sunnyps··on Sublime Text 3 Build 3124
Yes, I only meant C++ IDEs, I should've clarified that.

Although I'm not sure how IDEs for other languages deal with humongous projects (~ millions of LOC).

It's similar to Goto Definition (F12). It's based on parsing according to the syntax definition (which only does line by line contextual parsing) so kinda like ctags. In practice it works better than the painfully slow "smart" and often non-existent* symbol navigation in IDEs (although QtCreator is very good in this regard).

sunnyps··on Visual Studio Code 1.5
VS Code (a "smart" text editor not to be confused with Visual Studio an IDE) doesn't parse C++ code (which is what Chromium consists off) in the default configuration. And even if you have the C++ extension enabled it doesn't parse any code until later.

I don't think being "browser based" as the reason that opening a directory is slow. A lot of traditional IDEs (cough Visual Studio cough) also have similar problems. I think they're doing a bunch of work (e.g. caching all subdirectories and files) but aren't doing it concurrently with the UI.
sunnyps··on Visual Studio Code 1.5
Still not impressed. I just tried it with Chrome and it's way slower than Sublime Text to be useful for me even when excluding large parts of the checkout. Also enabling the C++ extension made my computer hang, I couldn't spawn new shells or even login in a tty.

I really want to be able to use it for my work but I can't unless it's about as fast as Sublime Text.

sunnyps··on Children Should Eat Less Than 25 Grams of Added Sugar Daily
Then you should provide a citation. Here's a quote from the Harvard health blog[1]:

"A summary of the committee’s December 2014 meeting says “Cholesterol is not considered a nutrient of concern for overconsumption.” Translation: You don’t need to worry about cholesterol in your food.

"Why not? There’s a growing consensus among nutrition scientists that cholesterol in food has little effect on the amount of cholesterol in the bloodstream. And that’s the cholesterol that matters."

Wasn't it the USDA (US Dept. of Agriculture) that did that?
sunnyps··on The Google Play store, coming to a Chromebook near you
I don't think the main problem with Windows PCs is the cost of AD/Exchange/etc although it's a big problem. IMO the main problem is that even well managed Windows installs have a way of turning to shit (mine did recently). OTOH ChromeOS is the exact opposite: unless you put your Chromebook into developer mode you cannot muck with the OS at all. And even if you manage to somehow get your device into a bad state, reinstalling from a factory image is easy. So Windows might have more apps and be a more capable OS than ChromeOS but its support costs are too high for it to viable.

They changed this behavior after huge public outcry. It used to install the update too. Microsoft was even ordered to pay $10k in a civil suit[1] because of this.

sunnyps··on Visual Studio Code 1.4
The newer dev builds of Sublime Text introduced a way to render popups (that hover over text) using a subset of html (minihtml). It's already being used to show a list of references under the cursor as well as better build errors. I imagine there will be extensions taking advantage of this soon.
sunnyps··on Visual Studio Code 1.4
Sublime Text doesn't do this by default although there's an extension[1] to do that.

No, not even on Android[1]. What was different before was that there wasn't a separate GPU process but OpenGL was executed in the browser process (in process command buffer). In any case the renderer hasn't been working with GL directly on all platforms (outside of tests) for at least a few years now.

I would really like to use VS Code as my primary editor but it has some issues that need to be fixed first, most importantly how slow the go to file functionality is. I work on a project (Chromium) that has tens of thousands of source files and while Sublime Text can handle that without issues, VS Code can't.

I would also like to see the C++ intellisense plugin that's under development improved further. I've found it to be a lot slower than QtCreator at indexing symbols.

I think you have a different idea of what gpu acceleration means here. When we say that animating transform and opacity is fast, it means that we can animate it without rasterizing content over and over again i.e. only use composition. This is independent of how rasterization takes place. Rasterization itself can be gpu accelerated, Chrome has started doing this on mobile[1].

Animating other CSS properties such as font-size require us to rasterize new content on every frame of animation. That is the inherent reason for why it's slow. Again we can use the GPU for rasterization but we're still going to do it every frame instead of caching the result in a texture that's then composited over and over again.
