The summaries come from openrouter/free so they cost nothing. Could probably also ask the AI to produce tags, will do some experiments! Thanks for the suggestion!
stagas··on Hacker News front page as a site
Thanks, technically it scrapes every 10 minutes the first 3 pages of HN and the first 3 /newest, fires up a Chrome instance with puppeteer, visits each site with a spoofed GoogleBot UserAgent to avoid paywalls, scrapes `document.body.textContent`, sends it to openrouter/free and asks to summarize. We also collect the opengraph images to show in that step. One difficulty was getting the responses to not be garbage enough but with some prompt tweaks that fixed. It runs on a small VPS with bun. Biggest challenge was setting up the deployment pipeline actually because I hadn't done it before. But now I can `git push` and it gets updated and restarts fine :)

Great idea, I'm trying this.

Made it 3, try again perhaps. Changing to text-align: left really destroys the aesthetic though.

Some of them are really large and I'm not resizing them or storing them, just proxying their og image directly. So they might be taking long to respond from the original source. Also getting hammerred by being in the front page.

It is possible. Will look into it.

I did increase it in the meanwhile from when that comment was posted.

Tricks of the trade :)

Because I'm telling the AI "summarize it to one paragraph".

Just made it a bit bigger.
stagas··on Loopmaster – Livecoding Music IDE
It's a compromise of speed vs quality. You can do `oversample(8, ()-> ...)` to get an increase in quality on certain occassions but that will slow down the performance.

If anyone wants to contribute gens/filters[0] the code is open source under MIT.

Tysm! Technically, about the audio engine, the language is fully Turing complete, compiling bytecode which then gets swapped out in realtime and executed by a VM running in WebAssembly/AssemblyScript. All the gens/effects/filters are implemented in a custom DSL that gencodes AssemblyScript classes with all the permutations of parameters whether they're scalar or audio inputs in order to achieve the maximum performance possible. I had a lot of help from the LLMs but all of the components had been previously implemented by hand as well multiple times in previous versions, so I had a clear direction. If you have any questions feel free to ask, we also have a Discord you can find it in the homepage at the footer.

Thanks! Whop is a funding platform like buymeacoffee but it had crypto as well (well, buymeacoffee also has now).

stagas··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (May 2026)
This is pretty cool! I've been working on something similar[0], but for the browser, maybe you like it.

I recently switched to developing VST audio plugins and I'm loving it. Already done 3 [0][1][2] and I want to keep doing this if I manage to generate some income from it. I develop them in Typescript and then convert them to C++ with Webview, this way I have a web demo of the plugin that is almost identical to the one you get for the DAW.

Thank you!

Challenging would be an understatement. Had to create an editor from scratch in canvas to support the inline visuals, then a DSL that generates the code for each permutation of audio and scalar parameters, then the language itself which is Turing complete and controls the whole thing in a VM, choosing the optimal permutation for each case, and all the edits/recompilation be done in few ms to not distrupt the experience, all across a thread (the WebAudio AudioWorklet). The audio engine is in WebAssembly as it was the only way to get the performance needed. You can check out the code[0], the project is open-source!

I think you're right. We have a `pwm(hz,width)`[0] but I didn't try it. Was more focused on the ramp/sawtooth. Can't decide which one sounds better.

stagas··on Building a TB-303 from Scratch
What's your OS/browser? On Chrome/Linux it works fine. If you're focused on an editor it can capture the page keys so you have to click outside first.

Try tweaking the accent multiplier to .1 from .5 - you can get there but it requires a lot of value tweaking. There's no singular TB-303 sound, but the components are there.
stagas··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (March 2026)
A music livecoding app[0], it's open-source[1] and it's been in the works for years in various iterations, but I've finally settled on the format and delivery. I'm now trying to make it as newbie friendly as possible by doing tutorials[2] and videos[3] and having ready-made instruments[4] to begin with. Thinking also to expand it as a general purpose creative editor in a standalone electron app and bundle in other livecoding languages as well, for graphics also.

stagas··on Show HN: I built a fractal music visualizer
This looks amazing! Well done! Are these visualizers open-source somewhere? I'd love to use something like that in my music livecoding project[0], it's open-source[1], I've only now started adding a little support[2] for shaders but only very simple stuff still. Yours look incredible! Are you interested in collaborating maybe?

Thanks! Repo for v3 is coming, for v2 you can find it here https://github.com/stagas/lm2 - i just didn't have the time to do it and the launch is beta, for the actual launch there will be a repo for v3 as well!
stagas··on Show HN: loopmaster Beta – Code Music
Thank you! The idea is to build full tracks, hence in the app you will find a timeline and a minimap, and there are builtin tools like labels/timeline functions to make arrangements over time. The DSP is state-of-the-art, i'm doing codegen of all the permutations of scalar/audio parameter inputs so the execution is always optimal. There is still room for improvement of course.
