stainablesteel··on Job-seekers are dodging AI interviewers
a long and extensive screening that offers no feedback, no doubt people will get frustrated. people will leave this for the same reason they leave tinder, you put yourself out there just to be ignored.
stainablesteel··on Brave blocks Microsoft Recall by default
microsoft is just malware at this point, it's intelligence gathering to spy on people

how is this even legal?

stainablesteel··on Meta says it won't sign Europe AI agreement
what's bad about it is when people say "it's to protect citizens" when it's really a political move to control american companies
stainablesteel··on Meta says it won't sign Europe AI agreement
you can choose to live in fear, the rest of us are embracing growth
stainablesteel··on Will AI systems perform poorly due to AI-generated material in training data?
i can't believe this article wasn't written 2 years ago, this is just the basics man

i'm scared to explain it, you could be north korean
stainablesteel··on We identified a North Korean hacker who tried to get a job
their strategy honestly says a lot of crazy things about their worldview
stainablesteel··on Firefox tab groups are here
i've been using horizontal tree tabs for years, but this looks like a built in native version

maybe they can make it horizontal next

stainablesteel··on Former Disney employee who hacked Disney World menus sentenced to 3 years

stainablesteel··on James Webb Space Telescope reveals that most galaxies rotate clockwise
there's also that famous experiment by Chien-Shiung Wu, veritasium did a video on it somewhere
stainablesteel··on James Webb Space Telescope Reveals That Most Galaxies Rotate Clockwise
so i guess the underlying assumption is that this looks out from out perspective in a single static orientation, because this says nothing to me about their orientation which i think is what they're trying to convey by saying clockwise?

or i suppose this is clockwise/counterclockwise in regards to the direction they're moving in?

2/3 doesn't seem that significant if they think it should be a 50/50 split, we might just not be seeing enough

stainablesteel··on Getting hit by lightning is good for some tropical trees
outstanding, a lightning trap for nearby plants, and maybe nearby animals i wonder
stainablesteel··on I asked police to send me their public surveillance footage of my car
yeah, "you're not spying on your spouse the way your insurance company spies on you, right?" i don't like it
stainablesteel··on Why do transit agencies keep falling for the hydrogen bus myth?
this is the best answer and it's not the only way they do it, they've become extremely sophisticated saboteurs of anything energy related through pure marketing alone

there are some free models out there from both chat companies and open source
stainablesteel··on Gemini Robotics brings AI into the physical world
i love these robots and all but it's still the world's most expensive paper folder. none of these are energy efficient enough for production or are ever going to be as profitable as a simpler automated process that misses some targets every now and then

stainablesteel··on The DOJ still wants Google to sell off Chrome
is there a better way of breaking up the google monopoly?
stainablesteel··on NIH.gov DNS servers down, making PubMed, BLAST, etc. unreachable [fixed]
the data really isn't that large and the algo isn't difficult, most people who do this work don't need to compare proteins across every organism in the world. most people just compare to a few organisms that they work within the context of for clinical trials or data.

if you're comparing DNA and looking at every organism ever you might need such power, but if you do i'd hope you work at some institute that makes your own algo in house because blast isn't the end all be all

stainablesteel··on NIH.gov DNS servers down, making PubMed, BLAST, etc. unreachable [fixed]
BLAST is totally outdated, not because it's a bad algorithm but because people should be able to run their own version locally. i find it disappointing that there isn't a lot of innovation in determining protein homogeneity, i thought of multiple ideas when i was doing bioinformatics but never had the time to implement it. slow and bad slackademia strikes again
stainablesteel··on Forum with 2.6M posts being deleted due to UK Online Safety Act
Nope, it makes sense and you're the only one here whose lacking an example. Any definition of hate speech is ridiculous because grown adults who try to control the speech of others are all ridiculous.
stainablesteel··on Forum with 2.6M posts being deleted due to UK Online Safety Act
that is a genuine contribution to the conversation, it points out the opposing argument doesn't make any sense and that the rules are just applied arbitrarily

instead of applying them arbitrarily (which you won't like when your political party isn't in power), just apply them fairly across the board regardless of whose in charge so we can coexist in a civilized manner without the kind of extreme psychological aggression that takes place in the heart of censorship

stainablesteel··on DOGE's only public ledger is riddled with mistakes
1. it is, we're bound to pay $1T in interest and that will spiral us out of financial hegemony

2. this is the typical response i've seen to this and it's missing the point entirely. in government spending you typically pay off lots of groups, pay too much, and give some guy's friend's cousins shop some business because it puts money in people's hands. this is wasteful and can be cut out. it's not the point of DOGE to cut programs that people want, they just spend their money irresponsibly and that can be further optimized to deliver the same results for less money. just as was done with twitter

3. without even getting into it, trump didnt campaign on this. the healthcare system is big and complicated and it needs a lot of magnifying glasses to go through it, if you want that then find a candidate who supports it

4. they do, they pay a lot and those costs can be inhibitive. the taxes generated from this process doesn't pay for what we need, the problem is that government spending is way higher than what industries generate and this is backwards. private business is supposed to support the government through its taxes, not the government spending supporting businesses through nepotism

stainablesteel··on DOGE has 'god mode' access to government data
no it's based on elections
stainablesteel··on X users are unable to post “Signal.me” links
i voted for that, i voted for the destruction of the federal government because it's bankrupting us by stealing our money
