stefanoco··on Volkswagen’s plan to create a new car operating system
My two cents: - I'm asking myself why there's no reference to Autosar (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AUTOSAR) which is not an operating system (whatever this means in this context), but yelds a sort of a standard architecture in the car and among third parties. It's a real mess, but it works in this sense. - rumors exist about VW and other manufacturers pushing for using ADA (more specifically Spark), anyone aware of this?

Yes, with an eye to the quality and consciousness of what you’re doing

Software development by itself is not a technical profession that gives the best results from this point of view. Having said this, I’m pretty sure that strong and passion-driven skills in a few fields can make a difference: embedded electronics software better than web, high quality and functional safety oriented better than plain software, ML specialist (but with real experience in challenging embedded applications) better than generic algorithms, and so on. Again: the one professional that specialises in designing the architecture and requisites of a functional safety concerned piece of software (think of an automotive code under ISO26262 norm) will easily monetise his skill much more than the ten software developers that realise the same code.
stefanoco··on Ask HN: What are some tech companies that do not use an open floor plan?
Bluewind is a small consulting company based in Italy (embedded systems). We switched from "almost all devs in a room" to 2/3 devs per room maximum while building our own offices recently. And common spaces for meetings, conferences and telephone calls. Encouraging to work from home when possible also. Interesting: working this way and adopting Agile principles makes enhances collaboration a lot, much more that in the previous open space where having everyone in the same room makes it almost impossible for people to talk each other when needed.

Bluewind Embedded Systems | Design engineer, Physics/Engineering/Mathematics graduated | north Italy | http://www.bluewind.it | ON SITE, FULL TIME, INTERNS

Bluewind is Hiring

Bluewind is constantly in search for resources M/F for its Research and Development team. Experience is welcome but curiosity and learning attitude is more important. We develop products with Embedded Electronics inside. People working here will learn a lot about Embedded Linux, C/C++ on freeRTOS, electronics hardware design, algorithms, reliability, safety, rapid prototyping. Working from remote has never been a problem but residents in the area are preferred in this case. Fluency in English is required.

If you have a degree in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering and feel curious about what we do please send your CV to Head of R&D: stefano.costa@bluewind.it
