I’ve been using Xbox Game Pass on PC, and while for me it’s a good value. Their invite system is terrible compared to Valve. I just want to play games with my friends and Valve seems to have that part down. Hell even the whole “play with friends” thing has worked great. Like the good old days of friends coming over and playing a four player game only now we play on the internet (and we only need one person to own it).
Yeah I think the main takeaway for me is that the work they are doing for Linux isn’t being kept only to themselves. Betting on Linux is giving people options. I would love to drop windows all together, and they are making this more of a reality (because the only key thing keeping me on windows is gaming, I can get all my other regular computing just fine on Linux).
Agreed. I’m sort of relieved after watching videos that there isn’t a big reason to drop more for some more storage and a matte screen (and better case). And I find it promising is that the micro SD slot loads nearly as fast as the SSD. My use case is to take with me on travel and really to not have to sit in front of the computer to play games. So I’ll load some games on it but likely stream heavier games from my PC.
I grabbed Destiny 2 and some expansions a while back on a humble bundle. I had a blast, it was fun and could play with friends. Then end game seemed to not have much going for it. And it was confusing on what you could and couldn’t access. Came back to it after a break and with more expansions out it just seemed even more confusing on what I could and couldn’t access. It’s sort of the WOW problem, the game is just overwhelming. There is so much content and no clear way on what you can or can’t access. The various currencies alone are confusing.
Best trash pizza out there. We don’t have many places by me but we have one great Italian place. Guy running the shop makes a mean pie but not the best customer service and this pandemic has not eased things for him. But once again the pizza is amazing so I have no problem ordering early and still waiting at least an hour.
It’s funny how people use that 2% to reinforce their opinion that COVID isn’t a big deal. But we have a virus that is very communicable just racking up deaths. I feel like we are approaching the point of everyone either being vaccinated or having had COVID.
The article reads like we knew all along that natural immunity worked better than vaccines. We didn’t, we have data now that provides strong evidence to the protection by having natural immunity. I know it’s really trying to hard to tap into that anger that pushes clicks.
Sort of off topic but I have an X220 but I’m having issues getting the trackpad to work. Seems to only recognize the track point. Anyone else have similar issues?
I tend to think the problem is just inherent to business. When business is booming nobody thinks are we going to keep this up? Are there factors that may cause this growth to slow? Generally they just make higher sales targets for next year. I tend to believe the market is just saturated now with exercise equipment. Plus you have a large number of people who didn’t get to keep working from home so unlikely to invest in a expensive piece of equipment. Peloton snagged a large group of management and exec level people at my agency, and they all love to talk about it. Which on the one side is great because they are all working out and trying to stay healthy. But on the other side people who aren’t on the Peloton train don’t give a damn about it and are sick of it coming up at nearly all meetings.
And the alternative is that you sign up for a Meta account so your info will just be shared anyway. It was a while ago they made that announcement and it hasn’t happened. I was going to get the Quest 2 but I came to the realization I don’t want to support that company so went with the Valve Index. Sure it doesn’t have wireless but I’m not going to take it anywhere anyway.
I bought an Index recently and love it. Lots of fun games and to be honest a lot of hours logged are in the free valve demos and the Steam VR environments (quests which award items for your avatar). That being said I have zero desire to do work in VR. I don’t experience motion sickness (except momentarily in Pistol Whip), but I can’t imagine VR doing anything but hindering my ability to focus. I personally have moved to just one screen and although there is a lot of cool customization that exists in the VR space I don’t need a bunch of other screens bringing distractions.
I found that to be an interesting read. They tried to argue that it was infringing on copyrights because it changed code, which it does not. But the court further went on to say if they ruled against adblocking it would encroach on peoples rights when viewing sites (like choices to reduce bandwidth use, etc).
Definitely sick in droves. I have three people I work with that are all out sick today with COVID. We all work remote but their families they live with are all sick. Omnicron is spreading like wildfire.
Yeah I just read the article and it’s very clear they were out of touch and a pretty terrible person. Then they transition and are shocked about being passed on when they would have done the same thing before they transitioned. I don’t feel like there is much self awareness even coming through for them after their experiences. I guess the article succeeded in getting a reaction out of me, person who contributed to toxic culture shocked to experience it first hand.
I would have loved game pass when I was younger for the sheer number of games. Now personally it offers me the ability to try things out and not regret dropping money on those games. I don’t play nearly as many games as I used to, but paying $15 and playing Back 4 Blood with friends was great. And I didn’t care when we all got our fill of it because I got my moneys worth. Personally it’s a great alternative to pirating.
On one hand I’m happy people are wising up about how they shouldn’t take all this crap from workplaces and bad managers. You deserve to be respected and compensated for your work and not abused. All of that is great. I just hope it spurs movement to better us all not just bitching and being shitty just because screw work.
A minivan is practical especially with 2 or more kids. In my area vast majority of people have SUVs and pickups and it’s normally one person in it. People have to have that GMC Denali or other equivalent giant vehicle to show off I guess. It’s those big SUVs and pickups that make no sense, people lean towards the “why not?” Instead of “why?”.
As was mentioned in the public sector I feel like it was the norm. People liked having their every other Friday off (or other day they chose). When we were always in the office I chose to come in because fridays were quiet and I could work uninterrupted. Now almost all of my employees work a flexible schedule. They send me their schedule prior to the pay period starting. They have the ability to flex and violate the “core hours” one every two weeks (working less than 6 hours and can be outside the 10-2pm period). So for instance my one employee works about 2-4 hours every other Friday and has the other one off, just picks up the slack on some other day. And if they want to adjust their schedule more they just need supervisor approval (haven’t had a time yet where I had to deny a request). I personally stick to a mostly 8-4:30p schedule but if I have a big project coming up I shorten a day and put in extra time another day.
X220 checking in. All I’ve done is a new battery, SSD and upgraded to 16gb ram. My son plays Minecraft and Roblox on it all the time and works great. Keep considering upgrading it but it works great for what’s it’s being used for.
Not that interesting g, all the companies make their marketing claims but they have caveats. Sure this intel may be more powerful but it also uses a lot more power.
I’ve only worked in the public sector and have only had to PIP people a few times. It’s almost always a sign that you need to get out. I’ve only done it when I’m at wits end with a person. They all ended up quitting before we got to the 90 days but yeah as said it’s basically a CYA move. Likely the people are low performing enough by some measure you can fire them but it’s sort of a last chance thing. And it documents where they need to improve and what they need to do, so all that is good for the employee if they want to improve (and I do believe nobody wants to do a bad job).
Not surprising to me as I was only seriously considering seeing Shang Chi, the Eternals and Spider Man in theaters. And only because they would be great on the big screen. It’s not worth the potential risk of COVID, but really chilling on the couch with whatever drink and food I want and snuggling with the kids can’t be beat. I may go into the theater for some type of experience again (last movie I saw was Avengers Endgame and it was worth it). I guess the pandemic just helped put the nail in the coffin for my movie going experience.
Thanks for the insight. To be honest I have almost never fully folded down the middle seats, since you have to move the front seats up, move the floor mats and then fold them in.
Do you like the vehicle? We have a Town and Country and while I’m not a fan of the minivan life it’s just so damn practical with kids. The Pacifica seems more car like than our Town and Country (seems like it sits lower, maybe handles better). Looking into options, we use the Model 3 almost all the time but sometimes you need the extra luggage space or just ability to sit a little further away (separate the kids).
People in my county have given up with masks. We are maybe 60% vaccinated but I feel there is a false sense of security because of the low population density. It’s so easy to wear a mask and give yourself protection, but you also have the added problem that people don’t seem to understand how to fit a mask properly either.
