ssahoo··on New Apache Airflow Operators for Google Generative AI
What alternative do you recommend?
ssahoo··on New Apache Airflow Operators for Google Generative AI
So they added three brand new Airflow operators to interact with Vertex AI's generative models to their Cloud Composer
ssahoo··on Microsoft says Delta's ancient IT explains long outage after CrowdStrike snafu
Well, they dint buy their Azure windows VDI for help desk and flight status displays.
ssahoo··on How we found and fixed an eBPF Linux kernel vulnerability
Wouldn't even the classic loadable kernel mode driver be a better choice than a patch and eBpf? I know they are unsafe but people who deal with it, know the power comes with responsibility.
ssahoo··on Microsoft says Delta ignored Satya Nadella's offer of CrowdStrike help
It will be interesting is to know what specific help was offered while Delta was trying to clean up the mess. My guess is that MS were probably using it as PR-op or future up-sells. Delta didn't want to be in business with them in long term as their CEO praised apple publicly.
ssahoo··on Thunderstorms Have Caused $45B in Damages in the U.S. in Six Months
How does the losses compare year over year with inflation adjusted numbers? Where to find that data to see the pattern here.
ssahoo··on Nanode: The Minimalist Builds of Node.js
What is the use case for minimalistic build? The readme does not describe any.
ssahoo··on Show HN: Free e-book about WebGPU Programming
Great book, thanks for writing it.

Just a low hanging issue. The rendering on mobile viewport especially on Firefox is not ideal. Navigation is broke and content does not scroll well.

ssahoo··on About Google Chrome's "This extension may soon no longer be supported"
And Microsoft is becoming new google
ssahoo··on Microsoft Is Removing Ads from Skype
I think that's the reason they removed it. The cost of running ads on Skype > the ad revenue.
ssahoo··on Deno: What we got wrong about HTTP imports
IMO Package.json is beautiful. Become gold standard for package management. But it looks like deno seriously hates npm, and cooking up solutions like this. If npm had to be replaced they could do go like packagement with direct links to github. Which package.json already supports.
ssahoo··on Firefox Testing New Privacy Feature, Working with Meta
Privacy and Facebook are antonyms.
ssahoo··on Microsoft confirms Reddit blocked Bing Search
Why wouldn't Microsoft pay? Didn't their AI ceo say everything on internet is free?
ssahoo··on Mapbox reduces monthly support tickets by 20% with Kapa.ai
80% more frustrated users?
ssahoo··on Ask HN: Am I crazy or is Android development awful?
It's not that awful once you get hang of it, but it's a mess made by google. Kotlin which is maintained Jetbrain is catching up. Google is far less interested in owning kotlin. Therefore creating a confusion with mix of grovy, maven, java and xml as hell.
ssahoo··on Open source AI is the path forward
Just call it not open-source? May be. Freemium?
ssahoo··on Open source AI is the path forward
Additional Commercial Terms. If, on the Llama 3.1 version release date, the monthly active users of the products or services made available by or for Licensee, or Licensee’s affiliates, is greater than 700 million monthly active users in the preceding calendar month, you must request a license from Meta, which Meta may grant to you in its sole discretion, and you are not authorized to exercise any of the rights under this Agreement unless or until Meta otherwise expressly grants you such rights.

Which open-source has such restrictions and clause?

ssahoo··on What everyone seems to be missing in the CrowdStrike incident
My biggest concern is that how they missed to test the kernel code to run without a failover mechanism to last known configuration? It's common sense. Their QA never raised this concern for availability?
ssahoo··on Why Llama 3.1 is Important
Written by llama3 or chatgpt?
ssahoo··on The Linux audio stack demystified (and more)
Gpt is just emulating best writing quality. This article is very well written. If it was gpt generated, I'd be happy to read more like it.
ssahoo··on Reading a JSON Config in Zig
I am really baffled that zig tried to reinvent json with zon file format. The syntax is full of dots (zig struct like), very ugly. I think its a missed opportunity to woo people who are familiar with js land. Regardless support for json file should be first class in any modern language IMO.
ssahoo··on The Practical Linux Hardening Guide
You should consider including Debian as a distribution.
ssahoo··on New Recovery Tool to help with CrowdStrike issue impacting Windows endpoints
They recommend crowdstrike to customers. Now they are trying to at least skim some good will. Also bad a kernel module that can ruin the OS is partially their fault.
ssahoo··on New Recovery Tool to help with CrowdStrike issue impacting Windows endpoints
When their bottom line and head is at stake, what were they supposed to do?
ssahoo··on AT&T says criminals stole phone records of 'nearly all' customers in data breach
1. Absolute carelessness of customer data.

2. Nothing to no consequence to the executives.

3. Lawlessness of such events. Very poor consumer protection laws in this country.

4. Cybersecurity illiterate leadership making cybersecurity decisions.

5. Investing absolute little in Cybersecurity to meet bare-minimum standards.

6. Or all of the above?

ssahoo··on Ask HN: What's Your Opinion of iOS Development?
iOS development is still crappy mess. Hard coded to many xcode and ui based workflows for many casual stuff. But do we have a choice? It's a monopoly.
ssahoo··on How I scraped 6 years of Reddit posts in JSON
No you didn't. You just downloaded the torrent archive.
ssahoo··on Show HN: I created an After Effects alternative
Also never imagined "NO AI" to become a feature so soon.
ssahoo··on Misconceptions about loops in C
Why the fuck they still write papers in 2 columns? It's a pain both for humans and computers alike. Here is the link to PDF https://dl.acm.org/doi/pdf/10.1145/3652588.3663324
