I advocate for publicly funded journalism, elections, etc. but our legislators are already captured as well. And yeah if that means higher tax revenue to support that then that's just what we have to do.
stainforth··on Kurt Gödel’s Brilliant Madness
>before anyone else

I read a tweet recently that seemed to summarize Kant as having done something similar for knowledge, and I immediately thought of Godel's incompleteness theorem. Obviously I don't claim to fully understand full threads of their works, but found the connection interesting (and Kant finally accessible perhaps)

The gold, land, art reference 2 posts above yours almost certainly refers to the Rothschilds, so I don't know why solosoyokaze is being downvoted as the Rothschilds most definitely funded wars to their own profit.

All that promise that innovation like HFT among other things was fine because of the value liquidity they can provide and now they can just choose to not play if they don't want to.

I think the "hold a piece" dynamic of the Tetris with friends is such a good addition that it should be the official version? Agree or disagree?

I wonder if this gets at the Chomsky theory about an ingrained language or approach, and if so then it would be useful to pattern the initial arrangement of a neural network intentionally to match what biology has already laid out.

stainforth··on I guess I have to watch ads everywhere on my $1,500 LG TV now
> then becomes trivial to flash the firmware from an adless TV onto an adful TV

Just occurred to me that we need some young hackers to start working on "opening" up tv firmware like they have for consoles and phones.

I thought supply had to cater to demand, but if they're all emergently colluding...

I don't know how you can cite an example of Eternalblue and in the same sentence dismiss the risk.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EternalBlue "On May 12, 2017, the worldwide WannaCry ransomware used this exploit to attack unpatched computers.[6][8][9][10][11][12]:1 On June 27, 2017, the exploit was again used to help carry out the 2017 NotPetya cyberattack on more unpatched computers."

stainforth··on Building an E-Ink Laptop
Well I'm asking since you work in the industry, how much does it cost to license e-ink technology?
stainforth··on Building an E-Ink Laptop
This sounds like a chicken or egg argument. Of course you'll give me wholesale pricing on volume in any market. But are product creators scared off when a big part of each unit's cost will go to license the screen technology?
