suriya-ganesh··on Stephen Fry – AI: A Means to an End or a Means to Our End?
The type of propulsion is not, though. Nothing in nature has 360° rotatory motion. Airplane is not an exact simulation of a bird. Only an approximation

I'm a Privacy Engineer on my last semester at Carnegie Mellon University.

I was a Senior Systems Engineer in Bangalore India Before coming here to specialize in privacy. I'm a self-taught Software Engineer, developing software since I was 15.

I'm looking for __Exciting Early to late stage Startups__ to work on. I love building beautiful new things and have been working in the privacy space for the last 3 years. I've built Polymorphic Encryption based Privacy vault and Federated Learning Platforms. Suffice to say, I love hard technical problems and to dig deep.

I love talking with people. Interested in Privacy Engineering? Privacy Preserving Machine Learning? Secure Multi Party Computation? or want to discuss about how bad htmx is? I'd love to talk with you!!! https://calendly.com/surya-gan. :)

This is a weird take. The paren comment said that, the Internet will not be the same with LLM generated slop. You're differentiating between LLM generated content and LLM + human combination.

Both will happen, with dire effects to the internet as a whole.

suriya-ganesh··on Show HN: Turn voice messages to beautiful journals
Notion, recently published a blog saying they have 200 Billion blocks stored in their postgres instances with hundreds of terabytes stored.

My guess is that the average user does not care/think about privacy, breaches etc. that much.

suriya-ganesh··on Show HN: Turn voice messages to beautiful journals
I think about this often. Because I'm a privacy engineer.

It does feel weird to ship all your voice and private thoughts to a remote server.

But how different is it really, than people using notion to journal?

My guess is that it's going to be more and more normalized to have personal voice based communication.

suriya-ganesh··on As an Employee, You Are Disposable (2023)
Employment are an adversarial relationship of convenience

Given the chance, both parties would expect the other party be loyal while they optimize for something better than what they have.

suriya-ganesh··on Show HN: I made a Note-Taking app for people who keep texting themselves
Discord is much much slower than the telegram client IMO
suriya-ganesh··on Ask HN: Is there any software you only made for your own use but nobody else?
I've written a bunch of web apps, extensions and bots to help me with tasks, taking notes on articles and books.

This. + Hastiness and overconfidence. When you do it over a long stretch of time, you try to stretch the limits occasionally
suriya-ganesh··on Google Earning Q1 2024 [pdf]
This might surprise people a lot. In developing countries Google is synonymous with internet. A lot of even young, people have a mental model of the internet as a subset of Google.
suriya-ganesh··on Depression Rates by Country 2024
I'm from a very small farming family in India. In less developed economies, people are not constantly working. They're only constantly worried.

There's usually not enough work for everyone to go around. So everyone only does the bare minimum required to stay afloat.

This is a slightly different aspect than the "poverty" I'm seeing in the US.

Your point still stands though. More time creates more depression, which is why I believe depression in less developed countries would be higher.

suriya-ganesh··on Depression Rates by Country 2024
> "While the numbers listed above (and below) are valuable and vital, it is important to keep in mind that the true rates are likely much higher, especially in less developed countries. Depression is much more likely to be diagnosed in highly developed countries, whose more robust health care infrastructures are far better equipped to identify and treat mental illnesses."

This is an important quote from the article, before naively interpreting the results.

suriya-ganesh··on More Agents Is All You Need: LLMs performance scales with the number of agents

And et voila, you have the script of inside out. \s

But honestly I do think this is how we operate. Depending on our state of metabolism and other psychological factors, the dominant version changes but as a whole we remain the sum total of all these versions.
