stimpson_j_cat··on YouTube suspends The Hill for playing clip of Trump denying election results
Is that pure speculation or based on any evidence at all?
stimpson_j_cat··on Spotify is removing Neil Young’s music after falling out over Joe Rogan
Your point wasn't lost, just poorly reasoned. Joe Rogan is mainstream media, has decades of experience in broadcasting and a multi-million dollar broadcasting deal. He's not an outsider.

"TV journalists" criticize him for spreading misinformation.

stimpson_j_cat··on Homelessness rises faster where rent exceeds a third of income (2018)
Your URL cites two studies, one was in the US, which states:

> I combine the address histories with a simulation model to estimate that building 100 new market-rate units leads 45-70 and 17-39 people to move out of below-median and bottom-quintile income tracts

The people represented in your vague "liberal policymakers" are almost universally in support of "market-rate units," contrary to your claims. Did you read any of the articles or studies you linked to?

The Trump Administration suspended part of a 2016 rule designed to reduce segregation and expand opportunity for low-income families with Housing Choice Vouchers. Is he a "liberal policymaker" as well?

stimpson_j_cat··on Post-SSRI sexual dysfunction
> I’m not a doctor or a medical expert

> The Art of Manliness participates in affiliate marketing programs

Seems like a terrible resource. Much better would be blood work at your PCP (and a possible referral to an endocrinologist).

stimpson_j_cat··on El Salvador's Bitcoin use grows but headaches persist
LN has 75k channels right now and 3k BTC locked https://1ml.com/

Did the GP provide any specific reason why LN can't scale other than "here's a link to youtube from 2018?"

stimpson_j_cat··on El Salvador's Bitcoin use grows but headaches persist
The only knowledge you have of the lightning network is a YouTube video from 3 years ago posted on a subreddit with a financial interest in badmouthing BTC?
stimpson_j_cat··on Ask HN: How many of you changed your mind about Bitcoin?
Huge amounts of institutional investment, and disproportionate control by the very wealthy makes BTC markets unattractive as they start to resemble the traditional markets BTC was supposed to free us from.
stimpson_j_cat··on Helvetica Now Variable
That's a standard practice for a lot of webfont vendors isn't it? I know it was for Typekit/Adobe Fonts (which requires a Creative Cloud subscription).
stimpson_j_cat··on Helvetica Now Variable
> you can't just buy it and use it, you have to renew the license annually

The page you linked to says otherwise ("License: Pay Once"). In some cases the license is annual.

> include in a web application that will be downloaded and installed by customers

The page you linked to also includes this as a licensing option, no? ("App: for embedding in mobile applications")

stimpson_j_cat··on Co-founder of Snopes was writing plagiarized articles under a fake name
> I see Snopes as pure, unadulterated bias

Oh, they said Trump told the truth when he said "Murders this year have spiked 27% in Philadelphia."

https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2020/jul/24/donald-tru...

Why didn't anyone remind them of their bias before this got published?

stimpson_j_cat··on Parler is back online after a month of downtime
I don't, which is why I didn't say I did.

I don't believe a site focused on anti-Semitism is a "Christian" site or full of people practicing the teachings of Jesus.

stimpson_j_cat··on Parler is back online after a month of downtime

    Gab is a Christian safe-space
Christ was a Jew, and his followers' safe-space is anti-semitic?
stimpson_j_cat··on Parler is back online after a month of downtime
> Imagine that your bank will ask you to find another bank

The First Amendment does not prohibit private entities from limiting speech, we don't have to imagine.

What's your solution to the problem above? The government forcing the bank to retain the customer?

stimpson_j_cat··on Parler is back online after a month of downtime
Neither Parler (nor Gab) defended the views they hated. If you've seen the front page of either you can't argue in good faith that they did. In fact, they banned dissenters.

By this standard Chomsky would argue Parler "prefers Stalinist standards." Do you believe they do?

stimpson_j_cat··on Parler is back online after a month of downtime
Did you mean "today" literally or as in "modern times?"

They represented a white supremacist denied a permit by the city of Charlottesville in 2017 (for the rally where a Nazi sympathizer killed a protester). They were criticized; they weren't canceled or deserted.

stimpson_j_cat··on My stack is HTML+CSS
Yes. In the nineties.
stimpson_j_cat··on My stack is HTML+CSS
The site still fails Lighthouse, including the test for "Includes front-end JavaScript libraries with known security vulnerabilities." But wait, I thought it was just HTML and CSS!
stimpson_j_cat··on Ask HN: Why is Reddit on mobile so obsessed with making me use their app?
Fresh? Since the_donald and the other white supremacy reddits got big the air has been stagnant with that kind of hate.
stimpson_j_cat··on Ask HN: Why is Reddit on mobile so obsessed with making me use their app?
Really? Communities featured on the Ruqqus front page:

* EnoughTransgenderSpam: Transgender ideology makes no sense.

* SimpsInAction: Simp - A man who foolishly overvalues and defers to a woman, putting ...

* JustBeWhite: A place to discuss racial dynamics in the dating market.

* JewishQuestion: This community is dedicated to discussing and exposing Jewish control...

* SoyBoys

...looks like all the worst supremacy and hate channels from reddit.

stimpson_j_cat··on Why Credit Card Fraud Is Still a Thing
Yes! Fraud dept told me it was someone entering random numbers. What does that explain?! shrug
stimpson_j_cat··on Why Credit Card Fraud Is Still a Thing
I think it was US Bank but this was some years ago
stimpson_j_cat··on Why Credit Card Fraud Is Still a Thing
I got a notification that my new card was used for fraud while it was in the mail on the way to me
stimpson_j_cat··on Tampa teen accused of being ‘mastermind’ behind Twitter hack
They don't say they were able to hunt someone down based on their bitcoin address
stimpson_j_cat··on Things I wish I’d known about CSS
Yeah I thought this was going to be quirks with CSS Grid or something.

The "CSS Zen Garden" from 1999 gets posted about every 3 months and makes it to the front page...

stimpson_j_cat··on Ask HN: What's the worst piece of software you use everyday?
> Copying and pasting are universally hotkey+c and hotkey+v

After a couple decades, I'm still holding out for ctrl+x. Someday, someday...

stimpson_j_cat··on Ask HN: What's the worst piece of software you use everyday?
Google knows 2 out of the 3. The same with text captchas, they knew 1 of the 2. It assumes if you got one right, you got the others too. So they key is guessing which one is unknown, picking the correct ones, and picking a random one for the last
stimpson_j_cat··on Sampler for Mac Touchbars
Doesn't this demonstrate why the touchbar isn't very useful?

Every part of this UI would be better without it--physical keys to play the samples, a big touchpad to use slider controls with, the hi-def screen to see it all happen.

(It's a really neat demo)

stimpson_j_cat··on GitHub Super Linter: one linter to rule them all
Not to mention it dirties up version control. It's a lot easier to tell which _significant_ things changed from the last commit when you're scanning a diff and no formatting changes are highlighted.
stimpson_j_cat··on Maillard reaction
> anything that gratifies one's intellectual curiosity

Wow, inCREDibly vague. I thought this was a news site, thank you for clarifying.

stimpson_j_cat··on Maillard reaction
Oh, I thought of it as "news" and was confused
