stakecounter··on Chrome’s requestAutocomplete()
I think in that case it would be almost the same as a malicious site calling form.submit() after detecting in javascript that all of the fields have been filled out. It would have a slightly worse accuracy, though, since the user has not yet double checked that the form is correct. Does anyone know if there are laws related to this? I could definitely see it being illegal to automatically submit forms that result in financial transactions.
stakecounter··on If you hate red-light cameras, you’ll really hate speeding ticket robots
My example is an edge case, but I was once waiting to turn left at a sensor activated red light that refused to turn despite no other cars being near the intersection. I even went in reverse and then forward again to see if the light would change. After waiting a minute or so I just decided to go. I definitely would've been more upset if I had to fight to get a ticket correction had there been a red light camera installed.

To try and generalize a little bit, punishing people first without taking into consideration special circumstances can potentially cause more problems than they may solve.

stakecounter··on Unix tricks
That first example is great, thanks. I run into that all the time. Up until now I've been doing this:

$ cp file.txt /some/annoyingly/deep/target/directory/other.txt

$ cd !$ (No such file or directory)

(up arrow and then backspace to directory)

stakecounter··on Watch Twitter users say who they voted for in real time
My favorite one so far under the people who "voted for Obama" is:

I couldn't sleep at night had I voted for Obama or Romney. #IVotedGaryJohnson

stakecounter··on Pandora doesn't hash their passwords
Robbing a convenience store at gunpoint or illegally downloading torrents usually also "leave a trail." That doesn't mean nobody is willing to do it, and I definitely wouldn't feel safe if random people had access to my bank account just because if they did anything law enforcement might be able to catch them.
stakecounter··on T-mobile password reset does not allow you to type the letter "V"
It makes sense to paste your password when logging into an account, but from what I read this is just on the password reset. They probably want people to actually type their new password twice instead of typing it once and then copy/pasting for the second field.
stakecounter··on Why Twitter’s Co-Founders Are Betting Big On A Vegan Meat Startup
Is there an example food here other than broccoli that takes less energy but has more similar macros (protein, carbohydrates and fat) to beef or chicken? A major reason a lot of meat eaters choose to eat meat is the high percentage of calories from protein (in addition to the taste, obviously). Broccoli may be cheaper to produce 500 calories but those calories are mostly just carbs which most people get more than enough of.

Do you mean directly correlated? If you are more attractive, your comments will be more appropriate. If you are less attractive, your comments will be less appropriate.
stakecounter··on 3D Tetris with WebGL (Three.js)
It would be nice if there was an option to turn off the game sounds (If there is, I'm not seeing it). It's pretty painful.
stakecounter··on Show HN: Our first iPhone app, built entirely in JavaScript
To add to this (Chrome / OSX), clicking on the 4 buttons on the left side multiple times breaks the scrolling. The more you click it, the longer it breaks. I noticed this exact same bug on that stop SOPA banner (featured on HN about a month ago) which also caused a page scroll when clicked. I wonder if the issues are related?
stakecounter··on A "Moneyball" statician predicted Jeremy Lin's success 2 years ago
In response to the turnovers, I want to mention that there are a couple reasons for that.

The first is that he's playing PG and has to handle the ball a lot more than anyone else on the team right now. Combined with his minutes, that's generally going to give you more TO's just because of the amount of time with the ball and the probability of a player of his skill level losing it (although this point doesn't account for other PG's who average way fewer TO's).

Second, he's just started to play a ridiculous amount of minutes over the past week and hasn't had enough time to refine himself yet. Did you watch the first couple weeks of games this season? Because of the lockout this year, there were almost no preseason games and it showed. Turnover rates were extremely high for pretty much every team, so I'm inclined to think that Lin can get his turnovers down throughout the rest of the season assuming they keep playing him.

My last point is a pretty obvious one, but he's still young. A few more years of experience and I expect to see turnovers go down. I watched his 38 point game last night, and while he played pretty amazing, he did have moments where he looked confused and flustered when running the offense.

stakecounter··on Apple to disrupt notebook space with radically redesigned MacBook Pros
I agree with the customizable bay idea but also that it probably won't happen. Whenever I hear rumors about moving the mechanical drive in the MBP to the SSD in the MBA, I wonder about how they're going to satisfy all of the people who don't care/know about read and write speeds but wonder why their storage space got cut in half.
stakecounter··on Show HN: We built a free Stop SOPA/PIPA notification bar for sites
Clicking on the "Stop PIPA" button multiple times for me causes scrolling problems afterwards. It looks like the more you click it, the longer the problem occurs (Google Chrome / Windows).
stakecounter··on Google+ passes 62 million users. Adding 625,000 new users per day.
It's definitely way more barren on G+ than Facebook, but I think that part of this is because on G+, users are more likely to make posts that can only be seen by a small subset of the total number of users in their circles. On Facebook, most users still make posts visible to everyone on their friends list. I personally have a "close friends" circle of about 15 people and we typically just share content with each other; at the same time I'm seeing posts from people outside of this circle talking no one ever posts to G+.

Although G+ still has way fewer posts than Facebook, I suspect that it would need a much higher post rate than Facebook to appear as "active" to users.

stakecounter··on Chrome Remote Desktop extension by Google
Easy to use; took only a minute to set up a connection. Just played Battlefield in my browser that was viewing my roommate's shared desktop (very low frame rate, obviously).

It would be cool if there was at least an option for the shared computer to resume sharing once one session has ended.
