ssutch3··on Bitcoin Energy Consumption Index
Disregarding the energy cost, couldn't a "dumb" PoW be more computationally complex than Sha256, such that a relatively larger number of computers could compete in the consensus algorithm, thereby increasing decentralization? To me, Bitcoin doesn't seem that decentralized, considering the ASIC chip manufacturers control the majority mining stake. Intel has even gotten into the game.

BRD | Stealth Cryptocurrency Project | San Francisco, CA / Bend, OR / Chicago, IL / Tokyo, Japan / Remote Welcome

I [Samuel Sutch, CTO] am hiring for a stealth project team. Our main product, BRD, is a cryptocurrency wallet currently supporting over 150 assets. We are looking to add many more assets as well as dramatically improve the user experience in our app, as well as potentially develop new lines of business.

The two roles I am hiring for right now are:

- Senior Java Architect - will be tasked with leading development of the backend stack and owning architecture.

- Senior Devops Engineer - tasked with deploying and scaling out the system, automating deployments, monitoring, alerting.

Our stack is Java 11 / Spring Boot / Cassandra / Kafka / Zookeeper / Postgres. Our deployment target is multi-cloud with some dedicated hardware for certain services.

Our company is almost entirely remote, but we have some offices where groups of people are, primarily San Francisco, Bend, and Chicago. If you're in one of those areas, great, but there's no pressure to work from the office. You can read more about our mission here: https://brd.com/careers (note: these jobs are not yet listed there)

Please send your resume to sam@brd.com

Many years ago, it was. Parrot is a separate team, and was designed to be the "mother of all VMs" with Perl 6 as its sort of halo language implementation. It split off as the Perl 6 project matured and needed to own the vm/compiler.

breadwallet | Senior Backend Engineer, Senior Android Engineer | San Francisco & Zurich | Remote full-time | https://breadwallet.com

Bread is a crypto-currency startup focused on a consumer-facing mobile wallet available on Android and iOS. We're the most popular iOS wallet and gaining fast on Android! Bread's fully decentralized architecture allows it to connect directly to the P2P networks. We focus on simplicity, security, and privacy.

* Backend, Go/Postgres:

We need a full time backend engineer to join our web team. Our entire infrastructure is in Go and Postgres, and hosted on Kubernetes. If you have experience in these and are looking for an awesome remote startup to work for, please get in touch! You can reach me (the CTO, Samuel Sutch) at sam@breadwallet.com

* Android:

Android is also an area where we could use some help. We're growing very quickly on Android and need some help getting our codebase in better shape. The gig would be 200-300 hours of coding, app architecture, and mentoring our current lead Android engineer. Like the above job, this would be remote. Please reach out to me, sam@breadwallet.com if you're interested. Thanks!

ssutch3··on Analyzing Cryptocurrencies Using PostgreSQL
Yes, and for ICO-type tokens we can expect to see a lot more starting very soon which offer a simple mechanism of profit sharing (dividends) just like with traditional stock exchanges. It won't be as simple as "earnings per coin" since the coins themselves are so diverse and some carry and modify their own monetary properties.

But ultimately we'll probably see those types of coins separated and the more traditional profit sharing coins dominate the market such that a shared language can be established for it.

Breadwallet | React/Redux mobile engineer | Remote/SF, CA

Breadwallet is looking for an experienced software engineer to work with us to build out the future of money. We’re the leading mobile Bitcoin wallet, and need a few more hands to help us achieve our vision: to be the onramp to Bitcoin.

Our team is a group of Bitcoin enthusiasts. We’re geographically distributed across the US and Canada, with a central office in San Francisco, CA. You’ll be working directly with me, @ssutch, to build out features that allow our users to purchase and sell bitcoin directly within the app. We believe this is the next most important step for breadwallet to truly achieve our vision of being the onramp for bitcoin.

The most important skillset for this job is React/Redux. Candidates must have a firm understanding of how React/Redux apps are built and must have worked on them in the past. We have a lightweight HTML5 runtime that is hosted inside our native wallet software. This provides an environment for us to develop quickly, while sandboxing the development from the underlying sensitive financial software.

Our HTML5 team is young, and so far it’s just been me with occasional help from some contractors. You’ll get the opportunity to shape how our HTML5 team evolves into the future.

Experience with iOS/Swift and Android/Java is definitely a bonus, but myself and our Android developer will assist there whenever necessary. Everyone at breadwallet is a polyglot and you are definitely encouraged to try, and learn, new things!

Here are some bullet points:

* Full benefits package * Work remotely * New hardware when you need it * Travel to SF once a year for our team on-site * Unlimited vacation

You can email your resume to me sam@breadwallet.com

They have been for a long time now. Apps are commonly written in Java, Javascript, scripting in lua, python, etc. The only thing they don't allow is executable pages of memory, which the Go previously required due to it's runtime.
