So given the fact that I do not really have any idea what specific projects I will be working on in the future, I feel that having at least a general overview of what tools are available will prove to be useful.
