spikefromspace··on India's Big Problem: Nurturing Entrepreneurs
Just my personal experience coming from an Indian family that mostly is involved in their own businesses that the sole purpose of having a business is to make a living or carry on the business from a previous generation. I see very little in terms of wanting to create new innovative businesses or collaborating with other entrepreneurs or encouraging young entrepreneurs that I see happen in the US. So, the article seems spot-on in that indian entrepreneurs seem to not want to take many risks.
spikefromspace··on Learning mobile: iOS or Android?
You could also try something like Xamarin's framework to do both.
spikefromspace··on Since when has Craigslist asked for money when posting a job listing?
yep, as far as i know always. That's the way they make money. Not for offering your freelance services though.

I have been seeing these types of articles quite a bit in the last 2 months. I personally think that it is a bad way to look at things. IT services companies like Infosys right now may be a huge part of the Indian IT industry and the overall export economy, but it shouldn't be that way.

High-tech companies (like Google, Apple) should have that place. If companies like Infosys are only relying on revenue from outsourced projects from the US and not actually spending money on their own research and development, then they should have disappointing financials. Nonetheless, I don't think it spells out the doomsday "golden era is over" like this article's headline.

spikefromspace··on Ask HN: Why no diagnostic tools for MACs?
Yes, that is what it seems like. Anybody who is familiar enough can find ways of testing with other x86 based tools, and everybody else just takes it to a Apple repair shop or replaces it.

I was unable to find a mainstream native app in the Mac App Store, so nobody seems to have attempted it either.

spikefromspace··on Ask HN: Why no diagnostic tools for MACs?
I guess I was a little unclear in my post. What I meant is that a lot of the diagnostic functionality available for PCs(memtest86 and Linux utils) can easily run on Intel Macs as well but given how relatively easy it would be, I don't see a native app that specifically advertises itself as a Mac hardware diagnostic tool unless I am missing something obvious.

So, it seems like there must be no demand for a native app, but I am just surprised that nobody has attempted it. I haven't spent a huge amount of looking but then again I was trying to find a mainstream app not something obscure.

spikefromspace··on Ask HN: Why no diagnostic tools for MACs?
Seems more like a software/OS diagnostic tool but I had never heard of it before, so thanks. Will read up on it.
spikefromspace··on Dual monitor "bolt on" laptop screen
It doesn't list the weight of the screen on there...
spikefromspace··on Ask HN: Anybody here do the Apple MFI Program?
I am considering Bluetooth Low Energy as an alternative; although, WiFi definitely won't work. Anyways, if it wasn't too bad, I may just give it a try and see how it goes.
spikefromspace··on Ask HN: Anybody here do the Apple MFI Program?
Thanks for the suggestion. I was also thinking there may be contract manufacturers who already have their MFi certification, but since Apple does not reveal the specs, it is hard to tell whether my idea is feasible or not or whether it uses the full potential of the platform.
spikefromspace··on Ask HN: Anybody here do the Apple MFI Program?
yep, exactly my concern. Well, maybe somebody on here has a more recent experience on share.
spikefromspace··on Google offering consumer surveys
@chaud Wow I don't know how I completely missed it until now. Good catch though
spikefromspace··on Question Startup
That depends on how well and deeply you understand the current business model in Europe. If you don't know it well, then you won't be able to copy it. Not to mention that there are several other variables such as whether the market translates into South America, income levels, culture, local business policies, taxes and so much more.
spikefromspace··on Google launching Nexus 7 Tablet
Slightly off-topic, but why is the Nexus Q streaming media player more expensive than the tablet?
