supergreg··on GIMP developer looking for funding
If only it worked in Linux.

As an aside, I've tried Krita, but am too used to how things work in Gimp, particularly the shortcuts. How different is Paint.net?

supergreg··on Xiaomi stops disclosing annual sales figures
Are you sure it is Xiaomi selling under cost and not the other way around? Prices for other phones are excessive compared to Xiaomi and other Chinese brands with similar specs.
supergreg··on GCC is C++17 Complete
That's easier to fix. Just resize your window. Heck, if you use Firefox you can just press ctrl+alt+m for a mobile-like view without resizing the window.
supergreg··on Calling bullshit
> we are proposing to teach it at the University of Washington in the near future

I call BS.

supergreg··on The “.onion” Special-Use Domain Name (2015)
And here in the West everything has a subreddit. I can only imagine the future holds even better, resilient ways for obscure topics to gather people like distributed forums and such.
supergreg··on Backpage Shuts Down Adult Ads in the U.S., Citing Government Pressure
How did that work for the silk road? I remember the same arguments told about it but never followed on it.
supergreg··on Atlassian acquires Trello for $425M
Checkout gitkraken. Really easy to use. Cleaner interface than sourcetree with almost all the features.
supergreg··on Online databases dropping like flies, with 10,000 falling to ransomware
Or you could, you know, use Bitcoin as money instead of trying to convert it to Dollars all at once.
supergreg··on GitLab 8.15 Released
I tried the docker image for gitlab-ce just 2 days ago and had to exec bash into it and chmod a workhorse socket file to get it working. Glad they fixed it.
supergreg··on Egypt has blocked encrypted messaging app Signal
Or just setup Tor and keep using whatever they were using before.
supergreg··on Pregnancy alters woman's brain 'for at least two years'
It would have been interesting to also compare women pregnant with their second child. Is this phenomenon only seen in first time mothers?
supergreg··on Blue Ocean
Only 5 users. We are using Gitlab from Bitnami which I'm sure is using the Omnibus package. Maybe they configure it differently. I'll check, thanks.
supergreg··on Blue Ocean
Does these pipelines thing imply moving away from Sidekiq? At work that's our biggest issue with Gitlab. Sidekiq dies all the time and Gitlab has to be restarted for merge requests to work again.
supergreg··on Ask HN: Why does 'View Source' issue a new HTTP request?
I wouldn't mind having to activate it in the developer tools and disable when I don't need it anymore and can feel the difference. Definitely easier than having to open a separate program like fiddler.
supergreg··on System loads web pages 34 percent faster by fetching files more effectively
>another important reason i personally don't use CDNs is the privacy of my users.

How high up the privacy concern is using a CDN vs having cloudflare in front of you or everything being in AWS or using a browser by an ad company?

supergreg··on System loads web pages 34 percent faster by fetching files more effectively
I use uBlock in Firefox for Android. There's also AdAway to block domains in the /etc/hosts file.
supergreg··on Maya – Python Datetimes for Humans
Maybe `when` should be renamed or an alias to `at` and add an `in` method to make it more explicit.
supergreg··on Yahoo discloses hack of 1B accounts
Google(MD5(M1)) = MD5(M2) is more than enough for most users.
supergreg··on Yahoo discloses hack of 1B accounts
Could the attacker find an easier to find string that matches the same md5 hash?
supergreg··on The New and Improved Privacy Badger 2.0 Is Here
I use uBlock Origin together with Privacy badger. It can block cookies for a domain while allowing you to load files, which I find useful, for example, for reading disqus comments in a website.
supergreg··on German judges explain their decision that ad-blocking software is legal
It's a cat and mouse thing. If they add some js to check for ad blockers then ad blockers block that too.

They could check over time if a user has seen as many ads as page views and block them then but users would just need to delete their cookies.

supergreg··on Why I'm Making Python 2.8
Just call it Unofficial Python 2.8 instead of Python 2.8
supergreg··on Why I'm Making Python 2.8
What about not spending time and money and just keep using python 2 for software that already uses it. And only use python 3 for new code bases.
supergreg··on Russia’s Creepy, Innovative Internet [video]
Is it supposed to be a video? Because I'm not seeing it. Is it behind a paywall?
supergreg··on Amazon States Language – A JSON-based language to describe state machines
Yaml looks like the perfect candidate
supergreg··on Uber Now Tracks Passengers’ Locations Even After They’re Dropped Off
If only we were able to rate management and they were let go with a 3 or less stars review.
supergreg··on Cards Against Humanity is digging a hole in the earth
If you see the glass half full, they are not just digging a hole, they are creating a hill next to it.
supergreg··on Ad blockers are part of the problem
More than ad blockers they have become annoyance blockers for me. I'm always adding sidebars and other stuff to either my adblocker, to remove them; or to stylish, which allows you to add CSS to the site, when I just want the annoyance to be less annoying (smaller font, less flashy colors, move aside so the main content can get the main spot in the page).
supergreg··on Ad blockers are part of the problem
Couldn't he submit a pull request with the rule out explaining his reasons?
supergreg··on Nude pics as IOU: a new, risky online loan among Chinese university students
Is that so the loan shark can be even more shielded thanks to the pseudonymity? They require family information from the student. A pseudonymous coin is not going to change anything.
