spacebacon··on Fine-tuning an LLM to write docs like it's 1995
Now do it without the fine tuning.

No fine tuning required. You can use the SRT adapter.

spacebacon··on Anthropic's open-source framework for AI-powered vulnerability discovery
This one is and should be adapted to every frozen model ASAP.

Significantly improve every frozen model overnight. LFG.

spacebacon··on Words do not have determined meanings
Fair enough. Loose analogy straight from my own neuralese. Corrected.
spacebacon··on Words do not have determined meanings
Just an analogy that emphasizes reflexivity. Words and light in this case. Maybe a stretch?
spacebacon··on Failing grades soar with AI usage, dwindling math skills in Berkeley CS classes
It’s a really lossy process. Mostly due to most humans and all models treating sign meetings as determined at the moment of softmax crystallization. Signs (words included) are no more determined than the speed of light is. It’s all reflexive and we should stop lying to ourselves it can be determined.
spacebacon··on Artificial intelligence is not conscious – Ted Chiang
Both LLMs and most humans treat symbols as determined. Symbols are maps, not territory. LLMs just inherit our ignorance to this and stubborn attempts make circle from a square.
spacebacon··on A Post-Quantum Future for Let's Encrypt
I agree.. Consider Math symbols and physical constants themselves are signs in a humans (or machines) interpretive system. They aren’t the actual thing, and treating them as precise blinds us to alternative interpretations. Conventional wisdom about Grover’s algorithm might be blinding cryptographers. I highly recommend semiotics as a lens peaking through this veil.
spacebacon··on They’re made out of weights
They are semiotic infrastructure frozen in a state. We shouldn't keep pretending this is cognitive and using cognitive terms to frame. It’s incredibly stupid. Sorry to inform all of us computer scientist that semiotics has your milk.
spacebacon··on Domain expertise has always been the real moat
Sure it does, it’s just a highly contested meaning that depends on a proper contemporary interpretation if to be received as intended in this context. Context that varies domain to domain. For the domain name buyer it’s quite different than the metacognitive scholar.
spacebacon··on Anthropic surpasses OpenAI to become most valuable AI startup
Yeah about that

Basket weaving is more human than conversation. Language is entry level artificial man.
spacebacon··on Reddit Starts Blocking Mobile Website, Pushing Users to App Instead
The mods are terrible too. Getting anything to stick on reddit involves translating it precisely to that individual communities language. We all use the same vocabularies to speak incomprehensible languages at each other. If you cant speak the language of a community or directly challenge it you will get nowhere. What a shitty little cave it is.

spacebacon··on Hallucinations Undermine Trust; Metacognition Is a Way Forward
It does need to be and doing so is possible at 0 cost to CE. The SRT does just that. It actually improves the CE.
