The article mentions both males and females take their pictures.
supergreg··on Facebook's Zuckerberg discloses steps to fight fake news
Should a tool trying to fight fake news make any distinctions?
supergreg··on Miyazaki Tribute
Satoshi Kon was an amazing director and all his movies are great. I hope they manage to finish his last movie.
supergreg··on Visual Studio for Mac
I just started looking into Xamarin Forms and couldn't figure if it was just blindly typing xaml or there was a way to preview it. Thanks for the posts.
supergreg··on LessPass: sync-less open source password manager
We had this conversation when it was md5 vs sha2 and concluded sha2 was good enough. What changed?
supergreg··on LessPass: sync-less open source password manager
Maybe you can put the whole .pass directory inside an encfs directory.

Encryption all the way down.

supergreg··on A Map of the World Won Japan’s Prestigious Design Award
The article mentions the map "aims to create maps that represent all land masses and seas as accurately as possible."
supergreg··on Apple’s new MacBook Pro kills off most of the ports you probably need
Touch typing. Unless they added some haptic feedback it's not gonna be enough.
supergreg··on IPFS is the Distributed Web
If I try to host a javascript application that uses LocalStorage for saving data, it would be visible to any other ipfs JavaScript application because they all exist under the same domain, right? Have you thought about having the URLs be something like ipfs://<hash>/index.html instead of http://local host/<hash>/index.html so browsers keep the LocalStorage for each ipfs hash separated?
supergreg··on Firefox Launches More Experimental Features
How about removing referral headers, report back very common user-agents, accept headers, language headers, screen resolution, etc. Take a look at https://panopticlick.eff.org/
supergreg··on Firefox Launches More Experimental Features
> The Page Shot uses pageshot.net for storing the images.

Showstopper right here. What's wrong with storing to my hard drive? Can I at least choose my own server?

supergreg··on React Implementation Notes
Nice. I was always wondering why no one was trying to do isometric stuff in other languages since every language and their mother seem to have a compile-to-js feature.
supergreg··on Gitless: a version control system
I've seen people recommend npm over submodules. You can give it a git repo as a package and tag/commit as the version so it's not just for JavaScript repositories and also pulls the submodule's own npm dependencies. Although I don't know if you can put it wherever you want or it will always go to the node_modules directory.
supergreg··on Gitless: a version control system
Auto stashing and restoring when moving branches or in the middle of a rebase seem like nice features. I'll definitely try it for that.
supergreg··on What HP Must Do to Make Amends for Its Self-Destructing Printers
A chart like they did for messaging apps would be nice. Show the pros and cons, let the consumer decide and even bring light to little known, well behaved players if there are any :^)
supergreg··on Mozilla has stopped all commercial development on Firefox OS
What GNU/Linux mobile? Can you elaborate on that?
supergreg··on DDoS protection
I think their work is fantastic, but I really don't like that every site I visit meets me with CF's captcha page. It's not only annoying per se, but the privacy implications are unsettling. I welcome the competition.
supergreg··on The Dropbox hack is real
Other services also let you use the alias as a subdomain: example@alias.gmail.com. Wish Gmail added that feature. Do they have any place I can sent a feature request?

Another feature of Gmail is you can place dots anywhere in your email and it will still reach you: ex.am.ple@gmail.com. I haven't seen services that reject that so it is what I use when I can't use a +.

supergreg··on Test flight held for small jet modeled after Miyazaki anime
I'm still waiting for my hoverboard.
supergreg··on Ask HN: Elegant C# Code
There was an HN entry on building a C# bittorrent client from scratch that was very nice to read: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=12035568
supergreg··on Bitcoin’s not money, judge rules as she tosses money-laundering charge
But does the bitcoin have anything to do with it? What if you buy their car (sell them dollars)?
supergreg··on UK government changes website guidelines due to buggy screen readers
They could put the e.g. inside a dfn tag or teach the screen readers how to read it.
supergreg··on Introducing Vulkan-Hpp – Open-Source Vulkan C++ API
And there is DX12 support for those?
supergreg··on KickassTorrents resurfaces online
To catch those who upload the torrents?
supergreg··on KickassTorrents resurfaces online
The worst are the sites that sell the ads and don't even have the torrents, they look like torrent or direct download sites and only have shady links that lead to more ads and no content so they don't even incur in facilitating piracy.
supergreg··on KickassTorrents resurfaces online
> "hosted on multiple cloud servers to prevent blockade, and the hosting information is well hidden behind Cloudflare."

Isn't Cloudflare an American company? I wouldn't trust them to hide that information from the American government.

supergreg··on Alleged founder of world’s largest BitTorrent distribution site arrested
In a blockchain-based system, proof of work could give users points so they could spend them to show their trust on a file (or maybe transfer them to whoever they trust so they can release files with a number of points from the start). For the duplication problem, solve it like IPFS does, the file's hash is it's Uri so a duplicate would just point to the same resource. Actually, people could build KAT-like sites entirely in IPFS and users loading (and thus, serving them to other users) said sites would be the trust mechanism.
supergreg··on Reducing Adobe Flash Usage in Firefox
The only use for Flash I have these days is for streaming sites like Twitch. Once that's tackled, I'll be more than happy to remove the plugin.

That said, it used to be easy to block annoying stuff by having Flash enabled on demand.

supergreg··on The Magic of “Untranslatable” Words
Most are suficiently different (allegro would be alegre in spanish) or unused (andante) to keep the musical context. But it's easy to grasp the musical context from the language one anyway (in the case of largo and lento).
