I actually use there app version everyday. And my grandpa of 91 used to use it everyday before his Alzheimer's got the best of him.
https://www.mollie.com/en does this for example. (Disclaimer I worked in the same office as the dutch payments provider Qantani. They sold all their users to Mollie.)
I know of some dutch companies that check all the prices and based on the payments option the customer wants they sent the user to a different payments provider to save money on processing fees. I'm not very familiar with Stripe, I have only set it up on a wordpress website once. but if they do not allow you to do cheap recurring payments then just implement a second provider and switch between them.
On all dutch state exams they simply checked this light on my calculator. But a friend of mine showed me already that there exsics special firmware that can fake this light so yhea 100% security will never exist.
The last thing is that I save every paper that i see mentioned as a pdf file in a seperate folder on my PC. I use a combination of rip grep all + recoll to search them.

Differential privacy provides some simple mathematical foundations to share any database data what so every without revealing the data about anyone specific. An example could be when you store someones name, birthday and illness. Differential privacy in a simplified way says,a name is a direct link to a person so remove it. A birthday could potentially be used to link to a user but not directly so replace it with a range so age between 20-30 for example, instead of the specific birthday. The illness is the data someone else wants so that stays. Now someone else can get information from your database without getting to any specific user or person. (there are a lot of other things that can be done such as adding random numbers to the result when you for example ask for am average age)
Where this whole thing starts to break down is when this is applied to real situations. Sure everything mathematically shows that you can not get to a specific user. But when you do already have a large amount of data or there are multiple of these databases you can quite easily combine them to find specific users or people back in the data. And these type of attacks are already happening, with people adding large data breaches together to find username, email and password combinations for example. This way they can for example find out if you have a pattern in you passwords such as a base password + a specific thing extra at the end.
When the news broke out that FB would start removing these kind of images from there platform both sides of the discussion mostly reacted here in the Netherlands that removing it completely is not the way to go. So i'm wondering how this news is received everywhere else in the world? Here is was the headline of most newspapers and our national television news yesterday.
Back in the days you only had IT, This slowly changed to ICT (Information Communication Technology) This branched of in 3 separate things ICT/IT, NSE (Network security engineering) and (SE) Software engineering. IT people where needed less and less because we prefer throwing things away instead of fixing it. So after a while they came up with the idea to still keep IT people around but to use them for other things when they are not busy. And they called it DevOps.
This app seams to use Shamir's Secret Sharing, this is something where I am not familiar with, but from how far I understand the Wikipedia article about it. it works roughly the same but it is more general.
I'm interested to see if people will actually use this. If anyone has some additional explanations about the differences between these algorithms then that would be very appreciated.
But regarding your point is it still used at a job. Well I at least have never seen it mentioned on a job position. But some companies also specifically remove this from there job openings to not scare people.
When I need something for a hobby project I most of the time get it for free from family or take the part from a broken item. The only exception is for games. In the past I bought nearly all gameboy games and ds games second hand from a local shop.
So I would advice to just start making a API with a tool you are familiar with or learn a new one if you have enough time and just start experimenting.
So yes there is some truth in your message. Yes it is more difficult to start something but it is not impossible. I still have many connections with people who have very small website and are still earning there living from it from websites like torrentfreak to small local dutch news papers. The way they earn money has just changed.
The advice I got out of the past years is do something you enjoy. As long as you enjoy it the money and the project/website ideas will come to you.
