stagger87··on Poll: Which FAANG is the most likely to decline in the years ahead?
It seems they are following the McRib model. Taking it off the menu for awhile probably generates more views overall than simply leaving it on all the time. Plus you can license it out to another streaming service while it's off yours.

Using numbers from only top private schools makes your point fall a bit flat.

Is it controversial/surprising to say that one would learn more from studying than not studying?
stagger87··on How I got wealthy without working too hard
I see what you are saying. Yes, lots of assumptions and luck to get to this position to be able to do this for 7 years. Totally agreed.

> So there’s a lot missing from this blog post. I suspect maybe the author got lucky with some outlier investments, but that’s not something that can be conveyed in a “how to” blog post.

Why do you think that? All the numbers work out. Even in your hypothetical scenario, investing 100k for 7 years, especially in the last 7 years, would easily bring you 1M total investments.

> FIRE type wealth trajectories are possible, but this isn’t what it looks like. Working normally-paid jobs for 7 years and just living your normal life doesn’t get you there.

This is exactly what FIRE is, and again, using numbers from your own post, which I think are reasonable, this is exactly what it looks like. 1M invested, 25k/yr expenses = 40 years with no gains in investments, people into FIRE usually assume 4% growth, so he would be even better off. If that isn't FIRE, I don't know what is.

stagger87··on The decline of unfettered research (1995)
> Practically speaking this means that my work is restricted in that it deliver something resembling a product or service within a couple of years.

So fettered, as per the articles definition of the word fettered.

It really just sounds like you don't like the word fettered for some reason. Maybe it has a negative connotation to you?

stagger87··on Why the Job Search Sucks (2018)
Employers can't give you feedback because the people before you have responded by crying, arguing, threatening discrimination, you name it. Most people don't seem able to take constructive feedback.
stagger87··on Intel’s Alder Lake big.little CPU design, tested: it’s a barn burner
Wow, and 2 FMA units/ports as well? Gotta love that the first consumer chip with 2 x AVX-512 FMA units doesn't officially support it.

PC laptop pricing fluctuates so much and I don't know why. You can kit out a ThinkPad P15 with these specs for ~2500 right now. Next month the prices will be flipped. Go figure. At least Apple is consistently priced high.

stagger87··on U.S. tightens export controls on items used in surveillance of private citizens
> is ECC memory now a controlled item?

What you meant to ask is, "Is telecommunications equipment using ECC memory controlled under 5A001?", and the answer is no, a.2 refers to rad-hard components.

The key words are "specifically hardened to ..." instead of something like "using any technology that might help with ...". Generally the CCLs never use vague wording like this.
