st-keller··on New MacBook Pro has first ‘DIY-friendly’ battery replacement design since 2012
Not everyone says the touchbar is useless. I absolutely love it! I will miss it. And the new Macbook may be a beast but it looks terribly old - like a yesterday-machine. For the first time Apple released a product i will buy because it will be more capable - but not because i want it!
st-keller··on Spinoza’s God: Einstein believed in it, but what was it?
What if the total energy of the whole universe amounts to zero? If - what we call „everything“ - and that what we call „nothing“ is essentially the same? Structurally they clearly are: Both are „unbounded“ - „borderless“. What if a „void“ isn’t the only form „nothing“ is allowed to take?
st-keller··on Apple dropped plan for encrypting backups after FBI complained (2020)
I have to sign-in with my Apple-ID regularly (once a month) - but only on MacOS-Devices.
st-keller··on I Tricked Myself into Liking Running
I simply stopped trying to like it. Trying to „like“ exercising proofed to be more of a burdon than exercising itself. So now im doing it despite of hating it - and that feels a lot better: Now I‘m honest to myself and every time i finish a workout i get „double points“: Doing something for my body and overcoming my reluctance!
st-keller··on Secret government: America against democracy
Yes, maybe China - take about 20 minutes and listen to this talk: http://www.ted.com/talks/eric_x_li_a_tale_of_two_political_s...

At least - a system without elections doesn't breed people, whose primary ability is to get elected.

st-keller··on Poll: How old were you when you started programming?
I was thirteen - my parents didn't know what a computer was good for - so i didn't got one. so i had to write my first programs onto sheets of paper (lot's of them). i had to do lots of typing when i finally got my c64 ;-)
st-keller··on Ask HN: Is anybody solving really cool problems anymore?
We're designing a new "evaluation-system". It uses a new pure functional, time-unaware, inherently parallel core which works without using monads. The core can be considered as a read-eval-print loop without the "read" and the "print". If it works, we will solve some problems which mostly are not considered to be problems. If it doesn't work, we learned more about programming that i ever could have imagined. In short: Yes, some people do some things they themself consider as really cool :-)
st-keller··on Apple's Mistake
Paul's new RFS "development 4 handhelds" seems to be quite simple: The only problem to be solved is: How to design a IDE that doesn't need a keyboard. I admit that this may be a bit diffcult as long programs are "written". Does anyone have an idea, how programs can be "sketched" or "told"?
st-keller··on Do we really need another programming language?
I agree - If you're focused on debugging. But there's much more to that. "Running backwards" is not "replay". Running backwards a clock-program will result in hands turning anti-clockwise. Not mentioned the possibilities you can do, if program-speed can be set beetween 100% and -100%. I think most people think about that as they do with nearly every true innovation: "What schould that be good for?"
st-keller··on Do we really need another programming language?
Of course we need a new programming language - but i don't think we need GO. Here's my personal whishlist: * Concurrency as default (i don't want to express explicitly which parts of my porogram can run in parallel). * I want my programs to be able to run backwards natively (not that kind that MS pseudo backwards-debugging feature crap). i personally call this feature an "entropy-shield" * a really pure functional language (not that "pure functional" languages that allow and than try to monad away "non-functional functions" Such a language has to be completely time-agnostic - that means it will never "run" a program. But - as always - nobody will know what i'm taking about ;-)
